I bought a dbl cab v6 and got gap coverage only for the simple fact that where i live there are alot of big accidents, people running lights, so it was worth it to me, but if you live in a rural area like the back 40 or something i would take my chances, because you have a tacoma you would have to have at least $18k in damage, the gap that i got was $395 small price to pay if it got totaled i only put down $3k, so i would have a gap of about $5k as of today of couse it would shrink over time because its a toyota, but if you a putting down more than $5k i would not get the gap, you are just paying for something that would not even take into effect.

Same here guy. I got a speedway blue on a prerunner DC with trd off road #2. Not my original color choice but like you mentioned it's a head turner so.. no regrets and lovin' it.

I'm buying the truck, not leasing. I didn't think about the down payment. I'm putting down $7k. Which leaves about $21k owed on a DC 4x4 TRD. I don't think I'll be getting Gap Ins.

I've been working with a number of fleet managers after sending out about 30 faxes on Monday and Tuesday, and I am finding it very interesting that a lot of them will proudly quote a price like "$27,520 - that's $700 over invoice!" And when I run the numbers in my customized spreasheet, I can easily see that they are including the $565 destination charge in their quote. In other words, you remove the destination charge from what they are telling you is "invoice", and they are actually quoting $1,265 over invoice. (they overstate the real invoice fee).

Has anyone else found this to be common? Or is this what everyone means when they say that they got a car for $500 over invoice (that they included the destination charges in their "invoice" number).

Best offer so far, by the way, is $700 over "invoice" but it is not quite the configuration I am looking for (I may go for it anyway - we'll see). Has anyone in Southern California ordered a Automatic Double Cab Long Bed 4x4 TRD Sport with Tow (PK)? If so, how long did it take? It seems like this particular configuration is very uncommon and I will probably end up ordering it - I just want it here before summer is over! Oh, and despite lots of other dealers willing to deal, surprise surprise Longo quoted me MSRP. LoL

When I was looking for a deal, Longo didn't want to discount very much ($1000 off). Even when I e-mailed them a counter offer, they said they couldn't go any lower in price. I finally found what I wanted at $2050 off MSRP at Frontier Toyota in Santa Clarita, Ca. I don't know how Longo can be the biggest dealer in Southern Cal., unless there are a lot of people willing to pay top price for a Toyota.

Everyone pays the destination fee. Just like taxes!! If you price check on Edmunds or any other site you will see that the dest. fee is included in the invoice price.

Yes, of course - that's not what I meant. I just mean that I was expecting the destination charge to be added to the bottom line (along with taxes and fees) rather than the top line. For exapmle:

Not the way it's calulated. It's part of the cost of the vehicle and everyone pays the same.

I just checked my invoice and the destination charge is on it, I paid $500 over invoice for my Pre runner DC sport, they took the botton line on the invoice and added the 5oo.

Also on the factory invoice was advertising $380 and gas $6.

This does not show up on a edmunds worksheet but its on the invoice and you pay it.

Edmunds intentionally does not include ad fees in their invoice price listings because they are variable - ad fees are different for each market of the country. Destination costs are fixed.

Santa Maria Toyota - very good to work with so far. I'll be finalizing the paperwork and deposit tomorrow. Anyone have experience on deposits for orders? (any problems with it? - they are asking for $500). The fleet guy I am dealing with seems like a real straight-shooter, which is really refreshing. Told me 6-8 weeks for the order to come in. (I don't care about color).

This way I can get it without the stupid $500 radio that I am going to throw away anyhow and replace with an MP3 deck. :-)

No. You're paying $1000 over. The destination is included in Edmonds invoice.

Invoice should include the destination charge, but not the advertising fee. You should also subtract out the dealer holdback to get the true invoice.

I paid $700 over invoice (with invoice calculated this way). If you paid $500 over invoice without holdback and with advertising, then you really paid about $1,300 over invoice.

Heh, we're a group that is arguably much better educated than the average publich about car pricing, and we still don't all seem to agree on this "invoice price" issue. It is very confusing.

Bottom line, I sent over 30 faxes to fleet managers and general managers on Monday (keep in mind there is no weekend between Monday and the end of the month AND the end of the quarter so I assumed that other than the end of the year, this would be IDEAL timing for a "fax attack").

I got a surprisingly small response to my fax attack, despite saying that I was flexible in my option configuration and color choices (just wanted to be sure it was a 4x4 DC LB Sport). This deal was the best offer I got. Here's the offer I am getting ready to sign the order on:

4x4 DB LB Auto (7596)
TRD #4 w/tow (PK)
Side airbags (GY)
Daytime running lights (RL)

Total price (not including sales tax and license) is $28,227

Dealer is calling this "$700 over invoice" I am planning to order it from them, and am being quoted 6-8 weeks.

When I put in your numbers at Edmunds.com., it show the MSRP to be $30,500 & invoice was $27,250. If you are getting it for $700 over invoice, that would be $27,950, not $28,227. Are you sure they aren't adding any other options (like carpeted floor mats, door sill protectors or first aid kits?).

Edmonds "invoice" is not the true invoice (intentionally according to the forum moderator) because each region has its own cost structure on top of this "base invoice". For example, here in So Cal, there is an additional $300 TDA fee to the dealers, which they count in their invoice. This accounts for the difference. In the South, there are even higher fees.

According to a woman on the Toyota Customer Service 800 line this morning, Toyota has issued a Technical Service Bulletin # BO004-05 (that is Bravo Oscar zero zero zero four - zero five) which covers the fix for the "windshield cowl leak"

She also confirmed for me that the fix has been implemented in the factories, and that all new Tacos being produced have the new manufacturing process to fix the problem in production.

No, I'm embarassed to admit that I did not ask. She just said that the factory always incorporates the TSBs into manufacturing. (which makes sense since it is cheaper to retool at the factory than to pay out warranty service claims and suffer bad customer satisfaction). If you call your dealer you should be able to get the date of the TSB, which should provide some indication

I'm curious if you know the cost of your moonroof installation? I am purchasing a 2005 Tacoma 4X4 TRD Sport Package #2 next week and the dealer is having a moonroof installed for "their cost" of $1120 (after beating them down from $1500). I'm not so sure the dealer is installing the moonroof at their cost, especially since they installed one in my last Tacoma for no additional charge.

I ordered mine the first week of February and picked it up on wednesday.
dbl cab, 4x4 long bed, sj package, tube step, side air bags, mats, drl's, cd changer all for the low low price of 28136 (plus t and t).

I signed a contract with a local dealership about two weeks ago for a Tacoma DC LB 2WD. Went with Option Package #6 (SG) as they told me the factory was not making #8 (SJ). One of the options I added was the 6 disc changer with the audio controls on the steering wheel (Option DZ).

I was told that their allotment had just run and that I would be at the top of the list for the next run at the end of the month. I called today and spoke to my saleperson. He said they were having trouble finding a truck with the DZ option, then clarified it as having trouble getting it that way from the factory.

I'm not real sure if they placed it with the factory or are just trying to locate one. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Anyone have any experience with getting an audio upgrade? Seems like it should be easy to order from the factory this way.

What sort of time frame did they give you? If they where ordering it I would excpect at least a 60 day wait. if they told you less they are hoping to get it in the next alocation and were not ordering it "Special". DZ is a very rare option
and not found very often unless one had "Ordered" it that way.
I order #8 SJ and we had it to deliver to customer in about 70 days.

They said they would "put it first on their allocation". This was on March 18th. The sales manager indicated it could be months for a special order. I actually closed the deal with the general manager. He indicated they should get it in the next allotment (end of March) and I should have it in mid April. Worst case would be mid April allotment for delivery at the end of April.

I was going with the assumption that it would take 4 - 8 weeks. When they call me back today, I'll find out if they ordered it or are waiting / hoping for the right allotment.

Do you know if the upgrade to the JBL stereo (adds different speakers and subwoofer) is more common than just the 6 disc / steering wheel upgrade of the DZ option?

I just bought a black 05 DC 4x4 TRD Sport #2. The MSRP is $29,315. In the Cincinnati area I was able to find the best deal at Perfomance Toyota. They didn't have it on the lot, so It took them a couple days to find the exact Tacoma I wanted. They got it from Indiana, which only raised the odometer to 63 miles by the time I got it. I got the salesman to throw in the floor mats for free and drop the $565 destination charge. So the total was $27,012, not including tax, title, etc. They also dropped the interest rate a couple % after I played a little hardball. The Internet Sales dept. was very friendly, patient, and helpful. They also seem to have a great service department. For this area, and how hot the Tocomas are right now, I think I got a good deal. I LOVE this truck, so far.

I just picked up my '05 Tacoma Access Cab Black Sand Pearl 4x4 Sport Pkg #2 6spd w/Dee Zee Tubes and VIP Security last week and man am I happy with it. I waited over two months for this vehicle though. From Jan to March only two of these were allocated in Northern Cal and I was lucky enough to pick up the second one. Because I negotiated the vehicle well before it was even built, I think got an excellent deal. $26,500 for the Vehicle and the MSRP for it was $28,500. 2 Grand off the sticker price doesn't seem too bad for me. And plus I drove it off the lot w/ 3 miles on it. Funny how after receiving the vehicle, the dealer tried to sell it to me at a higher price. I just laughed and showed them my signed papers for it @ $26,500.

niether audio upgrade is very common, only see them in about 1 in a 100 trucks.
I wouldn't hold out much hope in getting other than ordering it.
They are able to do a factory change request where they request a truck that is already scheduled to be built and then request them to add this option to it. It has to be far enough back (at leat 30 days) in the factory so that they can get it changed. Not always accepted though, the planets have to be in perfect alignmnet
to get it done some times

Here's a word of advice for those that are considering ordering a new Taco. You can save some $ by not ordering a truck with a lot of basic accessories. I'm talking about accessories that don't have to be dealer installed, like floor mats, bed mat, bed divider, exhaust tip, etc. If you have items like these added to your trucks window sticker then you will be paying full price for them, plus if you finance your truck, you'll be paying interest on these accessories as well as the truck itself.

If you want some accessories, just wait until after you have bought the truck. Then talk to the salesman about their 10% over cost deal on accessories when you buy a new truck. I just ordered some stuff from the parts department, like the Bed Divider which would cost me $295 if it was on the window sticker, but I ordered it after I bought the truck and it only cost me $197.
I did the same thing with the Exhaust Tip, window sticker price: $64. Parts Department: $32.
BedMat, sticker price: $119. Parts Department: $56

So as you can see, you can save from 33% to 55% by ordering accessories after you buy the truck. Plus you're not paying finance charges on the accessories.

I'm not sure if you can get these kind of discounts on big stuff like a bed shell, but if they did it would save hundreds $.

If you can install tube steps by yourself, you can save a LOT of money by ordering them from the Parts Dept., and not getting them included with the truck on the window sticker.

BTW, the salesmen and Parts Dept at Performance Toyota in Cincinnati OH. were really nice and helpfull about getting me good prices on my truck and accessories.

I don't mind waiting. If I'm spending the money on a new vehicle, I want to get it exactly right.

The real misconception here is that what you build on the website is not always avaialable. You would think they would be more accomodating to customers who have placed an order.

I know what you mean, the dealer I went to gave me a 10% off on all accessories at the parts dep, I just bought a dash cover and thinking about someother stuff too, that 10% card is good as long as i go there with no expiraton date which is good.

I'm looking for an acess cab, 4x4, auto trans, with TRD off-road #2 package, and DZ radio option in speedway blue. I don't mind ordering the truck and waiting for it....I just want to find the best deal I can and commit to buying as soon as possible since I expect a lengthy wait for delivery.

Here in arkansas they are offering $500 to current toyota owners for the Tacoma. You just have to own a toyota, you don't have to trade it in. Either way pricing here is still around 1,000 over invoice but the Tacoma's with trd packages are hard to come by. I don't really need the trd package judging by posts, I'm assuming the upgraded seats are worth it?

TRD Off-road 6 speed Access Cab

OG - DZ - Z1 - FE - delivery included - MSRP $27,615.

In CT - $25,500 + tax, actual reg, & $200 dealer conveyance.

I waited 5 weeks for it, it was worth it. Other dealers stated MSRP is "the price" .

Dealing for a vehicle that nobody has isn't the same as dealing for a lot lizard. I'm happy with the price.

$28,500 for the TRD Sport AC, with tubes and security?

MSRP on the same truck without the tubes and security is $27,500 in my area. TRD trucks come with keyless entry and an engine immobilizer, so what is the additional security, a horn? Those are expensive steps!

My local dealer was offering me the same truck, less steps and VIP, for $25,500 (because he had one), when he had problems finding my TRD Off-road. I didn't want a Sport, as I drive my truck off-road, and I don't like the scoop.

That price seems a little high. If you're ordering the truck, you can save a lot of $ by buying some of the accessories after you buy the truck. Refer to post #300 in this thread.

Plus the Sport package #2 already has the rear windows tinted. The dealer isn't allowed to tint the front windows. Make sure that your salesman isn't adding items that are already included in the package. And the skid plate is kind of a rip-off in my opinion. $200 for a 1/4" aluminum plate that just fits overtop of the steel plate that's already there?

Yeah, the best way to see if you are getting a good deal on your truck is to get a price with just the truck and whatever package you want (SR5, TRD, etc). Then once you know you have a good price, you can add other stuff. The dealer will use add-ons to cover up the real price of the truck, and make it hard for you to notice that you aren't getting a good deal.

First posting. I bought a silver streak reg. cab 4x2, 2.7, Auto, with AC and steel wheel pkg. last of Feb. Paid $500 over invoice at Karl Malone Toyota in Sandy Utah. Love the truck. I'm getting 22.5 mpg in mixed town and freeway driving. Any others buying reg cabs with 2.7 ?

Supposedly, I found a dealer that will sell me an access cab 4wd, TRD #2, auto trans, DZ radio, and preferred accessory package (floor mats and door dill plates) for about $26K (sale price.) The MSRP is around $28,500. I don't have it in writing yet, so we'll see what happens. If I can buy it for this, I think I should take the deal and run. Any comments on this?

Hi all,

I live in VA about 35 miles west of Washington DC. After shopping around a bit in the DC area, I told my local dealer in VA I wanted an Access Cab in black with 4WD, V-6, manual transmission, the off-road package, and the DZ radio upgrade. The salesman said he'd find it for me, so we made the deal on March 20 (at $2100 off the sticker price before tax, title, etc.), he found the truck on March 22, and I took delivery on March 28.

By the way, if anyone is looking for a locking gas cap for the '05 Taco, Stant does not have a listing in their current catalog, but their model 11506 fits and works just fine.
