I was wondering if anyone on this board had any experience with the Denver market. I'm getting ready to buy an EX-V6 sedan,no nav but the best price quotes I've been getting is invoice.
Only "junk fee" was $45 documentation. "Tire fees" and "smog abatement fee" (I love California) of $20. Dunno how much of this actually goes to govt versus stays in dealer's pocket.
The internet salespeople at Dublin Honda (SF bay area) were terrific.
I actually got a lower bid from Autowest Honda in Fremont, but the vehicle wasn't quite right.
Other bids were hundreds of dollars higher; next closest was $20,980, but without complete specification of other fees. Others were in the mid 21's. One dealer told me to take the $20,8 offer - he wouldn't match it.
I'm stumped how anyone made money on this deal. Invoice is $22,157, less 3% holdback and $500 rebate to dealer, and you have $20,992 dealer cost. Maybe the dealer was close to making some milestone volume number?
I cannot pick up a PZEV based Accord from anywhere in the Midwest so that is why I am heading to MA. for one. :-( A PZEV vs. LEV I4 is worth far more then the $135.00 up-charge to me but probably only to me? The family I am selling my Insight too also live in MA. and will pay my plane ticket back if I cannot find an Accord of my choosing. Since I am in the area however, I might as well pick up the Accord PZEV and drive it back home to settle the issue once and for all If I am unlucky on Monday with the Boston area dealerships matching or beating the Chambers Honda price, I will then transition to the larger dealerships in NY. and VT. even though they (Chambers) do not have any I4 based NAVI’s in stock right now.
If you have any leads on a Graphite Gray - PZEV based - I4 equipped EX-L w/ Auto and NAVI in MA. or remember any post of a dealership in the area offering great pricing, let me know. I remembered Chambers because of the $22,500 for a brand new 04 EX-L w/ Auto and NAVI last year (September/October time frame) when the $1,000 Honda FTD incentives were available let alone the $1,300 that came afterwards. True to form, they (Chambers) came in with a very good quote by phone at $23,201 for the 05 exactly equipped with not so much as asking for the internet manager and discussing the particulars for 3 or 4 minutes.
Along with that, does anyone know if a new car purchase in MA. has any unorthodox strings attached like $299 DOC fees or other such non-sense that cannot be bypassed? Charlie (one of the Chambers Honda Internet sales managers) will be calling me back on Monday to see if he has found what I am looking for from somewhere else but I forgot to ask if there was any of the garbage fees attached. It was after 05:00 EST on Saturday and I was in a bit of haste to call other dealerships in the area. I did not get the chance however. If Chambers only had the GG - PZEV I was after I used Honda’s own “Request a Quote” w/ a Boston Addy and my E-Mail on late Saturday night to see what comes from that on Monday but finding a $23,201 deal on a PZEV EX-L w/ NAVI is going to be tough to beat given what we all know about Accord pricing around the country To bad I didn’t live closer to that Fremont, CA. dealership everyone seems to receive great PZEV based deals from :-(

I think that post is about 80 years out of date :-D
In terms of a PZEV’s, most of Chicago hasn’t figured out what a hybrid is or where to pick up low sulfur gasoline let alone what a PZEV stands for! Unfortunately, neither has the rest of the US other then CA., MA., ME., NY., and VT. :-(
Hello, I am in the market for an 05 EX-V6 w/o Navi in the Northwestern Ohio (Toledo) and Metro Detroit region. The local dealer I spoke with will not even consider selling at invoice. They also claim the FTD incentive of 500-600 is for 2-doors only, despite what I've read in this forum. Will probably end up contacting multiple dealers via the web but was wondering if anyone had any better luck with pricing in this area?
Good luck tomorrow, Wayne. You have certainly done your research.

I have found the Denver market for Accords much worse than other places (based on other posts/Cars direct/my own experience). Most of the quotes I got were invoice at best. The cheapest place I found was John Elway Honda - but even for them it seems like it depends how badly they want to sell that particular vehicle. They offered me $300 under invoice for a 4 cyl with Navi last fall, but after driving it I decided I was going to hold out for a 6 with navi(which they didn't want to discount at the time) But they were they only ones willing to deal much. Good luck.

I too had found the Michigan area market quoting prices above invoice. I was considering making the trip to the Chicago area based on the prices I was seeing from there.
But then I contacted Duthler Honda in Grand Rapids. Their internet sales contact was very helpful and to the point. With little hassle I was able to get a price on an Accord EX-L I4 with auto of $21,900 including destination and splash guards. It may not be as good as Grand or Wilde, but I was happy that I was not going to have to travel out of state to get it.
I had sold my 2000 EX-L on Friday and because they could not have the car ready for me on Saturday they gave me a 2005 Pilot to use until mine is ready. Unless something goes wrong tomorrow this will be one of my better purchasing experiences.
Interested in purchasing this car in the next few weeks. Anyone have personal experiences with prices paid? or know what a good target price should be?
Excel - I did a lot of price shopping when I bought our 2004 Accord V6 EX w/Nav and the most aggressive price I got was from Bernardi Honda in Natick and Boch Honda (we bought our Accord from Boch). Save yourself some time and call each place and talk to the sales manager and get a price. We are fast approaching the end of first quarter and you should be able to leverage a good deal. Let them know you are a serious buyer. Good luck!
Jersey Honda is running the I4 LX on fleabay for $17.403 + destination ($515) + $198 doc fee - your choice of in-stock colors. Invoice is supposed to be $18,315 including destination, so this would be about $400 under invoice + the doc fee.
Is that the instaquote price from Open Road Honda in Edison. Because when I did an Instaquote on that dealer i got 17403 (not sure if it includes the desination fee)
I bet "Open Road" and "Jersey" are the same place. If you go to www.carsdirect.com and put in the Edison ZIP code the price comes up $18,384 including destination which is $650 under invoice. I don't know how they are selling for even less than that.

To the posting from Fairfax, Va, that got a deal at $300 less than invoice (+tax+ttl) can you tell me the name of the dealer? I live in the Shenandoah valley and would like advice on your dealer(s) experience.
It was Fairfax Honda. I wasn't that thrilled with the sales manager or the F&I guy, but our salesman was great.
In a posting about a month ago, one guy said he got an Accord at Koons Honda in Manassas for about $600 under invoice with no hassle. They offered him that price over the internet.
We have looked at cars at Koons a few times after one of our Manassas Battlefield walks, and we like the store. They have a large inventory. I would try contacting them first.
The Shenandoah Valley - could there be a more lovely place to live?
Congratulations Wayne!! Good job. I did not realize this but you and I are in search of the same vehicle. I'm also looking for 05 Accord EXL I4 with navi in graphite pearl. I'm curious why you like the graphite pearl? I am considering a TL as well but it just does not seem worth the extra $9500. After a long search I found dealer in Phoenix that will sell the Accord EXL I4 4 dr with navi for $23361. That's the best I've been able to do. I was quoted a PZEV from Freemont for $23183, but I'm over 1000 miles away. Looks like the the Phoenix deal (non PZEV) and add $210.00 for shipping is the best "so far." Of course I want to pull the trigger prior to the end of the month to take advantage of the 2.9 financing. I'm assuming this will not be extended by Honda. The Phoenix dealer is assuring me that this is a break even price and wonders how I got a lower price quote. He mentioned the dealer hold back. If anybody can beat that in the NM, AZ, CO, West Texas area let me know. Congrats Wayne!! Why the PZEV? The Freemont dealer was perplexed as to why I would go all the way to the bay area for PZEV?
My wife is still considering the TL w/ NAVI for our MDX Touring w/ RES but who knows as she changes her mind like the wind changes directions. She didn’t like the Accord I4 w/ NAVI (it wasn’t smooth enough for her supposedly?) and the EX V6 w/ NAVI didn’t have all the toys that the MDX does so that is why I think she is still leaning towards the TL? Maybe after she tries my I4 EX-L out for a while, she will want the same although she really liked the TL we test drove a few weeks ago. It was about $9,500 difference here also :-(
It sounds like you are receiving a very nice deal as well. I wish you didn’t have the shipping charge but at least you beat the local stealerships at their own game.
Why a PZEV? I am a bit on the green side so being able to purchase one of the cleanest emitting automobiles available in the country for < $150 extra makes me feel good ;-) Given the Chicago areas lack of clean air because of some of the highest sulfur content gasoline in the Midwest (poisons CAT’s like you would not believe) certainly made the decision easier. Chicago’s high sulfur gasoline will disappear in 06/07. Actually, the 15 year/150,000 mile emissions warranty for the miniscule up-charge vs. the Fed mandated std. Emissions warranty doesn’t hurt a bit given I lost a CAT on the 03 Corolla at ~ 58,000 miles (fully covered under the 60,000 mile emissions warranty) and it would have cost ~ $1,200 to replace if I had driven just 2,000 more miles! That scared me a bit as you can well imagine ;-) Good Luck with your own Accord - Purchase and Buying Experience. Wayne R. Gerdes
That is interesting as the invoice shows $24,583 when I check it - so obviously there is more money from Honda than the $650 that we don't know about or the invoice prices we see are just wrong.
E-Bay price: $17,400 E-Bay commission: $278.92 (=4.8+1.31+26.81+1.5%*(17,400-1000) Net to Dealer: $17,121.08 If you're buying directly from dealer. This is equivalent to: $17,636.08 (after $515 destination)
This means that around $17,600 is a good price for Honda Accord LX!!
$40 insertion fee and $40 transaction fee (if you get a bid over your reserve) plus $5 for reserve and some bux for pictures. So it is not nearly that much. Since the dealer has their phone number and direct e-mails pasted all over the listing, they could do a lot of deals and not pay the transaction fee.
It still is cheaper than invoice and less than I have been quoted from local dealers.
Someone posted a few weeks ago that the Honda dealerships are buying Accord’s from AHMC for ~ 4% under the Invoice price you and I have access too. Add in a $0 - $600 FTD incentive on top of all this and I can see where the dealerships $23,000 purchase price for the above comes from. This dealership (Boch Honda) posted that they were the number one seller of Honda’s on the planet in February so I can bet they met their sales goals last month and will do again this.
All the Accord invoice pricing we have seen in this forum is still a guess? Given what I heard the salesman say about $200 over their price tonight, this sort of matches up with the best prices I have seen both here in the Midwest and from the Fremont, CA. Honda dealership. I wish a Honda salesman would step up to the plate and tell us what the real Accord invoice prices are but if this forums members keep digging, hopefully we will eventually find out. This is a very amazing feat Honda has pulled off given all the posts in this forum over the years imho.
Finally, do not forget that Accord sales are still falling year over year and as the months go by, the $1,000, then $1,300, and then maybe even a higher FTD incentive will arrive for those still waiting. I can only hope so given the 04 PZEV based I4’s w/ Auto and NAVI went out at $22,500 last year from some of the biggies on both the East and West coasts. I bet someone is going to do even better that that on an 05 as it is only a matter of time. RX330, yours does not count as yours truly was a steal literally ;-)
Even with hold back and these small FPA numbers I can't get some of the deals to add up. As you say, the key is that dealers are buying cars for less than invoice - has to be.
I have always heard it was against the law for the car (or motorcycle) maker to sell cars to dealers for different prices - but I bet they have found a way to reward these high volume dealers with extra discounts. On know I paid less than invoice for my GL1800 a couple of years back - from a very high volume 'wing dealer. For every x bikes they sold they got an extra "demo" bike - the demos were supposed to be to allow test rides, etc and were sold to the dealers at a deep discount. Well, they kept one for the test rides and sold the others to make up for how little they made on the other bikes. I am sure Honda knows they are doing it (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) and could care less as long as they move them out.
Just purchased a basic '05 Accord EX - I4, auto, through Boch of Norwood, MA Internet service. Transaction was very easy and Keith (Internet Mgr.) was very accomodating. I traded in my '98 Accord EX w/ 116k miles. Bottom line was $15,500 w/ my trade. I gave this same option to a dealership in RI and they wouldn't touch it. They said "we are quite aways apart". So I went back to Boch. Just wanted to share this with the forum. Thanks.
What are they saying the selling price of their car is? They don't have any prices for LX or Accords on their web page just "make an offer" buttons :-)
It only cost me a little over $600 to have my S2000 transported from CT to TN, so if I got a good enough deal....
"Out the door" means different things to different folks, so no way to tell.
Post your negotiated price w/o tax, title, tags, or doc fee - but feel free to list the fees with your posting.
For example, in my state there would be 7% state sales tax on the purchase price + $80 local tax. Our tags are $59 plus a modest title fee.
Innvoice on the EX I4 coupe w/auto is $21,303 and I think there is a $500 dealer incentive on the car. So HERE, $21,303-$500 X 1.07 + $80 + $59 + $20 + $200 doc fee = $22,618,21 "out the door" at dealer cost including the $500 in dealer money. Since your tax rate and fees will be different, don't know if your deal is better or worse that that.
Still toying with the idea of getting the LX I4 auto sedan for my wife. Remote dealers (NJ, for example) offer some really good deals - way below invoice, but local dealers either can't or will not get close to those prices.
Anyone know of any similar dealers a little closer to home for me? Northern GA, TN, Northern AL, middle or Southern KY would be fairly close. I have used a car transport service on 3 deals before so I can do that, but it eats into the savings pretty quick.
I've had good luck with small town dealers.. I bought my last Honda from a dealer in Chillicothe, Ohio.. I was on my way through there on a little vacation...
I can check, but normally to get under invoice you have to talk to someone who is really high volume. The too small dealers have to make too much off of every sale to give out good deals - in my experience.
Just picked up a new 2005 Accord LX 4 dr sedan Automatic from Holmes Honda in Shreveport LA. Paid $18,000 plus tax, title, lic.. 2.9 % financing with No other fees. Dealer was great, car was as promised. I highly recommend these guys!!
I am still considering making a road trip to the Chicago area but you're price wasn't bad and certainly more convienient for you. Any trouble picking up the vehicle? I am tempted to wait for the 06 model but I really need to replace my car now. Thanks for the info.

No problem at all. No pressure to sell anything else, (warranty, gap ins.) I am realy pleased and enjoying the XM radio. I would recommend them, at least the internet sales guy. Tell him I sent you if you contact him. He may even be able to go lower, I was in kind of a hurry. Tell him Carl sent you.
Guys, I just bought Honda Accord LX at prices lower than the E-bay price. None of the other 15+ dealers in Northern NJ or Manhattan area were able to match his price. The salesperson is super nice. I enjoyed the experience of finalizing price over phone/email/fax. Now, I'd never even consider walking to a showroom without a finalized Purchase Agreement.
Two more days before end of the month. If you're still in the market for a Honda, I'd negotiate hard.
If anyone wants contact info. of the sales person / dealer, feel free to send me an e-mail (e-mail address in the profile).
I'm pulling the trigger on an 05 Accord EXL I4 4dr AT with navi. Internet price is $23361 plus $210 to ship it me ( I live 450 miles from the dealer.) Other fees $289 doc fee and $5.00 tax. Once we had all that out of the way I was told I had to pay a city tax of 2.4% even though I'm having it shipped to my home state where I will promptly drive it to the DMV to register. My state, NM has 3% tax and the dealer told me I will only need to pay 0.6% (3% - 2.4%) for state tax since I paid the city tax. This does not sound right??? Any body ever heard of this? Also, if this deal goes through can anybody give some tips on how to approach service with this vehicle. We have two Honda dealers in the city but of course I did not purchase from either of them. What if I have question etc...
If possible, please share the name of the dealership and time you got the quote. Thanks, It would be highly appreciated if you can forward this quote to my email accout. (you could find my email address from my profile)
They didn't say what their price was...I just submitted my offer along with mentioning my trade. The way I figured it was: $20k for the basic '05 EX (with auto) and $4.5k (KBB) for my '98 trade. So I offered $15.5k and they accepted it...could I have done better? Maybe, but I'm happy with what I got.
Yesterday my wife and I drove from Huntsville, AL to Louisville, KY (~300 miles) to secure an Internet deal with Sam Swopes Honda. We purchased a 2005 Accord EX-L (2.4L) AT, Sedan for $22399.75 (including accessories, delivery, and installation charges) plus $399.25 Documentation Preparation Charges for an OTD price of $22799.00. I will pay the Alabama 4% sales tax when I register the car here in Huntsville this morning. The delivered car included: trunk tray; mud guards; wheelwell moldings; door edge guards; pin striping; paint sealant; undercoating; and something called a KREX System. We also secured the 2.9% Honda financing. We traded my wife's 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with a promised trade-in allowance range (contingent upon vehicle inspection). True to their word, Swopes Honda offered a trade-in value about midway in the promised trade-in range after the inspection...we were pleased! We gave them a small credit card deposit to hold the vehicle last Thursday, 25 Mar 05, and told them we would arrive the morning of 29 Mar 05 (Tuesday). They had the car ready for us when we arrived, and everything was handled in a friendly, professional manner. The whole process was completed in less than two hours. I realize that we probably could have done a little better if we had driven to Grand Honda in Chicago, but we are pleased with the deal and very happy with the 2005 Accord EX-L (our second 2005 Accord EX-L...mine has the NAVI).

That scared me a bit as you can well imagine ;-)
Good Luck with your own Accord - Purchase and Buying Experience.

E-Bay price: $17,400
E-Bay commission: $278.92
(=4.8+1.31+26.81+1.5%*(17,400-1000)
Net to Dealer: $17,121.08
If you're buying directly from dealer. This is equivalent to: $17,636.08 (after $515 destination)
This means that around $17,600 is a good price for Honda Accord LX!!
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/motorfees.html
$40 insertion fee and $40 transaction fee (if you get a bid over your reserve) plus $5 for reserve and some bux for pictures. So it is not nearly that much. Since the dealer has their phone number and direct e-mails pasted all over the listing, they could do a lot of deals and not pay the transaction fee.
It still is cheaper than invoice and less than I have been quoted from local dealers.

Do not forget that Hold Back is 3% of MSRP and the Honda dealerships receive a Floor Plan Allowance as follows:
4D 2.4 DX 5-Speed Manual - $75
4D 2.4 DX Automatic - $80
4D 2.4 LX Manual - $90
4D 2.4 LX Automatic - $95
4D 2.4 EX Manual - $100
4D 2.4 EX Manual w/Leather - $105
4D 2.4 EX Manual Leather w/Navi - $120
4D 2.4 EX Automatic - $110
4D 2.4 EX A/Transmission w/Leather - $110
4D 2.4 EX A/T Leather w/Navi - $120
4D 3.0 LX Automatic (V6) - $105
4D 3.0 EX A/T w/Leather (V6) - $120
4D 3.0 EX A/T Leather w/Navi (V6) - $125

Good Luck to you all.

P.S.- I made the right deal for me my average mileage is going up now over 25 mpg with freeway commuting and some stop-n-go and 25% in-town.

By the sounds of it, you are just about ready to cross over to the other side and learn how to hypermile ;-)
Good Luck

I am not sure what is going on your Edmun's reference shows 3% and this reference shows 2 % holdback http://www.wheelsdirect2u.com/dealer_holdback.htm#table
Which is correct ? Probably Edmund's

I am nervous that they might screw us on the trade in now that the deal is low - trading in a civic.
It only cost me a little over $600 to have my S2000 transported from CT to TN, so if I got a good enough deal....
Dennis
Dennis
Anyone know of any similar dealers a little closer to home for me? Northern GA, TN, Northern AL, middle or Southern KY would be fairly close. I have used a car transport service on 3 deals before so I can do that, but it eats into the savings pretty quick.
Thanks!
Dennis
I've had good luck with small town dealers.. I bought my last Honda from a dealer in Chillicothe, Ohio.. I was on my way through there on a little vacation...

They are a long drive away (nearly 600 miles one way) so something closer would be better :-)

Two more days before end of the month. If you're still in the market for a Honda, I'd negotiate hard.
If anyone wants contact info. of the sales person / dealer, feel free to send me an e-mail (e-mail address in the profile).
Thanks,
John
