I have three authentic offers to share. We did not buy any of these, one because the dealership didn't have a color on the lot the family could agree on and one because it had a funky air freshener smell that caused allergic reaction in a family member who has chemical sensitivities. This 'sick' car was an executive car with 3400 miles on it. And the third offer isn't confirmed as to being including taxes and fees, even though I asked them for an offer including taxes and fees.

Boston suburbs, dealerships along 128 and 495.

Honda Pilot Elite 36/15 $498/mo including sales tax, $3000 drive away incl taxes and fees, in person offer from sales manager as we walked out the door for not getting our numbers we wanted. This was an executive car, and we thought they were ripping us off for not coming down to our requested $425/mo and $3000 drive away given it had 3400 miles, but we loved the car and agreed to $498. Until it made us sick on second/final test drive, which was over half an hour.

Honda Pilot EX-L 36/15 $385/mo including sales tax, $3000 drive away incl taxes and fees, in person offer from deal-maker dude. Like pulling teeth, keep saying no until they would meet me at 385/3000.

Honda Pilot EX-L 36/15 $380/mo, $3000 down, received via email. Requested numbers including taxes and fees, but not confirmed in person.

I have to say, it's a real challenge in patience getting them to come down and sell the car at the price a majority of cars sell at according to TrueCar. So lots of buyers are hard bargainers. And that their bottom line offer, isn't. The sales manager will rush up to you as you walk towards the door because your price demand wasn't met.

When I presented counter numbers to their first offer (which is always ludicrously high), both times the associate asked "why do you think you can get the car for that?" Does anyone know what the correct answer is to get the deal? I simply said "I know that you can sell it to me for that and still have some positive margin."

We're taking a breather because we feel bad that we wasted the time of two different associates who don't get paid if they don't sell a car, need to more thoroughly test drive early in the process and not even negotiate price until we're completely certain that we want to take home this literal car, to save them the time, and save our own time. And learned that we need to drive the car at least half an hour to make sure it's the right vehicle.

Luckily, thanks to COVID, nearly all dealers don't want to come in the car with you--we despise that they ever do, it's an invasion of privacy.

We closed a deal today using a broker I found on a car leasing forum and it seems to have saved me a ton of money. We are in Southern California but here's what we go

$340/mo + tax which comes out to $365/month for us (7.75% vehicle sales tax).

Since it is true $0 due at signing we are only making 35 payments of $340/mo + tax. We qualified for $1000 loyalty cash since we already had a Honda lease active.

It is a Honda to dealer incentive, hopefully reflected in a lower selling price.
