Did you recently rush to buy a new vehicle before tariff-related price hikes? A reporter is looking to speak with shoppers who felt pressure to act quickly due to expected cost increases; please reach out to PR@Edmunds.com for more details by 4/24.
Thanks for you email/post and in order to help you better please let me know what work has been performed on your vehicle. I think you have set a record for visits to the dealer as far as I am concerned. I have been back now 6 times and just picked up our vehicle last week on Friday. Over the weekend I took a long drive and so far the light has not come back on but I am still not convinced that it will not stay this way. I am just as disgusted as you are about the problem. Whenever you have to spend more time at a car or truck dealer than you do at your doctors you know things are not well. I waited a whole year for the 6.7 liter diesel and I had plenty of people telling me not to buy 2007.
Lets face it that this truck does look great but the materials used like the front bumper, rims, paint, and a few other things are not top notch. As far as the ride is concerned I feel it is by far the best in in its class. But all that is worthless when you have this gut feeling that the new blutec technology is going to cause us unnecessary stress and money in the future. I myself refuse to live with with a lemon since this vehicle was far from cheap.
Please email us back what services have been performed on your vehicle so we can compare the services. I know that my turbocharger has been replaced at least once, my computer has been reprogrammed at least 7 times, and lets not even talk about sensor changing. All of there things seem to be common among all of us who have a 2007. As far as people with 2008 having the same problem I do not know anyone with a 2008 so I can't talk about this. I will look forward to hearing from you soon ASAP to help you as much as we can.
I have had 2 turbo chargers, replaced the catalytic converter, an oil line to the turbo ruptured on the way home from picking my truck up from the shop, 4-6 O2 sensors, fuel pump replaced, countless computer upgrades, diesel particulate filter desoot which had to be repeated in 2 weeks with desoot of the 02 sensors. It has been in the shop for a total of 30 days. As far as dodge is concerned its a fixable problem and they have no further responsibility. They won't even help get me into another dodge vehicle. I talked with a mechanic about getting a 2008 6.7 and he advised against it saying that he has replaced many a turbo, catalytic converter etc........
I have been reading reviews about the 2007 dodge truck diesel engine and they haven't been good. I just purchased a 2008 Dodge 3500 Diesel truck with the 6.7 Blue Tec engine. Does anyone know of problems with this truck? I haven't taken delivery yet, it is getting bedliner, leather, gooseneck hitch etc.....I have a 2004 3500 and it has been a great truck, just has 192,000 miles already.
I have been told that they arent much better. I have been told they been having most of the same troubles as the 07's unfortunatly.Turbo problems O2 sensors etc...
Ranchlady, My 2007 3500 4x4 6M 6.7L DRW Single cab Blu Tech has been trouble free. The BIG DISAPPOINTMENT is the awful MPG and coupled with the premium PLUS PLUS price for ULSD. My decision to buy another CTD is regrettable. My very good experience as a previous high MPG CTD owner made easy my decision to purchase another CTD and, in addition, with the anticipation of future high fuel cost and the exceptional good MPG I have received from my previous CTDs my expectation were set very high. Hind sight is said to be 20-20 so, I would not recommend the CTD until the problem with ULSD formula is fixed. I do not have a recommendation for an alternative GAS powered 3500/ HEAVY DUTY TUGGER. The problem you have heard reported is the ULSD. A website biodieseloasis.com are T-diesel economy community who burn/run diesels on "chicken fat" . The diesel was invented nearly 100 years ago for economy. The EPA and the Greens have taken away the economy minded recreationist's TUGGER of choice to save the creation "for their children" and not yours. Happy Earth Day!
Hello I am new, and having the same kind of problem you are having I bought my truck in June 07 it just turned over 25,000 and the light just came on again for the 7th time it's had a turbo and updates. Can you tell what form you recieved from Oldtech ?
Hey mule5. Sorry for taking a while to get back to you but I have had a very busy schedule lately. Regarding your question and oltech he has given me very important information on how to handle the procedure for lemon law process. As far as a form I never received the form you may need to initiate the lemon law process for your vehicle from oldtech. This form is in a booklet that is given to all new car buyers that deals with lemon law instructions. If you do not have this booklet you can acquire one from your dealer or from your states "State Attorneys Office". I Googled the office in my State and they have been very helpful so far. My engine light has been on as many times as yours but I only have a little over 15,800 miles on my vehicle and the last repair attempt was performed a few weeks ago. My engine light just came on again yesterday. Based on what the representative from Dodge told me when we spoke if it turned on one more time they were going to buy the vehicle back from me. If you need any other help feel free to email us back and oldtech thanks again for all your help.......
Hey oldtech just wanted to let you know since last I emailed you I had taken the vehicle in for the last attempt for repair. Yesterday it was 3 weeks since the repair and the light came back on. The representative from Dodge told me that if it came on again they would have to buy the vehicle back. I am calling him this afternoon to finalize everything. Will update you soon.............
SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE ON YOUR WAY . I'M GLAD IT'S WORKING OUT FOR YOU. NOBODY SHOULD HAVE TO TOLERATE THIS NONSENSE WITH THIS BLUTEC EMISSIONS JUNK. IF THEY'RE GOING TO BRING SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO MARKET THEY SOULD TEST IT THOROUGHLY FIRST AND STOP USING THEIR CUSTOMERS AS TEST SUBJECTS. I'M STILL STICKING WITH DODGE AND I'M ENJOYING MY NEW HEMI RAM. WHEN THEY GET THE BLUTEC STUFF PERFECTED I'LL PROBABLY GET ANOTHER DIESEL. BUT ANYWAY, GOOD LUCK. OLDTECH
Hey oldtech, thanks for your reply. Beleive it or not I just got the call from the factory rep and he needs me to have the dealer document the light being on and then will call me back to proceed with the buyback. They have already asked me if I would consider a gas replacement but I told him no since the main reason we purchased the vehicle was for the economy and on the highway I have been getting an average of 18-19.5/gallon. At this point I need to move on and buy something else that does not need to to be taken to the dealer so often. It funny but I was looking at the Honda Ridgeline just for curiosity and that small truck only gets 20MPG on the highway. Well I will email you again in a few days................
have a 2006 250 dodge pickup with a cummins engine, it starts and runs and after it warms up it will cut off , wait and let it cool off and it will start up again and run for a little while then die again, dodge house has replaced the lip pump, said this will do it , but i am still having the same problem, can somebody help me!
I'M GLAD YOU FINALLY GOT SOMETHING GOING. I KNOW DODGE WILL DO THE RIGHT THING IF GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY. I MAY HAVE ALREADY TOLD YOU BUT I DID TRADE MY DIESEL FOR A 1500 HEMI AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT THE HEMI GETS ABOUT THE SAME MILEAGE AS THE DIESEL. I'M AVERAGING 16.5 AND GETTING OVER 18 ON THE HIGHWAY. WITH DIESEL FUEL RUNNING 60 TO 80 CENTS A GALLON HIGHER THAN GASOLINE. AT THESE PRICES I'M HAPPIER WITH THE GAS ENGINE. KEEP IN TOUCH . OLDTECH
hi all,i have a 08 2500 ctd 6.7 and it has been in the shop 3 times for the light.it has only 3378 miles.i hope this is not going to be a steady thing with this truck.also the parking break turned lose and it rolled down and hit my boat.the dealer said there was nothing wrong with the break.OK if there was nothing wrong why did it turn lose by its self?BTW i was not in the truck when it went.i was allmost in front of it.just a word of warning WATCH OUT WHEN YOU USE THE PARKING BREAK.THEY TURN LOSE BY THEM SELF.
i need to know whitch wire works the "ding-ding" when the key is in the switch.there are 4 wires on the plug.this is a 2008 2500 ram with a 6.7 CTD.I want to disable the ding-ding.if anybody knows a better way to disable it with out cutting a wire i am all ears.
Did you have a problem with the filter everyone is talking about. Will they buy back the truck if this filter is not fixable..and keeps going out.
Our truck is sitting in the shop now..and they said it will be a month before they get the nationally back ordered part. And the Service manager told us this will continue to keep happening...and to fix the truck it costs $10,000 each time...What are we supposed to do when the warranty runs out and this part goes out at $10,000 a pop
I HAD TROUBLE WITH JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING ON THE BLUTEC EMISSION SYSTEM ON MY 6.7. THE DEALER REPLACED THE O2 SENSORS, THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, THE EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE AND THE TURBO CHARGER. THEY CLEANED THE EGR PORTS TWICE AND PERFORMED A CONTROLLED BURN OFF OF THE PARTICULATE CATALYST TWICE. I HAD 7 CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS IN 6000 MILES WHICH PUT MY TRUCK IN LEMON LAW STATUS. I KNEW THIS TRUCK WAS GOING TO BE A MONEY PIT SO I ASKED DODGE TO BY IT BACK. THEY DID BUY IT BACK AND I NOW HAVE A 2008 DODGE RAM 1500 WITH THE HEMI ENGINE. I HAVE HAD NO TROUBLE WITH THE NEW TRUCK AND IT GETS ABOUT THE SAME MILEAGE AS THE DIESEL. BY THE WAY. IT DOESN'T COST 10,000.00 FOR A PARTICULATE CATALYST. THEY COST ABOUT 2400.00 DOLLARS INSTALLED AT THE DEALER AND THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO LAST ABOUT 125000 MILES. YOU SHOULD PETITION DODGE FOR A BUY BACK BECAUSE THIS BLUTEC EMISSIONS SYSTEM IS SOME SERIOUS JUNK ON THE 6.7 CUMMINS DODGE TRUCK. GOOD LUCK AND KEEP ME POSTED. OLDTECH
Hello Guys I am new to the group but I hae a o7 with the 6.7 nad the only 2 issues I have had was the Security Module went bad and THe best I have got in the milage is 15 in town and 17 on the highway. I will admit I push it a little hard in town. I have 26000 miles on it and got in back in september 07
I went a whole month without my engine light coming on and I was hoping that maybe..just maybe it was fixed. My engine light came on today for at least the 12th time, but who can keep track at this point. My truck is now over one year old. I tried to have it lemon lawed back in the beginning, but they were splitting the finest of hairs and refused. I have talked to dodge reps each time it has been in the shop, but continue to be told it is a "fixable problem". Does anyone have any advice or am I totally out of luck at this point? When I have looked into trading this vehicle in on a hemi, they were wanting to give me $23,000 for a $41,000 truck.
Sorry to hear about your troubles with your new Dodges. I have an 07 3500 6.7liter cummins with a 6spd manual. I now have approximately 32,000 miles on it. 20,000 miles was stock and the last 12,000 miles with an Edge chip on it. I have had not troubles with it at all! I pull a 34' weekend warrior from California to Minnesota every summer. The truck performs beautifully. I am giving this to one to an employee and will be getting the exact same thing. I am considering an automatic transmission, but with that i will opt for 4:10 gears. Any opinions on this?
I have had excellent luck with my new 6.7 liter cummins and 6spd manual trans and 3.73 gears. I need to get another one and am considering trying an auto. But with this, I am thinking of getting 4.10 gears. Anyone have any opinions ?
Gears 1 through 5 of the automatic are very similar to 2 through 6 of the manual (for the additional gear, the manual has the granny low, the automatic has the second overdrive). So if the 3.73s do the job for you with the manual and you don't use the granny 1st very often, stick with the 3.73s for the automatic.
I have 04 dodge 3500 and on the exhaust side of the turbo. it is the part that is connected to the exhaust manifold and turbo it has a crack in it.can you tell me what this part is called thinks.
Niknar, I feel your pain. We just got our 02 Dodge 3500 6.7 L out the shop Friday. Teh notoriuos filter got stopped up by going under 60 miles an hour and idling. Anyway, we were going to try the lemon law because in our state if its been in the shop a total cumulative days of 30 then they say they will buy it back..but we only have about 17 under our belt...so we are waiting for the light to come on again or to break down on the side of the highway again and be towed. We haev already consulted an attorney and plan on getting one if this happens again. They said you can use a term called Revoke acceptance. It preyy much gives you the right to reject the contract you signed when you bought the truck because here you are paying so mucha month and you have not received what they promised on their end of the contract. I woudl consult an attorney and tell them your case...it''s free for a consultation. Good luck...
thank you for your thoughts. I just got back from a 600 mile round trip and was really trying to pay attention to RPM & speed. I have 34" tires and at about 70mph i am barely turning over 2000 rpm. With a manual, I can keep it in 6th gear and lug it and it just does awesome. But i am concerned that with an auto, it will constantly be wanting to drop down a gear. Hence my thought for getting 4:10 gears. I think this will only raise my RPM about 200-250RPM which might be nice with the taller 6th gear in the auto.
YOU NEED TO FILE FOR ARBITRATION RIGHT AWAY. INSTRUCTIONS ARE IN YOUR OWNERS MANUAL. YOUR ONGOING PROBLEM IS WORSE THAN I HAD WITH MY TRUCK. DODGE BOUGHT MY TRUCK BACK WITHOUT HESITATION. PUSH THEM HARD AND DON'T TAKE CRAP FROM THEM. LET ME KNOW WHAT HAPPENS. OLDTECH
Im looking at both ('06's) and was told by a dealer that the Mega Cab gets less mileage than the Quad Cab? I don't see how, both are Dodge Diesels. Any Help?
I have never heard of such a thing. I and my father have owned both and there is no difference. My father currently has an 06 megacab with an edge chip on it and when he watches his speed, he can get 20+mpg.
I have an '03 3500 that used to do that. Other than a minor annoyance, it never caused any other problems. Avoid taking it in if that is the only problem. Most mechanics nowadays at the dealers i have been to are remove and replacement specialists. Mine no longer does it. It did it for the first 20k miles or so, I now have 104k. Good to go.
I'm having a problem with my engine loosing oil pressure when stopping at a stop sign etc. especially when it's hot outside and pulling a load, i.e. travel trailer. I'm using 15W-40 oil, oil pressure is 45-50 psi or so when above idle and steady at working rpm's. When I stop at a stop sign, sometimes the oil pressure suddenly drops to zero, the check engine light and warning sounds. If I rev the engine a little, the oil pressure will pick back up again. I'm going to install a direct reading gauge asap to try to isolate the problem to the oil pressure sending unit, but wonder if any of you have had this problem and I'm dreading to suspect the oil pickup tube is either cracked or the attach bolts are loose.. Engine just turned 200,000 miles and uses a qt of oil about each 500 miles.
Engine light keeps coming on and dealer cant seem to fix it. They claim it is due to the emissions on that yaer of truck. They change o2 sensor , turbo, clean this and that. I find it interesting that when i fill tank completely up and then run to 7/8 of tank the light comes on religously. It will go off after a bit and then back on at half a tank. I have told dealer this and they claim that is coincidence. Dealer claims they have this engine light problem on a lot of the diesels and cant fix it. All i can do is keep bringing it in so they can clean it and reset computer.
Hi there, took delivery of my diesel quad cab four weeks ago, I drive about 20 freeway miles to work each way. Engine light came on at 1422 miles so I called the dealer here and dropped it off two days ago for repairs."> First it took them till today to finally scan it, now they tell me they have to clean egr and replace o2 sensors. Dealer told me it will probably take several days to get to my truck,<img src=" I stopped buying big three vehicles 20 years ago because of reliability issues and it is looking like maybe I should not have started now. after reading numerous posts here on this subject and listening to the dealer tell me its not a big deal you just need to run it on the freeway to clean it out I am very concerned. I frequently take outings to the back country in the beautiful state of Nevada where you will be more than a few hours from anything resembling a road you can drive faster than 5 miles per hour. what do you do if this thing decides to plug up in that situation? If this problem persists for me like it seems to for others I am definitely going to go through the buyback and invest my dollars into another Tundra.<img src=" :lemon:
I HATE TO TELL YOU BUT YOUR DEALER WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO KEEP THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OUT ON THAT TRUCK YOU'VE GOT. IT IS NOT YOUR DEALERS FAULT. IT IS A DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THE BLUE TEC EMISSIONS SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE TO CLOG UP THE EGR AND THE PARTICULATE CATALYST. I HAD THE SAME VEHICLE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON 7 TIMES IN 6000 MILES. I ASKED DODGE TO BUY IT BACK. THEY DID AND NOW I HAVE A 2008 RAM 1500 WITH THE HEMI ENGINE. I'M VERY PLEASED WITH NEW TRUCK. I THINK YOU SHOULD CHECK ON YOUR STATES LEMON LAWS. YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET DODGE TO BY IT BACK. OLDTECH
Check with your dealer there is a lenghty TSB to correct the problem now. Further more have the dealer let you know what your percentage of run times are. OldTech since your buy back they have made some strides to correct the problem
I have the same problem with my 2500 diesel ram. It has been in the shop 4 times so far with this last time now being four days and I still don't have it back. If they don't get it right this time I guess I will have to see about the lemon law. Good luck with your veh.
1st of all most problems with the diesels are found to be that the owners are not regenning there vehicles and not checking how far the cat systems are sooted up. Everyone should have gotten a DVD telling them the proper procedures to follow.
Many and I do agree don't realize that the new 6.7 cannot idle for long periods of time. Dodge is working to correct this problem to allow the regenning to work under a different procedure We have fixed 2 so far and so far we have been lucky to correct the problems
How can you tell the difference in the cummings diesels dodge put in the ram 2500 SWB trucks in 2004. I understand there was a midyear change from a Horsepower @ rpm. 250 @ 2900 to the 305 @ 2900 Torque (lb-ft) @ rpm. 460 @ 1400 to the 555 @ 1400 Is there a way to tell by opening up the hood and looking?
first half of model-year 2004 (trucks produced through November 2003) - California output (CARB states) 235/460 - "High output" (non-CARB states) 305/555
With production beginning in December 2003, there was just one engine in all 50 states, rated at 325/600.
On the driver's side of the engine is a large sticker identifying the engine size and output. If it says "ISB 325" you have the "2004-1/2" truck; all others are the early 2004s (ISB 235 or ISB 305).
The 250/460 (non-CARB states) engine was only available in the 2003 model year. Once the automatic transmission became available with the 305 in midyear 2003, the 250 engine was dropped.
I did get the DVD and I did watch it just like I read the owners manual. I don't let my vehicle idle except at a traffic light or stopped in traffic. I normally drive my vehicle at speeds of 40 or higher and it is ran for usually about 45 minutes 99 percent is open highway. It has been in the shop four times for this problem with the last time being from Monday to Friday I got it back and on Sunday the light came back on. Dodge or the machanics don't seem to know how to fix it. The veh is an expensive piece of junk.
You people are spooking me. I just bought my 1st diesel (CTD) Ram 2500 6.7. I've had the catylst full message twice in the three weeks I've owned it. Yesterday, I got the engine light and took it in. Hope to have it back today after they said they need to blow out the turbo. My question is: the Service Manager asked how often I ran the exhaust brake. I said never and he recommended I keep it on continuously. I don't know much yet about this Blutech system, but it seems to me that running the exhaust brake is going to hurt my MPG. It doesn't seem that great as it is right now. Comments please before I pick it up today... :confuse:
APPARENTLY THE ONLY WAY THIS TRUCK WILL FUNCTION PROPERLY IS AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS WITH A HEAVY LOAD. THIS TRUCK WILL NOT WORK FOR EVERY DAY TOOLING AROUND. I'M GLAD DODGE BOUGHT MINE BACK. THAT TRUCK WILL BE A MONEY PIT FOR IT'S OWNERS WHEN THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. I'M SORRY FOR ANYONE THAT HAS BOUGHT ONE OR IS PLANNING ON BUYING ONE BECAUSE YOU'RE IN FOR ONE PROBLEM AFTER ANOTHER WITH THAT BLUE TEC EMISSIONS SYSTEM. OLDTECH
My MIL light came on and stayed on at 16,000 miles. It is past the 12,000mi/12 month lemon Law in my State. My truck is in its 3rd week at the Dealer. It is on a National Backorder for the Turbo speed sensor. I bought the Truck new in Sept 07 and I am very disappointed with the MPG. My previous CTD got great MPG both towing and commuting. The MIL "on" I have had problems for 5 weeks now. Turbo boost low sensor, and then speed sensor. They replaced O2 sensor and reflashed. Installed a carbon clean out pipe. I have my "FILE" opened at Chryler and factory tech is at dealer now. Today they borrowed part from a NEW TRUCK to run a test! Basically I would suggest you GET YOUR MONEY BACK ASAP! Check your NADAGUIDES for the CTD and non-CTD Truck TMV. You'll be shocked!
My previous post I listed NADAGUIDES. It is www.nadaguides.com. If you compare 3 engines offered in the 2007 3500 in the used car listing you will see 3 prices. The 5.7 hemi=$1,000.00, then 6.7 CTD=$500.00, or 5.9L HO CTD=$6,600.00. The 6.7L CTD was announced 24 Jan 2007 and shipped about Mid March, so you could have 2007 CTD with the 5.9L CTD. The 5.9L was fantastic! TMV is indicating that the 6.7L CTD is worthless. If in doubt check it out, yourself!
Does any body know what differences there are between the 05 and 06 ram 2500 diesels? Is the body any different, the only thing I can see is wood paneling in the interior.
IF YOU'VE HAD CHRONIC CHECK ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEMS AND YOU ARE BEYOND LEMON LAW LIMITS YOU CAN STILL FILE FOR ARBITRATION. THE ARBITRATOR WILL HEAR YOURS AND DODGES CASES AND CAN MAKE THE DECISION FOR DODGE TO REPURCHASE YOUR TRUCK AND IF THAT DOESN'T WORK YOU CAN STILL SUE DODGE. MY ADVISE IS TO GET OUT OF THAT TRUCK WHILE YOU CAN, ANY WAY YOU CAN.
I HAVE A 2004 DODGE RAM CUMMINS THE TRUCK WILL RUN FINE AND THEN AFTER A FEW DAYS OF DRIVING TO WORK IT WILL DIE SOMETIMES WHILE I AM DRIVING A BOUT 25 MPH AND SOMETIMES I AM IN PARK AND THE TRUCK IN IDOLING, IF I WAIT A FEW MIN THE TRUCK WILL START BACK, , I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE LIFT PUMP WICH IS IN THE TANK. ALSO THE CODE IT THROWS IS P0191 NOT SURE WHAT THAT IS. LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS AT ALL.
I had bought a new dodge ram 2500 6.7l last july 07. I never had anyproblems until this last march/april of this year. I am experiancing the build up of carbon and soot in the turbo. This problem for me started when the dealer update the emissions in the computer, part of the recall. Since these problems have occured my truck has been in the shop about 5 times now for cleaning of the turbo, and a few more updates to the computer. I have filed for lemon law. Had a date with one of there engineers this past july, they told me the truck was running great. Couple weeks past and the check engine light comes back on, take it back to dealer, yes it pulled a code for the turbo being clogged again. There advice for me was to drive it like I stole it. I have been trying to do that, I thought all along since day 1. I haul a 11000 lbs. trailer for my business, I run the highway few times a week 90 miles each way. I just don't understand why I have problems still. Not to mention that I go through hard starting quite often too, they have relplace the radio, and speakers in the truck. Also tightened down the battery terminals and painted them too. I have also noticed a lost of power in the truck since all this has started to. I noticed this when I have my trailer hooked up, I used to beable to spin my tires, or at least get a chirp out of them. Not any more! I not sure what to do with this truck yet, its been a great truck, the dealer I goto have been dealing with the issuse very well.
Thanks for listening, any advice? besides a stick of dynomite!
Get rid of it as quickly as you can!!!! All I keep reading and hearing about FROM EVERYONE is what TRASH the new Cummins "BlueTec" junk 6.7L is! Get an older Dodge with the 5.9L CTD, and you'll never be happier! You will be sorry if you keep your 6.7L truck, that's a given. I recommend doing whatever you can to get Dodge to buy it back, even if you have to go as far as sueing them. Good luck!
