I was in Arizona last week and took a driving tour through the Apache Trail (wished I had a Subie) and the twistie mountain dirt road there was, well, in my own words - I was salivating and wishing to be in a Subie. My passenger (colleague) wasn't too enthusiastic with the 180 deg. turns and sharp bends... blind corners especially, some spots you can't tell if the road is straight ahead, turned, or dipped as the road is the same colour as the mountain sides.
If you get a chance, give it a run.

Feel free to add a link to my photo album, copy photos, whatever. I got some pretty good water crossing shots.

You got pics of the XT6 stuck that I missed. That guy was inches away from slipping off the trail completely.

You also got that RS with the mini-rhino bar. Hilarious.

So? Where is the Subaru? What has this got to do with Subaru?

These are not pretty photos! It almost borders on bad taste.

    I suggest someone remove them.

Daniel, they look good to me actually.

It's nice to see some pics of the real thing.

I grew up in Manhattan and used to work on the 84th floor...even after these many years not living there,I love New York and would move back in a New York minute. When they destroyed the Trade Center, part of my youth also was destroyed; but the city is still whole in my heart. We were there last summer for the first time in 6 years; that was when these photos were taken, and it was like coming home. Please understand that this board is a community of friends who share good and bad.

my daily view. Especially those shots with the grey background make it look even more "real" cause it's not postcard perfect day. It hurts more each day coming in on the ferry to an empty skyline, and the smell of burning buildings. It still reaks every morning on the way in. :(

    indeed.....

I'm glad you posted 'em though. Everywhere else all images of these builings are gone for the sake of "taste." Problem is, I was beginning to have a hard time remembering what NY and the towers really looked like before 9/11. Even better that these pics are on an average cloudy day. Actually helps dispel the awful images from that day, since those were the only pics around it seems.

I appreciate all your thoughts...When we were there those 3 days last July, it rained quite a bit and there was a lot of fog...Michael was disappointed because we weren't able to go to the observation decks at either the Empire State Building or the Trade Center. One of the nicest things I remember about working at 1 WTC: on some days, being above the clouds.
  • ffsteveffsteve Member Posts: 243
    Serge,

Thanks for the pics. I haven't been to NY in years, but appreciate the sight of the towers as a reminder.

    Best to all,

    Steve

As a native New Yorker, the WTC not only defined the city skyline, but what the city represented to me. I grew up seeing the WTC everyday. Just my two cents, but I didn't find the pictures offensive -- just deeply saddening. Don't know how to describe it, but it feels like looking at pictures of a long lost friend.

    Serge,

Absolutely. I've always been proud to proclaim I'm from New York, but the resiliency to the recent events have made me even more proud. Same goes for being American.

those are 2000 2.5RS rims wearing 215/50/16 G-Force tires. The tires are almost done, and actually I can't wait. The 205/55/16 S-03 PPs I have on the stock rims are more tenacious AND quieter. I'll wear these G-Force things out (came with the rims), put the S-03s on, and put all-seasons on the stockers. Then when the S-03s are done, I replace them with 215/50s.......

Best part? $400 for the rims plus the Goodriches. Building the car on a budget.....

you got one hell of a deal, way to go, they look fabulous.

Finally got a couple of pictures onw the web that we took for Patti the first week we had the car (Feb 2001).

    The first one is self-explanatory.

    image

The second one is taken at Keystone Ski Resort where I took it out and spun half doughnuts with it on the iced-over parking lot after everyone had left for the night. It handled the abuse to the VDC system with aplomb due to its rear bias.

Note the luggage stacked to the ceiling and skis on top!

Looks right at home, doesn't it? It even blends into the scenery some how.

Is that a smile on your VDC in the first pic? Color blends in with the background nicely.

    Lucien - nice wheels!

  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
My dealer quoted me $500 Canadian each for the RS rims, I enquired when I origionally Bought my car,I had considered buying a set because I really liked them but not at $500 each.

They also quoted $ 225 canadian each for the regular GT rims so you got one hell of a deal.

    Cheers Pat.
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
    Theo- very nice!

Pat- yea, the i-club is chock full of cash strapped dot-bomb dropouts right now; no one jumped on the wheels at $500 (would have been gone in 60 seconds over the summer), so I low-balled for the hell of it. He took it, so I drove to Philly and got 'em! Tires look great, but boy are they loud. No other manufacturer offers a 215/50/16 though.
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
That is an oddball tire size, regular GT is 205x55x16.

    Cheers Pat.
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
Pat-- that's the Contour SVT size. The car didn't really catch on either. ;-)

    -Colin
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
way too much money for the SVT. and it is still a ford.

    Cheers Pat.
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
215/50/16 is the Plus Zero equivalent of 205/55/16. I want to take advantage of the wider RS rims, but not if I only have one tire choice...

Awwww, I liked the SVT Contour. If only it had survived to see the new Mondeo.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Actually, 205/55R16 => 225/50R16, but close enough.

    -juice
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
I think there's a neglible difference between 215/50-16 and 205/55-16, especially given that one has (practially) no tires to pick from and the other is an extremely popular size. 225/50-16 is very popular as well, but I think we've fairly well covered in other discussions that the size often doesn't fit near-stock cars very well.

225/45-16 is another option, but again poor variety of tires and what is available is more expensive than the same model in 205/55-16 or 225/50-16.

  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
hmmm yea, well, I guess I didn't really need to hold out for 16X7s after all. I like the look of em though, so I think I'll use them for my summer tires anyway.
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
you got a great deal for them and they do look sharp!

just trying to offer useful advice for what to do when you do wear out those KDW's.

  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
It is really helpful, because you've hashed a lot of this out and, unlike many kids on i-club, you have a methodical, real-world, performance oriented approach. I actually only haunt the Legacy board and the Mid-A board anymore, as the rest are too noisy. (Well, ok, obviously I check Classifieds now and then :-) )
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Even w/o wider tires, the wider rims will be helpful over the 6.5" ones. IMHO.

This may be only a test, or it may be a photo of my Bean in the desert this past summer. Anza Borrego state park in July. Had no trouble keeping up with my companion in the Jeep, but then we didn't try anything too extreme.

There's been interest in the various forums on performance in sand. In this photo with the charming fellow in the hat (not me!), the road in was composed of coarse loose sand at least 12 inches deep - maybe more. The Bean swam a bit but never wavered on its course. AC and CD player didn't miss a beat.

Well, picture link didn't work, but try following this link:

stephen: can't get to your pics. it says 'barressa62's Community Page - No albums are available for public display'

ffsteve: the white bean looks sharp. did you air down your tires in the sand?
