I'm in SoCal as well and looking to get a 06 Coupe with Premium package. I want to do the 12month/12k lease special that they have right now. I was wondering how easy it is right now to get them to bring the price down of the car to like $500 below invoice. I know you got yours for $700 under invoice. Did you had to haggle a lot to get that price or was it easy? Did you shop around before settling on this dealership? Which dealership is this? Please let me know since I need a car asap. Thanks.
no IT IS NOT WORTH IT because its not below invoice man and I'm getting a G35 Sedan automatic with Sunroof, Prem. Pkg B, and Sport Pkg for about $32.5k man that is included tax+license and other stuff.
edmunds says $2500 incentive for dealers right now.. so u might be able to knock another $500 down i guess.. but trade in value for ur audi seems fairly low which is expected from a dealer.
I hope this is the correct forum for this. If not I apologize. Please correct me.
I'm looking to sell my 2003 g35 Coupe here in the SF Bay area but I am unsure as to how to go along doing this. I'm skeptical selling private because I don't want strangers tearing up my tires on test drives. I'll most likely get screwed on a trade in. I do not have any high expectations for making money on the deal just that my car loan is paid off.
Has anybody had luck with selling to Carmax? I actually bought this car from them on the east coast and had a very pleasant experience.
Any suggestions or advice you can provide is very much appreciated.
I went to Carmax to get a trade-in value on my '05 G35 coupe, since I was considering getting an '06. Carmax offered me $23,000 while one Infiniti dealer offered $25,500 and another Infiniti dealer offered me $26,000.
Bought a 06 AT Sedan Base no options for 2500 under invoice at Infiniti of Montclair... But they apparently sold me a damaged car (paint damaged on roof), and I'm having a heck of a time getting them to fix it, so stay away from Infinit of Montclair :lemon:
We looked at an Infiniti G35x the other day and the salesman said there was a $500 holdback so he could let us have the car for only $32,550, (G35x with a sunroof,Edmunds.com says the invoice is $32,092). Later at home I saw that "Edmunds.com" indicates an Infiniti manufacturer to dealer cash incentive (holdback)is really $2500 from 8-1-06 to 9-5-06. Consumerreports.org" indicates the holdback is only $940. Which source is right and what is a fair profit for the dealer to make factoring in these holdbacks in Massachusetts? Thanks.
Thanks for the prompt reply...but which holdback is the truth? Naturally I'd like the $2500 holdback to be in effect. And how can I verify that $2500 is actually the correct holdback amount? Thanks again.
The dealer incentive and holdback are two different things..
The dealer incentive is a special payment made by Infiniti to the dealer, to assist in clearing inventory on a specific model... The dealer usually will achieve that by passing along the incentive in the form of lower selling prices on that particular model..
Holdback is a payment that Infiniti makes to the dealer on every unit sold... Ostensibly, it is to defray the cost of financing the dealer's inventory... I believe that it equals 3% of either MSRP or invoice price on each vehicle.. Most dealers aren't interested in sharing this money with the buyer, thought that will vary with the competitive market.
Thanks kyfdx, Just to clarify the issue then; according to edmunds.com there is $2500 that the manufacturer (Infiniti) will give to the dealer for each 2006 Infiniti G35 sold between 8-1-06 and 9-5-06 for "marketing support" with no restrictions. Is that an "incentive" or is it a "holdback" and why can't I factor that into my assessment of what the true dealers' cost (invoice)is? Thanks again.
That is an incentive, and you should certainly factor it into your assessment of the dealer's cost...
Other members here say you can even get into the holdback, as well... That may be true at certain dealerships, but of course, there is no guarantee that your local dealership will match that price..
Is dealer holdback for infiniti dealers really 3% or is it like 1% which edmunds have. I thought it was 3% too, but when I saw their list it said 1% of BASE MSRP. Anyone know exactly how much it is?
Thanks for the info about the 2500 manuf discount to the dealer...I am going to the local dealer tomorrow morning to offer on a twilight blue G35x...sticker is 37,250....i am going in at 31,894..he is entitled to profit...was looking at a CamryXLE 6 when I stumbled upon this info..forget that..I have a 93 J30 which is starting to wheeze and cough..has been a great car as long as the roads were dry..but when they get wet...the hula in the rear is something to behold...thanks again for the info...I am looking forward to the purchase tomorrow....good luck all
Thanks everyone for the valuable info. I am in the market for a sedan, currently looking at Lexus ES350 and G35. I just priced G35 using carsdirect for San Diego, CA zip code. It seems that $2500 is the current incentive, my G35 w/ premium package 03, splash guards, trunk mat/ full size spare tire w/ MSRP= 35,800 is offered at 30,311 (2450 below invoice) WOW...... However, just wonder if I can use this number to have other dealers in So. Cal beat it.....I know I am greedy but can't blame myself since the competition is fierce in So. Cal.
Regarding the current 2006 Infiniti G35 dealer incentive and holdback; I'm still uncertain of the exact amounts to factor into my offer. Edmunds says there is a $2500 dealer incentive, but no mention of any holdback. Consumer Reports New Price Car Service says there is a dealer holdback of $940, but no mention of any dealer incentive. As such, the information available so far is inconsistent. Which one is right and is there any other online source that would support or confirm this data? Thanks again for the great information here.
What is a reasonable amount for this fee if any on a 2006 Infiniti G35x? Frankly, I think it is bogus and paid nothing for a document preparation fee on a Ford van I bought a couple years ago. Anyone paying it here or knocking it down at all? Thanks.
I am off to the dealer soon....I have my offer already prepared and a counter..all based on the 2500 incentive and the 940 holdback...if they turn it down I walk...from what most are saying on here that incentive is real...if what they say they paid is truth..I will soon know..sent an email to the dealer with the specific cars I wanted lease or buy prices..his response...I have several colors to choose from want to come in for a test drive??..The entire car buying process is absurd and there is no reason for it to be...I was specfic to their inv#'s and still the game..amazing..will let you know when I return....he is the only dealer within a 100 miles...
I know exactly what you mean. I was dealing with an Infiniti dealer's online dept. I told them exactly what I wanted. He e-mailed me back saying they have many Coupes in stock and to call him. I emailed him back that I wasn't interested in dealing with him on the phone. Then, he emailed me with a price that was $700 higher than I had gotten from another dealer. I told him his price sucked. He once again asked me to call him. I didn't. A few days later, he emailed me again saying he has several used Coupes in stock. I emailed him back saying I never said I was interested in a used Coupe, since I already have an '05. He emailed me back saying there must have been some misunderstanding, and once again asked me to call him on the phone. Moron!
The car-buying process in this country is so incredibly inefficient and moronic! There has to be a better way!
Its called integrity...these people, or most of them have none. I am in the diam biz. Talk about a blind item...and basically a person has a choice..to be honest and make money or to cheat and make money. Eventually the cheater is found out and loses.. I still have not heard from the salesman...so I am going...offer in hand...and ready to walk at the first sign of the game being played..it is just a car and there are too many out there to care one way or the other.
This board is a terrific source for info..glad I stumbled upon it...
2006 G35x with premium package C. MSRP $37,600. Dealer says invoice is $34,600. He is offering the car to me at $32,500. Does this price sound about right? Thanx, Jeff
So on a base model of a 2006 Infiniti G35x with a MSRP of $33,250 (according to Edmunds), then 1% of that is $332 which is the holdback. However, Consumer Reports indicates there is a $940 holdback which would be about 3% of the MSRP....which source is correct? Thanks.
Just returned from the dealer On the G35x with the prem c package. A lease is based on the MSRP of $37,250..comes to $417.77 +tax for 10k miles @39 mos. The residual is 57% and the money factor is 0.0093=2.23APR with just $668.59 down.
Then the sales rep quotes a buy price of $34,773..which i knew was too much. After some chit chat the sales manager wants to meet me and after some banter he drops the price to $32,608+DMV fees+tax and explains that the lease price is based on the full MSRP but he has received some special funds to make a deduction on the buy price.
By my calculations the car minus the holdback mnus the 2500 manuf to dealer incentive plus the c package actually costs them $30,668. The lease being based on MSRP is off putting to be sure but the buy price which is $560 below invoice($33,168 after their holdback of $940) is not bad. Just not good enough. Sooo, on Monday I will counter with my best price and see if they take it.
If I were to put down 5081.49 the 39 month lease would cost $326.21.
Any thoughts on these figures??...I think the extra money they have to work with just being on the purchase is baloney but who knows.
Thor, I'm looking for a 2006 G35x also. My impression of your deal is this;
$30,580 invoice price on G35x base model 3,016 invoice price on premium package C 650 destination charge __________________________ $34,236 dealer invoice
Factor in (subtract) a $2500 manufacturer to dealer incentive and a dealer holdback of either 1% (Edmunds) or 3%(Consumer Reports) of the MSRP...depending on what you believe. Check out his inventory online...he may be stuck with a lot of G35x models. I think the dealer can do a little bit better myself and come down more. They aren't losing money but they won't just give them away either. Just my 2 cents worth.
go to the dealers website....some show their inventory...some do not...or go to the dealer which is the most accurate..its amazing how many dealers have such awful sites...they only want to get you there and by showing very little they accomplish just that
I agree, if the dealer's web site doesn't have a way to check the inventory you can call them or just go there and ask them. I think they make the websites lame on purpose just to get you there "in the flesh." Even better, maybe go Sunday if they are closed....that way the salesmen won't swoop down on you like a french fry on the asphalt at a Burger King.
Greetings. Just came back from the local Infiniti dealer and test drove the G35x. The first impression I had from the sales person was pretty good. so, I am thinking about to make deal on the G35x with Premium Package C, Painted Splash Guards and Trunk Mat w/Full Size Spare Tire. The CarsDirect.com gives me the target price of $32,661 (after the manufacturer to dealer incentive), I am planning to make an offer of $34,000 OTD. Feedbacks, please?!
I was offered 32,608 to buy and i think it is too much. The C package seems way overpriced for what you get. The sunroof is the only thing I want..they can keep the other stuff..but they don't have the color that I want without it. My calculations show the car with the C package costs the dealer 30,668 after the 2500 and the 940 holdback. I am going to offer on Monday..but going back tomorrow to see what they have with just a sunroof in the X.
Make an offer for whatever you want to..if they accept you buy the car if they don't you can go up or walk away. I just went on Edmunds to compare the lease quotes I got to the buy price..and it is amazing the difference in savings to buy the car. I was really amazed.
Hi, recently purchased a fairly newer(used) infiniti G35x from a Hartford Ct area dealer... :confuse:
Can you believe this! First they hand me a purchase order to sign which they "forgot" to subtract my trade in...oops
Then they proceeded to rush through the rest of deal and as I was signing my name on the contract they asked for my credit card so they could take a deposit. I took five steps out the door before I realized the deposit was NOT even a subtraction on the contract I just signed! Was I silly for thinking an Infiniti dealership would have more class??
Not silly....just too trusting. I learned a lesson long time ago with car dealers. In my youth and my naivete thinking that trust matters I thought I had bought an RX7 signed purchase agreement, left a deposit and left,,car had to be ordered. 2 weeks later I get a call saying the car was in but I had to pay an extra $1,000 because the price had gone up. When I stated that I had a signed purchase agreement the dealer said..."we didn't sign it". If I wanted the car I would have to pay the grand. Well.I told them to shove it and got my money back. Since then I would never trust any car dealer regardless of what they sell. If I buy the car on Monday I will sit there forever if need be to be sure everything is in order. Whenever there is money involved you had better be sure that all is correct regardless of who they are.
Out of curiosity...what do you do for a living or income? To be upfront, I am in the car business and as a matter of fact I sell Infinitis. I usually give the best deals and service to customers who appreciate my service efforts, product knowledge, who are nice to me, and most importantly...don't ask me to work for free. If your employer asked you to work for free how would you feel? How would you live? My happiest customers are the ones who pay me a little more for the car. I'll go out to their house for service, be on call for them at any time, and take great care of their friends or whoever they send me. Price is important to everybody...but remember...you get what you pay for. If you have a crappy salesperson that's one thing (and believe me they are out there), but if you have a decent person, take care of them and they will take care of you...and don't ask them to work for free or you probably won't have a good experience. I hope that helps or at least will improve your dealership experience.
just so you guys know...the 2500 "cashback" CANNOT be applied to leases...it is only available for cash purchases or financing. don't think your dealer is lying about this...I work for Infiniti.
I am new here...are we talking about the 2006 G35 coupe? Is $2500 incentive and 1-3% holdback the consensus??
I just sold my 4Runner and am going out to buy a G35 Coupe this week. I am dreading the experience. I would rather buy a new house. I am gonna shoot for the 1.9% financing for 36 mos.
Is there anything else i should know in ref to pricing, before i go down to the shop.
you shouldn't dread the process... just a tip for your buying experience...when you go in ask for the salesperson with the highest "CSI" and or longest tenure. CSI is the measurement of a salesperson's Customer Satisfaction Index and if they have been there for a little while then they know how to make a lot of customers happy. P.S. try to get a good price but don't ask the guy to work for free
I was in a totally blind item business...diamonds. I was a buyer and I hear exactly what you are saying. I didn't work for free nor would I expect anyone to. However, i also never lied to anyone about a diamonds grading and believe me the diamond buying public can be in big trouble in dealing with "salespeople" who truly have no clue about what they sell and intentionally misrepresent to make a sale. Those pesky commissions can do wonders to integrity. I know the difference between great service and all the stages down from there and that is what I expect when I deal with people. If I get that they get my business if they don't give that they get the reciprocal. If I am buying a car I realize that the dealer deserves profit..he needs to eat as does the sales rep. However, in prior experiences, because I was too trusting I made errors that could have cost me. That is why I am a very guarded consumer. IE,I signed a purchase agreement, the dealer didn;t, the car that I ordered came in, they told me pay an extra thousand or no car and when I said I had a signed purchase agreement they cheerily said we didn't sign it..so pay the increase or no car. Pretty slick move eh??..I refused to pay and didn't buy the car from them. That is what I am referring to. So when I go out to buy or lease my Infiniti as I did today I did my research. I asked the sales rep for a 36 month lease, 12k miles or 10 if it was available. He comes back with what...a 39 month lease..not what I asked for. And gave me prices based on that..however he didn't give me the complete breakdown of the numbers for the lease which I had to ask for. I should have not had to ask...all the pertinent numbers should have been handed to me so that I could make a decision to buy or lease. It would be similar to me not telling a customer all the stats about a stone I was selling. Sort of lying by ommision. If I am dealing with a car salesperson I want him/her to be totally knowledgeable about the product, about the financial rates, about the entire transaction. I don't need someone who will quote a price and then have his sales manager enter and lower the price by 1800 basically without me saying a word. I wasn't buying today but I was trying to get an idea of prices which I did...and now on Monday I will offer the price that I am willing to pay based on my knowledge of the costs that I am aware of to the dealer such as the 2500 incentive that the salesperson or the manager never mentioned. Had I not come to edmunds I still would not have known of it. The salesmanager mentioned that he could lower the price, as he did, because he has some extra money to offer customers who are buying the car. My complaint basically is...there should be one price on a car,,,and that goes for all. No games, no hide the info from the people who don't investigate the purchase as thoroughly as others. When you go to a supermarket to buy a steak is there a holdback, an incentive, a salesmanager to give a better price. That is how cars should be treated..no bs MSRPS..just a fair price that the dealer has to make to survive and to live and to profit from his business. I would venture to say that most people hate the car buying process because of all the game playing. It is too expensive an item to buy and then have to play a game to get a "GOOD DEAL". My dealership experience is improved when I get all the info that I need to make an intelligent decision. Not having to worry about the fine print or terms that I have no clues as to their meanings. Its a car for heavens sakes,,,tell me the info, give me the price and let me decide about the purchase. Don't quote me a price that is too high and then come down..and then come down again..Just give me a price and thats it. But quote me a price that is 3k below MSRP and then another that is 4K below it...well heck..keep on going because now I don't believe that any price is the real price. Going from 37,250 to 32,608...is that really the final price...how the heck do I know? Well I might know because I did my research...and I have read what people say they have paid on here so now I think I can get a cheaper price and so the game continues on Monday. I am not impuning you or your brethren. There are good and bad in all businesses. I am just stating that the process itself needs to be changed to make this major purchase enjoyable from start to finish..as the salesmanager said today it needs to be a win win situation. He is correct. How that is achieved can be accomplished in a much more direct way IMHO. Where do you sell Infinitis??...and maybe you could tell me what is a fair price for me to pay for g35X with the c options package..MSRP,,37250..no trade,,,and a lease for 10k miles, 3 years with money down or all monies built in to the lease. And when you need a price on a diamond you can ask me and I will extend the same courtesy to you...take care..
ncognito, you are my hero. That's one of the best posts I've ever seen in 5 years or reading this board. I've leased a few cars over the years for self and family, and have found the best way to get the best price is diddle over the internet for a few days, then start forwarding emails and some of these posts to the sales manager to let them know that you are an educated consumer and if they cut through the BS they can make a sale. Why is the first quote MSRP? It's so that when they come in with another quote that's $1000 off but still way north of a decent dealit seems like they are giving you a good deal. My feeling is let the dealer keep the holdback and $500 over their true cost after all incentives etc. It's a volume business, they make their profit and I'll keep coming back. People spending 30 large shouldn't be treated likecrap - no one should for that matter.

$27000 + title/tax for G35 sedan automatic no optional equipment.
By the way, they said this was below invoice price (around $31000 before tax but still making nice $1500 from rebates)

with almost 10% tax+title here it is nearly $3000 under invoice
any opinions? is this a good price? if not, what would be a good price?
