Seatle did something the Pats did not.. The defensive line of Seattle gave manning no time to set up or throw. Rushed him all game... Pete Carroll's whole D unit is super fast and that is why even on Mannings 5 yard screen plays lead them nowhere. Denver has not faced a D like that all year.. Seattle's last 4 yrs of defensive draft picks have been superb. Hats off to the Pete Carroll and the Kid QB

Congrats to Seattle Football They deserved to win. Its ashame this superbowl was a stinker!!!

Here in NYC/ NJ area it started to snow at 5am ..We have about 10 inches already.. Thankfully it did not snow game time. That might of neutralize Seattle's great defense..

The way the old NFl set up this system they figured on Champinship games being played on home turf good weather or bad and keeping the superbowls in the domed stadium's or nice climate states so both teams can show off there talents that got them to the big show..

    Cant agree more

Very true, Pats did not get anywhere near Manning. Not did the secondary contain the Broncos receivers as well. Better team won the AFC. Best team won the Super Bowl. And, now, pitchers and catchers! Go Sox!

Well, I made it back to denver just fine. Turns out flying out of philly benefited me this morning!

No - certainly wasn't the game I hoped for, but all the credit in the world to Seattle. If the broncos weren't playing, I'd have been rooting for Seattle. Obviously I would've liked to witness denver winning, but at the very least thought it'd be a good game. Not once was there a time to really cheer on my team, right from the get go.

Regrets on spending the money to go? No, not at all. I had a wonderful one-on-one weekend with my son that will always be remembered. And now he can relate to my childhood experiences of watching lopsided losses by the broncos in Super Bowls! :)

Everything I need, nothing I don't. The closer I get to the end of my lease, the more pot holes I can't avoid, the more snow we get, I'm getting serious about a Subaru as our next car. The XV Crosstrek gets really good reviews & with an MSRP of $23,820 fits the bill of "significantly reducing my vehicular costs."

@breld, glad you made it out OK. I recall you said you were going out early. Probably lucky you did, since as the day went along a ton of flights (more than 1/4 of the ones scheduled for today) ended up getting scrubbed.

Don't blame you on wanting something "durable" I was on a road yesterday that TJC would know (Rt. 30) that was so bad, you couldn't do more than about 10 MPH in the right lane without risking major damage. This is a major, 4 lane road, and a long stretch of it. No chance I go down there again!

That is a big reason I stay away from sport packages and oversized wheels with low profile tires. Not just the stiffer ride, but around here, I want as much sidewall as I can get! 40 series rubber bands just ain't gonna cut it.

For you, the XV has to be too doggy. The outback though, that is a nice package (or a legacy, all the functionality in a sedan with a bit more carlike handling. The Forester is a really nice package though if you want something smaller, even without the turbo motor.

Can you get the XV with a stick? My wife really likes the look of the XV but I've told her that she wouldn't like the way it drives, what with only 148 (?) HP and the CVT transmission.

She asked if there is a 'go fast' version - I told her it was the WRX.

Yeah, you can get the XV with a stick (just the premium (base) model though, not the limited). And get a hatch WRX soon, since the upcoming redesign is 4 door only.

I think the extra ground clearance and extra suspension travel would make the XV Crosstrek ideal for my next ride. I do dig the legacy too and I'm sure the 2.5 motor would be easier to transition to from my BMW's sweet 3.0L Inline 6. The compact design of the Crosstrek are really all I need for commuting purposes. On the days my wife drives it, there's plenty of room in the back for the boys & their high back booster seats. Check out the YouTube review from Motorweek as well as Everyman Driver. The Forester is nice too. I like the previous generation XT with the hood scoop - the ultimate wolf in sheep's clothing. Subarus are known for their resale value - I could always trade up from the "doggy" Crosstrek to the 1/4 horse WRX in a few years;)

@Michaell You can get the XV Crosstrek Premium with a stick. Although I believe you get better mileage with the CVT.

A "base" Turbo Forester (2.0 XT Premium) has an MSRP as built of $28,820. $5K more than the "base" Crosstrek. A Forester 2.5i has the same MSRP as the Crosstrek.

good lease program on the Legacy right now. $189/mo, 36 mos, $1989 due at signing. Crosstrek is 6 mos longer, $60 more per mo, and couple hundred more at onset. Horrible deal in comparison. Forester is a better deal than the crosstrek right now: $239/mo, 36 mos, $1989 due.

That's another thing I'll look at. Since the next car is literally going to be something to get from A to B, if the lease program on the legacy or the Forester is that much better that will weigh heavily on my decision.

Keep in mind that those programs are probably allowing just 12k per year; no idea how Subaru deals with requests for higher mileage leases (you need 18K, right?)

And, what does the $1989 cover? I got my E-GT for $230/mo (3 yr/15K with maintenance) with only first payment due at signing. There was $1100 in cash from Hyundai that took care of all the other inception fees.

Obviously you'll take some test drives when the time comes to decide for yourself, but, consistent with what others are saying, I test drove the XV last year and thought it felt quite underpowered at times. There was one point in the drive where I had taken a left turn into a slight incline and the car really struggled to get up to speed.

In contrast, I recently drove a new Forester before leasing the Passat, and I didn't experience any such issues with the 2.5l. Given the minimal pricing difference, I think the Forester is a much better package.

Me, I'm anxious to see VW's upcoming AllTrak, based on the redesigned Sportwagon. Should be a nice poor man's alternative to the Allroad.

18K? Keep going. Between my BMW & my Prelude, I put about 22,000 miles per year. My wife isn't exactly thrilled with driving the Pilot around all the time so we're actually going to share the new car with a 15K per year lease. I'll drive the new car on Monday, Wednesday, & Saturday to work (195 miles) & she'll drive it to work the other days. When I'm not driving the new car, I'll drive the Pilot or when its nice out and I don't expect too much traffic, I'll take the Prelude. The 15,000 mile per year lease will give us a little over 300 miles per week to split.

    @breld

Welcome back! Thanks for your input regarding the 2 point slow motor in the XV Crosstrek. Given the minimal price delta (and most likely stronger lease program for the Forester), it might be wise for me to check out a Subie with the 2.5.

Can you elaborate a little more on your thoughts of the Forester?

I test drove the Forester that same day I drove the Accord, Passat and Jetta, just to throw in a small SUV in the mix. The dealer was nice enough to just let me take it out on my own, so I was able to go on a nice extended test drive, including some highway driving with some decent inclines. I drove a "Premium" model.

Based on my previous test drives of the Impreza (and XV), I paid close attention to the power, and was very pleased with it. Big difference between that 2.0l and the 2.5l - no problem getting up to speed at a comfortable rate, even climbing some of the hills on my drive.

The CVT was okay - I thought Honda did a better job of it with the Accord, but once I got used to it (mostly the sound) on the Forester test drive, I didn't give it much of a second thought.

I don't recall NVH being an issue, and I did have it up to 70-80 mph on the highway, and I generally pay attention to those kind of things, considering I'm on the highway quite a bit.

Aesthetically, I like the exterior looks of the Forester quite a bit - it still comes off a bit wagon-ish (I mean that as a compliment), but the seating position is high enough to give you a nice commanding view of the road.

Here's my only real knock on the car - the interior design seems to be a generation behind the competitors. Just something about the layout and controls appear outdated to me. It's not even a functionality thing, just the aesthetics.

From what I recall, this Premium model (auto) stickered from around $25k, and I believe could be had for closer to $23k. That model seems to include everything you'd really need, plus a nice pano sunroof. Despite my misgivings on the XV Crosstrek, it does seem to be selling well and, accordingly, commanding less of a discount. Between the two, I think it's a no-brainer for the Forester.

No, I don't have a 195 mile round trip to work. My RT commute is approximately 65 miles. I noticed one of your cars is a 68 Cutlass. That brings back fond memories of my grandmother's 68 S hardtop. She special ordered it. Light silver blue, oyster white interior, 350 2bbl, ac ps pb, tinted glass, jetaway trans. I always was surprised how well that 2 sp jetaway responded. The car felt effortlessly quick. I also remember it got about 11 mpg. It was quiet and rode well. Some idiot t-boned it in 1982. Though she had it repaired it was never the same. Sold in 1996 with 45000 miles. Nice car, enjoy!

What kind of gas mileage do you get with your Pilot? So far our new to us 2010 EX-L is getting about 18 in daily driving, and the best I've seen is 22 on the road. Replaced the Good Year Forterras with Michelin LTXs. Improved ride and reduced noise somewhat, but no change in gas mileage. Regardless the wife is smitten with it. Happy wife is always good.

I walk the dog (soon to be a 2nd dog too , but that's for a different forum :) ), and everyday I pass a previous gen M35 in blue. I like that car ... it looks nice in blue, and it seems very comfortable looking. I've found this used on nearby ... miley, but that doesn't scare me too much as I have a good indie and would have him check it out first. It's a nicely optioned blue 06 M35 with 70K. I think it would be good for longer drives and very comfortable, while still cheap and old enough not to worry about too much. I don't know the proper price for something like this. Thank you! Mine is a "S" holiday coupe too. I bought it in 1993 from the original owner, a little old lady who apparently never married and hardly ever used it. It wasn't all that pristine, though, and suffered from neglect. It only had 35,000 miles on it when I bought it. It was a typical car for the times from around here - Jetaway automatic, PS, PB (drums all around), AM radio, and wheel covers, that's all. It was originally painted Ocean Turquoise, really more medium blue metallic than turquoise, and has a black vinyl interior. I wasn't thrilled with the colors - your grandmothers car sounds much more appealing - so when I had it redone I had the body shop change the paint to Scarlet, the medium red that Olds offered that year and which I thought went better with the black interior. It is a good color but with the passage of time I wish I had kept it in the original shade.

I actually used it as a not-so-daily driver for the first few years I had it - I originally bought it as a beater - but after it was painted it was too nice to drive all the time, so then I began doing things to it. I added Olds Super Stock wheels, white letter tires, converted it to a factory 4-bbl setup with dual exhaust, added a factory cutout rear bumper with the Olds exhaust trumpets, AM-FM, and a factory 8-track. The last few years I have barely driven it but this year I will retire and hope to get back into using it a bit more.

We switched to the Michelins too. Much quieter ride & they'll hopefully last a lot longer. Our good years were shot by 31K miles.

As you know, gas mileage isn't the Pilot's strong suit. According to my fuelly dash board, my wife averages 15.9 mpg. Her best tank was 19.6. There have been some real doozies in there. Last fill up was 13.7.

The space is incredible. We've got plenty of room for our family of 5. The kids usually sit together in the 2nd row. Need to pick up my (almost 97 year old) Grandma? No problem. Flip the 3rd row up, throw the boys' booster seats in the back, & my wife sits in the second row w/ our daughter, Grandma rides shot gun.

It really has a nice, controlled, comfortable ride. It drives great in the snow. The 4WD system is pretty sophisticated.

My wife's major complaint is that there are too many of them. She's literally walked out to the wrong Pilot a few times that was parked just a few spaces away from hers.

took a step today toward needing a car again. Applied for a new job, that if I get will likely mean going back to being an in-office person instead of sitting around the house going loony toony by myself (WFH). So, I would need some transportation of my own.

Not a big deal really, since at least to start it would probably be working back in center city, meaning taking the commuter train, and that station is just about a mile from my house (I walk to it on occasion, but would not do it every day). Company is opening an office out in the Burbs in June that would be about 5 miles away, so hopefully would be able to relo out there to save on commute time and $. Job would even have some travel, so rental cars baby!

My immediate plan for this is to make my son pay for the car. That is, he would have to finally buy himself a new one (and he is really looking at this by the end of the month), so I could just repo the TL that I am already paying for, so to me, a "free" car (actually better than free, since I can drop the kid off the insurance, keeping the car on it).

Now, moving to a burbs job in the summer would be perfect excuse to pull off my plan of selling 2 cars and getting myself something new(er) and more fun, since I would be driving it daily for a decent amount of time.

Now just need to get the job, of course with enough of a raise to pay for the looming college bills for kid #2, with something left over for the wheels!

@Bradd, I know what you mean about common cars. I used to have a silver accord. talk about common. one reason I never fixed the damaged front bumper. made it easier to spot!

Wife and I actually walked up to the wrong RDX recently (and that is much less common). Same color, parked a few spots up the row. I would have gone to the door if I hadn't noticed a license plate frame from a different dealer!

@stickguy, good luck with the job! Oh, and I got to drive the WHP you were talking about earlier. Holy crap, they need to fix it.

Stick, good luck with the new job opportunity. The lengths we go to around here to justify a new car!

Not sure I could ever go back to working in an office - I've been WFH now for 5+ years and love it. It helps that I've got a dedicated home office to work in.

What could possibly take a couple of hours to service on an EV?

Nonetheless, good that you'll have time to wander the lot and see what appeals to you.
