I received a quote from the dealership on the following deal. Outback Limited - no sunroof - tech package 2. I wanted to check if it is a good deal. California - tax rate is 7.75%. By my calcs I think they forgot to take into account the Cash Down in the equation so it seems about $25/month too high... but I'm just learning and might have missed something.

$595 is the acquisition fee
$123.75 is likely the $85 doc fee + upfront tax on the CAP reduction.

The payment calculation is correct, with that adjusted CAP.

I'm about $40 off on calculating the adjusted CAP. I'm sure they have an explanation for it, if you posted the docs. Even so, that's just over $1/mo. difference.

The adjusted CAP cost, is after all additions and subtractions are completed.

I added up your sale price, plus all of the items listed (including first payment), then subtracted your upfront money. That number was just $40 off of their adjusted CAP. The difference could be upfront tax on CAP reduction, that isn't reflected anywhere else.

Taxes in CA are applied to the monthly payment. The total tax line on the document is just informational, not part of the calculation of other amounts.

MSRP: $35,388
Selling Price: $31,609
Rebates = $500 Holiday Rebate + $290 Subaru Loyalty
Monthly Payment: $290 w/o tax

This deal also included $1500 a cap cost reduction, but it was not cash out of my pocket. The dealership bought out my previous lease for $23,000 and the payoff was $21,500. I took the car to 5 dealerships and all were offering around $21,500, I think this dealer just needed/wanted the sale and overpaid for the 2017 Outback.

Thank you for the info! A more general question - has Subaru's historically strong resale value started to take a dip in recent years? I ask because I'm looking back at my 2017 paperwork and basicaly the same vehicle in January of 2017 had an RV of .63. That change alone is going to make my monthly quite a bit worse. Are there any comparable vehicles that lease much better due to high RVs that I would be foolish to not consider?
