    I bought my 2008 Acadia SLT2 fully loaded in September 2008. I returned to the dealership 2 hours later due to noises coming from the steering wheel; some kind of gear needed to be replaced. Over the next 4 months, this vehicle was returned to the dealership on 8 occasions for repair issues ranging from leaking moonroof and sky light to premature break wear. The leaking problem persisted for another 2 months until finally they detected the problem and replaced the entire headliner and carpet. Since then the brake issues have continued and I attempted to get GM to buy back this lemon and after 4 months of giving me the run around they finally responded by saying that the problems are fixed and they will not buy the vehicle back. I really can't blame them for refusing to stand behind this vehicle since they are obviously aware of the poor quality of their products and they obviously do not want to deal with the headache of trying to resell this piece of crap. It's unfortunate because I like the style and love the features but hate the horrible transmission, poor brakes, and gas thirsty engine not to mention the other problems already stated by others. I tried to support to the american auto industry but I am going back to supporting Germany and/or Japan.

    GM certainly doesnt back their product. I went round with GM when I was losing power steering during rain. They offered me a $1500 rebate on any other car. GREAT $1500 on a over $40000 vehicle...lots of help huh. Now that I am out of warranty the radio is shorting out and the engine bogs down. My 2007 is a piece of junk. Everyone that asks me about the Acadia, I tell then without a doubt DO NOT BUY ONE. This has been my worst experience ever, I only pray that this vehicle keeps me and my girls safe because I surely can not afford to get out of it.

    Sorry if I'm repeating myself, but I answer a lot of people on this forum. Did you try contacting a lemon lawyer in your state? Laws vary from state-to-state but you might have a case if you've taken the car in for service within the first year and still have your service receipts. If it takes them more then three times to repair the same problem, you might have a case. It doesn't help you in the short term, but over the long term it might.

    My husband and I went out looking at new cars today and I saw an '09 Acadia on one of the dealership lots. It was listed as a certified pre-owned vehicle and was listed for $46,000. I sure that thing has plenty of problems. I got the chills even going near it! No GMC for this family! I do the same thing with people that ask me about how I like the Acadia. When I tell people the experiences I've had, they are shocked. People still think American cars are great. The worst part is admitting there's a problem--they won't own up to anything!

    We have a 38 mo lease on our 2008 Acadia SLT-1, which is up in Nov. and have had nothing but odd problems...From the tailgate not latching, sunroof leaking, the car not turning off when key is turned off (and taken out) to the car not starting and the key being stuck in it and locking the doors, we have had a multitude of issue that the dealer keeps saying "This is something we have not seen before". Yesterday my windshield wipers stopped working and this morning I drove the car, in the pouring rain, to the dealership where I was then told the transmission line to the wiper motor was frozen and they could not fix. They brought my vehicle around and told me the part was on back order and they did not know how long it would take to get the part, but I could take the vehicle, although they had removed the wipers all together. This was another case of being told that "this was not something they had seen before". I am now driving a vehicle with NO wipers at all, they do not know if it will be a week or longer for the part to come in and I just want to turn the car in...Although the service people at the Bill Dodge Dealership have been good to deal with, I have had enough of crazy service issues and want to get out of our lease...this is our 6th lease and this is the only one where I love the car, but hate the service issues...

    Let me first say that I love my Acadia, but I am getting tired of issues with it. First, I had a huge water leak due to the sunroof BEFORE the recall. It was in the shop for about 6 weeks because they had to replace some of the carpet and it was on backorder. I was clearly not happy about that.

    Then the steering started whining. I still don't know what is the problem with it. It whines even when I'm sitting still. Lovely.

    Now, the engine is overheating. . .the day before we go on a trip to the lake. I got the oil changed and 1 hour later, the air shuts off and the engine overheats. I admit that it may have something to do with the oil change, but honestly, this is getting old!!! Has anyone had problems with overheating or steering? Thanks!!

    P.S. Did I mention that I am sure none of this is under warranty as I have 75,000 miles on it?

    I also have a tail light out. It works when you apply the brakes, but no other time. Took it to the mechanic to get the bulb replaced and was told that the whole assembly (fixture, whatever) was faulty and it would be $250 to replace it. Really?

    I had a headlight out.....100+ dollars for the labor and the bulb. I loved the Acadia but it was having to many problems. First sunroof(5times) then the power streering pump. When they fixed the pump they messed up my rack and pinion. So i had to wait on that part. They had my car for a wk.

    Well driving ok for awhile when the lift gate went out. They told me it was the motor (800.00). That took the cake for me. I traded that thing in for a toyota avalon.
  • I just picked up a 2010 Acadia SLT-1 last week (which I love so far) but I definitely didn't do enough homework about extended warranties and protection plans. After reading some threads here, I feel like I was duped by the dealership finance manager into buying some plans I may not need at all, or at least not yet. For starters, he made no indication that the GMPP was an extended warranty, and instead that it was coverage i needed right now. I believe I have 60 days to cancel the GMPP, but I'm not sure about the other stuff. Hoping someone here can help me figure this all out and provide some options. Here are the extras that I paid for:

    GMPP Major Guard 6yr/72K with $0 deductible: $1880
    SmartCare (prepaid oil changes, lubes and tire rotations) 3yr/36K: $595
    Tire & Wheel Protection: 5 yrs (my wife has damaged a few tires on curbs with our other car) : $689

    in looking at the GM standard limited warranty, i see that i've got 3yr/36K bumber-to-bumper including tires, which makes me question the need for the Tire & Wheel Protection, at least for the first 3 years of ownership. and regarding the oil changes and tire rotations, i'd rather have that performed by someone closer to my house (the dealership is 40 minutes away). i'm pretty sure i can get out of all of these plans and wait until just before 12K miles to purchase a cheaper (online...not through my dealer) GMPP. all of these plans combined to hike my monthly payment $50/month. very annoying.

    I have had my Acadia since February 2007. The first week I had it the windshield wipers stopped working. That was the beginning of my nightmare. The car soon after began to leak from the dome lights in the third row in addition to through the sunroof. My interior of my vehicle was wet. I went to the dealership on several occasion before they finally got that resolved. I have taken it in for several other issues, so many that I cant remember all of them at this time. My most recent problem began on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. My vehicle would not change gears and was jerking. I had to call road side assistance to have the vehicle towed to the dealership. I made a call to GMC customer service because I was informed by the dealer that they would not be able to provide me with a rental because they did not do a diagnostic test. They also informed me at that time that they would not likely get to my vehicle until the following week or the week after but they could not give me a rental or loaner until they did the diagnostic. Talk about inconvenience Here we are the 4th of July weekend. I have a family vacation planned and dont have a car to drive. GMC customer service informed me that I could rent a vehicle through Enterprise but I would only be given $38 a day. I didn't even have to check to know that the only thing I could get with $38 is an economy car. I have a large family which is the reason I purchased the Acadia to begin with. In any event I have made numerous calls to GMC customer service and have left messages which have not been returned. The dealer still has not informed me if they have completed the diagnostic test and 1 week and 2 days later I still have no car, rental or loaner. I have had it with GMC. I love my Acadia and all the features but the problems are too much to bare.

    Definitely cancel the GMPP; I bought it recently for my 2008 Acadia SLT2 but only after the manufacturer warranty had reached its end (I have over 36k miles). The basic warranty covered all of the issues that I had from leaking moon roofs, to steering wheel issues to defective brake rotors. So you will be fine with the basic warranty until it reaches its end, I would also get rid of the Smart Care plan; it sounds like a deal but if you were to price oil changes and tire rotations at service companies in your area, you will probably find that the cost will amount to less than what you paid for the smart care plan over a 3 year period. As for the tire and wheel protection, I would cancel that too if your basic plan already includes such protection for the first 3 years. Keep in mind that sales people receive nice incentives for selling unnecessary services to their clients. Enjoy your 2010 Acadia; they have worked out a lot of the kinks since I purchased mine in '08. You have a much better engine and transmission than I do so at least acceleration will not be a problem for you.

    Ugh, doesn't sound good. I think we all purchased these cars because we liked the look of them and needed the room. And all we have is problems. Mariah should be contacting you any minute (she's GMC customer service). Hopefully she can get you some help. She monitors this forum. If you can't get help through her, my suggestion would be an attorney (for lemon law qualification--hopefully you kept those service receipts) or sell it (once its repaired) and buy foreign. That's what I plan on doing. Don't want any part of an American made car, especially GMC who won't admit the problems we all have! Good luck!
  • thanks for the advice, ktrie. i was considering doing everything you suggested and was hoping for that sort of confirmation. these guys can be such shucksters. the finance guy even "coincidentally" had a bent rim in his office to show me what could happen and that the t&w protection was essential. it scared the crap out of me as my wife has a penchant for running over curbs (at very, very low speeds, mind you). as for the GMPP, i've heard you can find great deals online from dealers all over, so i'll probably go that route once i'm ready. when i went in to by this car, i had everything figured out, armed with all kinds of negotiating power, but i was totally unprepared for the warranty plan ambush. lesson learned i guess. i can picture the finance guy high-5-ing himself all the way home after he sold me them. anyway, thanks again for your input. incredibly helpful.

    Considering buying a 2007 GMC Acadia SLT which is fully loaded. Was sold on the car and the price, but became nervous by these performance related updates on the transmission etc, Have the problems on the older models been fixed? How bad is it? Looking for clarity what is happening with so many people posting problems. The car has 33K miles on it and getting it for 29K. Any feedback or dialogue would be appreciated. Thanks.
  • Run and don't look back. Check out the foreign vehicles. My 2008 Acadia came from the factory with no sealings on the assembly whatsoever on the entire moonroof/sunroof combo. Do you have any idea how disheartening it can be to see rain water coming out of your DVD player let alone all the other places it was leaking :( :sick: ? I thought I had purchased my dream car and what a disappointment and dealing with GM customer service sealed the fate. GM needs to hire a couple of foreign engineers to work the kinks out, probably need to get some motivated, better class of people working on the assembly lines, and tweek the interior to give it a little more pop, then maybe this car would have a future! :lemon:
  • Unfortunately my first experience with buying an American car has been horrible. I bought my new 2008 Acadia because I loved the features, roominess and styling. When buying a new car you have reasonable expectations that most everything will work properly. In the last two years my car has been in for:

    1. Rear lift gate motor stopped working.

    2. Check engine light comes on and then within a few hours goes off, so I haven't been able to get it to the dealer to get anything diagnosed.

    3. Water pouring in through the back dome light and front windsheild-yes I have the moonroof problem everyone else has mentioned. Had it fixed once-removed headliner and all which was upsetting on a new car. Guess what... now the water has found a new path to come through, which means I have water stains on my roof around the sunroof and water dripping through the side airbag on the drivers side. Not to mention a smelly car from wet carpets.

    4. DVD/system not working. Get error message when I put the DVD in and then I can't get it back out. It depends on the day whether the DVD system will work or not.

    5. Also the Nav system is a piece of garbage. Just yesterday trying to use the navigation system in a major city and it won't display any Points of Interest. Now, I'm sure there are banks, restaurants and shopping in a major city. But not according the the Acadia Nav. system.

    6. Anytime I turn left I get a grinding noise from the DVD system.

    7. Oh did I mention that the passenger seat is stuck in the reclined position, which means my family can't even sit in it because its not safe.

    Need I go on? My local dealer has been great about servicing most of these issues for me. But when the seat finally broke, so did I. Even my dealer agreed that this car has seen more time in the shop that in my driveway.

    I have put a call into GM customer service and they have referred this to a district specialist, which I doubt if I will hear from. In good conscience I can't sell this "lemon" to anyone because I know all the problems it has, even if GM tried to fix them all, I have little faith that this car will last another year without another major problem. So I feel stuck and frustrated with an expensive car that certainly doesn't live up to what I was sold.

    I have told GM that I will be contacting my attorney regarding how to handle this situation. In the meantime I won't waste time waiting by my phone for GM to call, because from the sounds of it, they are not standing behind what they sell.

    If I receive a different response from GM, I will be sure to let everyone know

    I agree with the others. . .run DO NOT buy it. . . I bought an 07 Saturn Outlook (the same car just sold under Saturn). It was also my first American car and I was proud to do it. It was very disheartening when it started to leak whenever it rained right on my feet! then the electrical started going haywire and finally I started to lose power steering while driving in the rain. Not to mention the other stuff, the interior looks great but after a while (and after now buying a Honda Pilot) you realize how cheap it is AND lets not get into the acceleration of the vehicle on the highway. . . can you say dangerous? thank goodness we invested in a honda pilot because now we bought a boat and it can actually tow it!!! the Outlook NEVER would have been able to tow it (even though we purchased the tow package - the acceleration was so bad there was no way we could get up to speed on the highway). We returned it to GM and got our money back but only after almost a year of haggling with GM and alot of broken promises. They do NOT back their product . . I am sure there are some very good people that work at GM but there are alot of people that could really give a hoot about the lemons they are selling. Just read this sight .. . . what do you think?

    i have just over 35k miles on 08 acadia and took to dealership few days ago b/c
    heard knocking in the engine. i knew it was probably serious and it was. they
    called next day and said the oil filter came apart and pieces of it were sucked
    into the engine ruining the engine. they said it was not covered under warranty
    b/c it was not their oil filter. i had taken vehicle to a local quik oil change
    place and they put on a filter not ac delco. this filter meets or exceeds all OEM specs. i said tell me where in the warranty it says the dealer has to do the oil change or must use ac delco parts, but it doesn't. they tell me there is a service bulletin from GM that explains exactly what happened to my engine. i said then why not tell the consumers??!! how can people avoid this if they don't know about it? i got nowhere with the dealership so i called GM ph# in warranty book and after an hour on the phone they came to the same conclusion but could not answer my questions as to how is anyone suppose to know this and how can you essentially require oil changes at the dealership. i really appreciate GM running from the problem and leaving me to try and pursue the filter manufacturer or the local oil change place. those i've talked to say GM doesn't have a leg to stand on, but they won't do anything unless i file suit against them. i just want my vehicle repaired and certainly don't want to tt an atty. REALLY NICE GM. I'M A LOYAL OWNER OF 2 GM VEHICLES AND THIS IS WHAT YOU DO???? PATHETIC SERVICE. so much for a gov't bailout. i'd sooner by a foreign vehicle than another GM product and i always support american!

    I agree with lemonowner08; run and don't look back. Aside from the countless issues with the '07 and '08 models, you run the risk of facing over priced, non-warranty, common service issues. Just yesterday, I brought my '08 SLT2 into the dealer to have a daytime running light (DRL) replaced. While I was there I figured, why not have both DRLs replaced. Well the price of the lights was just over $6 each; not a big deal but the labor to replace them cost $240!!!!! That's right, I paid $252 to have 2 DRLs replaced on my '08 Acadia. Apparently the idiots at GM put the DRLs in a place where they can only be accessed by removing the entire front bumper. So the labor was more than 20x the cost of the part. Be aware that I have HID headlights so my DRLs are located in a lower position that those of you with regular headlights but I believe the bumper would still have to be removed to replace them.
    For those of you who are thinking about getting rid of your early model Acadia, here is my suggestion; Stop contemplating and JUST DO IT. The pains of ownership far outweigh the reward(s).

    Tobster1, I want to congratulate you on getting your money back. I tried for nearly a year as well after my Acadia spent 8 out of the f\its 12 weeks of ownership, in the shop. GM customer service gave me therun around for months until finally the district manager, who I never spoke to, proclaimed that my vehicle's problems were fixed and GM would not buy it back. Hey if anyone wants to start a class action suit, count me in.

    A couple of weeks ago our AC stopped working and after some diagnostic work it was determined to be a problem with the evaporator core. The part is not too expensive but we were quoted 12 hours of labor because the whole dash needed to be removed to access the part. I brought the car in on a Tuesday morning and expected to get it back Wednesday evening. When I called on Wednesday to ask if the car would be ready, the GMC service technician laughed at me. He said they were working on it but that my car was in parts all over the floor. Thursday, Friday and Saturday calls were all the same. On Monday they reported that the car was back together but the airbag light was on so they had more work to do. Tuesday I got my car back but the CD player is now broken and a few of the buttons on the dash no longer work. Fortunately we ONLY had to pay the $1800 that we were quoted but I don't have a lot of confidence in the way the car was put back together. This all happened after we had an issue with the power steering cutting off when we would go through puddles at low speed. Scary problem - remedied after three trips to the dealership for new tire flaps and a new belt. At least that was fixed under warranty.
  • I am not an attorney, but I have contacted one about what a class action lawsuit entails. I truly think that GM should be held accountable for an expensive car full of problems and then leaving all the Acadia/Saturn customers hanging with a car that can't be sold.

  • I bought my 2007 Acadia SLT AWD in Feb 2007 with 49 miles on it. April 2010 it all started going downhill. My car has been in and out of the dealership for le last 3 months. The 1st time I was driving from a stop light, gassed it to go and the RPMs flew up to 6K and the car would not move. had it towed to the dealership, they had it for 1 week, told me it was the speed control sensor and it had to be replaced. Had the car out for about 1 week and it did the exact same thing. Took it back to the dealership and this time it was a bad silenoid. The had the car for about 2 more weeks. Then about 3 weeks later AGAIN the same thing. My car has been at the dealership since June 19th. I was told that there were some repairs inside the transmission that had to be fixed. basicall thye have re-built my trnasmission!! I called this morning and I have just been told that they finished the car on Thursday, took the car out for a long test drive and now the car won't go into reverse. They say it's probably a computer issue. At this point I don't feel safe in the car no matter how much they repair. I have 2 young kids and I spend a lot of time on the road. I don't have money to hire an attorney but I want to get rid of the car!! Any suggestions??
  • I have had all these issues mentioned plus...The dealer refused to actually continue servicing the car. I quote "we have done everything to fix your car and there is nothing else to repair. We are finished servicing you.". It gets better.. I can't take the car back because the keys are locked in the ignition because the the car is dead for the 5 th time and..i get a call from gmac "your car is now past your lease please return it.." I say well would love to but it doesn't run and your dealer Schwabs in Leduc Alberta says they are done with us..so what would you like me to do? I am not paying for another tow. His reply..use the on star...ahh did you hear that the car doesn't start and no power? It gets better..they come and tow the car, and i get a bill for towing + unusual wear + car not running...OMFG...the dealer and GMAC say nothing is wrong but i am being billed for stuff that is wrong? We wonder why we bailed this company out? Literally every single issue with my car has been mentioned in the last 41 pages plus..(this one is priceless) one of the timing chains gears had broken causing multiple issues. So they change the timing chain, and gears and a few seals but when i read through the report no new oil was put into the car. I bring this too their attention and they say "we test the oil and if it appears good we put it back in" I am not kidding...So you have a broken mechanical part inside a motor and the one and only lubricant that holds all the dirt and crap in solution to hopefully be picked up by the filter is not replaced? What test? I hope NASCAR knows about this test.. How about BP. Maybe they could use this to help reclaim some of the oil they are missing. I bought one of the first Acadia out because it appeared a great car. I even paid off my lease 4 months early and parked the car..I am now driving a 1973 volvo and loving life..and by the way.. I have since sold everyone of my GMC fleet trucks off. All 10 of them..I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN A GM VEHICLE EVERY AGAIN.. EVEN A GM TAXI.. :lemon: if they plan to try to get the $3500 they want from me they will be dealing lawyers.
  • get rid of the car fast..Tire protection is crap and they will blame you and your driving habits on wear. It only will protect you on defects. Mine was leaking from the first month and it was my fault because i guess i ran it into a curb or pot hole.. For the love of God, take your car back before it's too late.

    AC just went out today; 90+ degrees outside and of course I was out of town and had to drive 4 hours to get home. Called the dealership from the road and I am taking it in again tomorrow morning. Got to love the Acadia. I'm on-line searching for a replacement right now. Unfortunately, I can't get any value for this hunk of junk.

    I am planning on going out to check Acadia/Enclave/Traverse tomorrow ... but changed my mind, thanks to you guys! Sorry you had to go through so many problems with almost a brand new car!!!!
    I just returned my leased Lexus and on the look out for a decent SUV with third row and GM is out of my list and will probably go back to the Japanese ( not that they are the best but at least they give some confidence ?), I know no car is perfect but problems of this magnitude????

    I have been reading this forum for some time and I can relate to what alot of the concerns people have voiced here. I was not going to post, but after the call I received from the "District Service Rep" today, I figured I would post my experience mostly to make people aware of a recall that was done by GM on a "regional" level. I didn't even realize they could do this, but apparently they can.
    First a little back story that may be a bit long so I apologize but hopefully it will help people understand where I am coming from. I am in no way a hater of GM, but I am also no longer a fan. This is what I have had to deal with.
    My wife and I purchase a 2007 Acadia new in feb 2007. We bought it because it was ( and still is) the only vehicle that offered all the options and space we were looking for without getting into another mini van.
    Shortly after getting the vehicle my wife told me that the car was losing power when she made turns if it was raining outside. We took the car into service at the dealership and they could not find anything wrong. This continued for the next couple of years, and honestly I thought my wife was making it up. At one point with my kids in the car, the car lost power and my wife was narrowly missed by a tractor trailer that had to swerve to miss her. Granted the driver may have been following too close, but still this is a bad situation. Again we brought the vehicle in, and again the service department told us they could not find anything and had never heard of this issue before.
    It was not until a couple of years later when the check engine light came on that I decided to look on the internet for issues with the vehicle. I was amazed to find out that the car had a recall on it that had come out about a month after we got it for missing splash guards. When i brought the vehicle back to the service department and showed them the recall they said they had just gotten that information a few weeks prior to that. I find it hard to believe that the dealer does not get recall info from GM for a couple of years. I contacted GM Customer Care and they were able to get my car fixed and to be fair it has not been an issue (as far as losing power goes) since. But I was still amazed the GM Customer kept trying to get me to say I was upset with my service department and would not even admit that they put my families safety at risk, by not telling me about the recall, and then denying there was even a problem.
    Flash forward to this past Monday- Driving home from the Outer Banks of NC in a heavy rainstorm. Crossing the bridge from the islands to the mainland, the windshield wipers stopped working. I could not see the car in front of me and I still have no idea how I made it accross the bridge without hitting another vehicle or the bridge its self. My first thought was that the motor went bad. I could deal with that. It's an electrical part and they can go bad. My first thought was wrong. The windshield wipers acted like they were not connected to anything anymore. We waited for the rain to stop and drove home. I looked on the internet the next day and found out that this too was a recall#08091, but because I don't live in a qualifying state I was never informed that the failure can happen. I find it hard to believe that GM would do a regional recall on windshield wipers becoming disconnected from the motor. First off the fact that GM feels this is caused by heavy snow, I think my situation proves wrong, since I was driving in heavy rain not snow. The other thing that I can't fathom is that they appear to believe that no one who lives in the South East would have any reason to drive to the North East. Seeing as my wife is from Boston, I feel the logic here may be a bit flawed. When I contacted customer care this time, it was to voice my concern again about the safety of my vehicle and to let them know that the recall may not be caused by what they thought it was. The first gentleman I spoke with was very polite and understanding and agreed that i had a reason to be concerned. He did however try to turn this into a dealer issue again, which I explained was not the problem. He spoke to me again yesterday to let me know he was going to have a district customer care specialist call me back.
    Well, today she called back. The first thing she said was 'So you want to see about having us buy the car back' I told her that I did not know what my options were and I only wanted to know that the car was safe for my wife and kids to be in. Her response:' We fixed your care, we didn't charge you for it. It's safe there is nothing more for us to do." I politely thanked her and hung up. I could tell from her tone trying to argue would be like trying to swim upstream in a flood. I have pretty much given up getting GM to acknowledge that they put my family at risk by not disclosing recalls, which I guess is also partially my fault,since I believed they would let me know about safety concerns. I am sure the newer models have gotten better, but I wouldn't stake my life on it.
    The real reason for me posting this is to make other owners aware of the recall so maybe they can get the concern corrected before they find themselves driving down the road blind.
    As for me, the Serria I had planned to buy after this vehicle was paid off, will not be happening. Not because I think that all GM vehicles are bad. But because I really don't think they care about their customers concerns.
    For GM: Not everyone is out to try and make money off of you, but acknowledging there is a real issue and showing that you do have a concern for your customers would probably go a lot longer than merely trying to give lip service.

    Why did you have to pay $1800 to fix your AC; wasn't that covered by your warranty? What belt did you have to replace? What is your dealership? It sounds like the dealership is the real problem. As an engineer, repairs done by idiots make designs appear faulty when they're not.

    Do you know if these problems ever re-surfaced in later years? I had the same problem with my Chevy Pickup when it shut off in the rain (when you need it). I received a recall notice and had it fixed with no problems. It is BS that you weren't contacted, and it sucks that you had a grumpy customer service rep to deal with afterward. It seems like all car manufacturers have this attitude, these days, in addition to mechanical/electrical failures. I can't find one that everyone likes, they are either loved or hated.

    You can check the recall number in my original post. It tells what vehicles were effected. I had an older Chevy S10 that had the wipers stop but that was due to an issue with the control unit in the motor. With this one the connecting rods( not the right term) actually come disconnected from the motor. The recall seemed like they believed this was caused by a build up of snow.
    I am not unreasonable, and I understand that anything mechanical or electrical can fail. Especially when you throw computers into the mix. The work I do I see brand new parts that fail right out of the box. I even understand that dealing with upset customers all day long can truly be stressful. What got me about the rep was I NEVER asked for a buy back, just a reassurance that the vehicle was safe and that they would contact me if they had a safety issue again. I was also trying to point out that the cause they assumed was causing the failure was not right since they still have a large number of effected vehicles out there that just happen to not have been purchased in the states they covered.
    Unfortunately, your right I really do not think there is really any corporation out there that gives the level of care to their customers that they probably should. As much as other people here will tell me I am nuts for saying so, if they would have just acknowledged the issue was a real concern and that I had a right to be concerned I probably would have considered another GM vehicle in the future.
    As it stands, I will keep my fingers crossed that nothing like this happens again with the Acadia again, and when the time comes to replace my old Jeep, I will be looking elsewhere. Not because I think all GM vehicles are bad, but because of the way this rep treated me.

    I posted here after my sunroof on my 08 Acadia leaked three times. It leaked a fourth time and I tried to work with GM to get an early termination of the last 5 payments of my lease with no strings attached. After weeks of reviewing the case, they would only agree to something if I bought another GM product.

    This week it rained hard again where I am and as I ran my hand across the inside of the sunroof seam I felt a lot of water on my hand. I took it to the dealer and the service manager explained that the sunroof is not meant to be water tight and that the drains are inside the vehicle. I was amazed to hear that it is not designed to be water tight, I could certainly understand the drains and catch pan inside the sunroof in case there is a problem, but can not believe that the design is to let water into the car.

    I have since asked for the documentation that explains that the design is to let water into the car to drain. Has anyone here heard this explanation or are there any engineers on here that can validate what the dealer is telling me?

    Glad I only have 4 more lease payments before I get rid of this vehicle.

    As a mechanical engineer, this explanation is bs. There are standard tests manufacturers have to test for, and letting enough water in to drain through other areas is ridiculous, that would imply a large amount of flowing water, which would likely occur in and around powered electronics like DVD players, gameboys, or interior electronics in the vehicle.

    I have heard so many ridiculous comments from managers at dealers, like having sand and dirt get in an automatic door and preventing it from working. We ended up buying elsewhere, got the automatic door and absolutely never had a problem, despite living in the high desert where dirt and sand are common environmental elements. The stories go on, and on. My best thought is for you to swtich dealerships, if at all possible. I just purchased a vehicle nearly an hour away, when there is one 15min away, due to the same trouble with shotty service and/or service managers trying to pull the wool over my eyes. It is frustratng, but by me driving further, I feel a great deal of satisfaction that it is worth the extra time NOT to have to go through being told ridiculous stories and having to argue about their validity.

    That really was a BS excuse. My '08 Acadia experienced major leaking issues in both sunroofs. After the 4th leak, the issue was finally corrected and they replaced my entire headliner as well as my carpet. I tried for several months to get GM to buy the vehicle back but to no avail. All of this occurred within the first two months after I bought it and other problems mentioned throughout this forum began to surface shortly thereafter. It is now 2 years later and I continue to take the vehicle in for non-maintenance issues. GM should feel shame for producing such a defective product.
  • Well, I have been experiencing all the problems that everyone here as been having with my 07 Acadia. I got fed up with it and contacted GMC directly to find out why there isn't a recall on the AC and the steering wheel. They told me, (which I think is a big fat lie) that there hasn't been many complaints about these issues and if they get enough of them, they will issue a recall.

    So any one that ones an Acadia, start lighting up the GMC phone lines, write letters and make a big stink about it.

    I read one of the posts in regards to the windshield wiper arms becoming disconnected from the motor.
    The poster wanted to know why there was only a regional recall.
    If you look under the used car section of this website, tips and advice, you will notice that GMC did put out a RECALL on this issue.
    This site also list every other item/service bulletin that has been issue on the Acadia.
    I purposely ordered my Acadia with every option I could get but made sure I did not get the Sun Roof. I have had problems with a Sun Roof in every car I have had over the last 25 years. I figured a GM sunroof would be no different.
    To that end, I have 80000 on my 2007 and it has been as reliable as any other car I have ever driven. NO problems.

    You are correct that this was a recall. If you look in the original post you will see the recall number in the post. However, the recall was only for specific states:
    The recall involves GM vehicles currently or previously registered in Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and the District of Columbia. This website, correctly lists all recalls on the vehicle, which is a good thing for people looking to purchase a vehicle. People who already own the vehicle should hear about these recalls from the manufacturer. I am sure if they lived in a state listed above they did. if they do not live in a state listed above, they probably didn't.
    Because it does not list all Acadias, if you did not fall under the above guidelines, you did not get informed of any issue. So yes they did put out a recall. If your vehicle was or is registered in certain states (Regions) This is why I question why they made this a regional recall instead of recalling all of the vehicles. I am glad that you have not had any issues with your car. Despite the issues I have had with mine, I still love the car.Just not the company.

    Oh, this is good. A couple of months ago I got a recall notice on my 08 Acadia. Turns out there's some problem with the mechanism that heats the windshield wiper fluid before spraying it on the windshield. I have to admit, this is a pretty cool feature of the car.

    In true GM fashion, here's the resolution - bring your vehicle in and they will disable the feature altogether since apparently they can't repair it. For your loss of this feature they're giving you $100.

    Three. Count 'em, three lease payments left and then it's sayonara GM!
  • The recall wasn't for the windshield wipers. It was for the windshield fluid heating coils. Evidently, this coil can heat up and cause a fire. GM is recalling it to take out the part, in exchange you will receive $100.00.

    Wow, I almost bought an Acadia, but ended up buying a Kia Borrego 4x4 due to the warranty (5yrs.60K & 10yrs/100k), rebates and discounts. It ended up being $15k less in price. I have had it a year now and haven't had a single problem thus far. I would really like to buy american and support our auto industry, but until they start building reliable vehicles, I am staying away from them. Good luck all.
  • I purchased a new 2010 Acadia SLT 2 on June 15, 2010. I bought the car because I had such a positive experience with my Chevy Tahoe (115,000 miles without a single problem).

    The car (with 725 miles) was running great until yesterday. When I started the car remotely, it sounded like the transmission was grinding. It settled down and started to run smooth. I drove it to a store 3 miles from home. On the way home, when I accelerated, the engine made a terrible screeching sound. The sound stopped when I decelerated.

    To make a long story short, as I pulled into my driveway, the engine seized with a loss of all electrical and electronics. Also, light smoke with a burning smell started coming from the engine.

    I called OnStar and had the car towed to my dealer in Provo, UT.

    I just got off the phone with service and the manager said it didn't look good--the engine was probably torched and needed to be replaced. Or, he said, it could be something simple -- he would get back to me when he knew.

    So, assuming the worst case scenario, what are my options. I don't want a car when a replacement engine--couldn't that effect value?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Been reading all your posts. Yeah kinda scared me. I have a 2009 acadia, and will only be 3 years this sept that i have it. Only 28000 miles on it, I work at home so dont drive it much but about a year after having it, Ive been having the same aggravating problem with it. I go to start it up on a very cold start (first start of the day) and it does this thing like its having problems starting like its dragging. Only last a couple of seconds and fine after that. It wont do it again for the rest of the day, sometimes it skips days of not doing it. Anyway, it has been to the shop multiple times, things replaced, almost hit the lemon law. Back in the shop as we speak bc of same problem but go figure, they SAY it didnt do it for them and cant find anything wrong with it, all tests come out fine, oh yeah and apparently ive already had to have a break job on it. The stupid car is only 2 years old. So any one else with this similarity? I have a case number going with GMC Im trying to keep on them. I want a new car. I didnt spend this much money on a car to have it do this. I know this is not supposed to happen. Anyone also know the website directly to where I can email GMC personally about the problem? This is my first brand new car ever and have had MORE problems with it than all the used ones i have owned since I have been able to drive.

    Has anyone else noticed that the GMC rep has not been on here for over a month? I wonder if she has her handsful with Acadia issues or is GMC trying to avoid the problems all together, Either way the issues are not going to go away.... What a crappy company to sell these expensive beaters to us and leave everyone hanging. This gives a whole new meaning for clash for clunkers. To make a statement everyone with a problem ridden Acadia should drive them through the showroom and leave them:) That may send a message.
