Going in a little while to get a new battery for the Thunderbird, called a few places, only to have it in stock, they don’t sell that battery off and the guy told me. Two other places would have to order it, rather get it today if I can and not have to wait for them to order it till Friday. We’re just gonna bring a battery tester and make sure the new batteries good before we take it home. Type your comment

Figured the Toyota would drive like the Corolla does though drove an IA yesterday and it drove pretty nicely for an economy car. Smaller size like I prefer but no Sirius/XM even though it had a 6 speaker audio system. The more I look online, the more I think Stick's right and if I want something like my VW Golf again, it's gonna have to be either a Hyundai Kona or an Hyundai Elantra GT. Or wait until the local VW stores can find me another Golf SE in a preferable color combo with the Fender or Beats audio system which is a deal breaker as far as I'm concerned. Would even give up a moon/sun roof but nice looking 17" alloys, Sirius/XM and a strong audio system are three things I will not budge on. I like my music on the louder side and want any vehicle to look nice to me and at this point in my life, am willing to pay for it no matter what it costs...within reason, of course. Both the Kona and Elantra GT could fit the bill nicely.

Ha - thanks, Marco. Not likely - we're headed to Hawaii for a week starting Saturday, so even if I can get a lease transfer squared away, that is about as far as it will go.

We have been before - my in-laws have a time share that we go to every other year for a week. We'll be on Maui for this trip for our second time.

It'll be Sam's first trip though and I am none too excited about 6 hours with a 2 year old on an airplane combined with the time change!

Almost 30 years ago, we took our then 4 month old son on a trip from LA to Philadelphia/Atlantic City. That was a long time in the airplane, even though we had a change at DFW.

But, my son, who was born in 1994, became a fan while he was in high school. We've been to see them three times, and even though they are a little older than I am, they were definitely not a nostalgia act. They put on a great show, and now, I'm a bigger fan.

I cannot fully tell from the photo, but often these offroader setups will have a handyman jack mounted in that location, and, with the design of that jack, you can take advantage of the regular holes in the length of the shaft to mount other items (such as fuel cans, ammo boxes, etc). If that is a handyman jack, then it is likely more a matter of convenience in that location (i.e., why buy another mount when this tool is already there?) than any other consideration.

    Wow!

Rebecca and I went once on our honeymoon.  I vividly remember a conversation we had proclaiming “we’ll definitely be back for our 10th anniversary & will try to make it back for our 5th.”  We’ll be celebrating our 15 year anniversary this October.  Haven’t had the pleasure of returning to Hawaii.

My one and only trip to Hawaii was work related. Was lucky enough to bring my fiancé (now wife) with me on frequent flier miles. Stayed an extra day and toured Oahu.

Great memories of that trip, and wonderful hosts.

Well, I'll be darned. I had no idea that the brand name was "hi-lift"! Always heard them called "handyman," and I have never seen one in person that was new enough to have a (readable) label on it. Good to know!

I have one of these that I keep in the bed of the F250. I strongly suspect that it is likely as old (or nearly so) as the truck. Works great, though, as long as I give it a little lube once every year or two.

The history page on their website has some great photos and text. Worth the visit. :)

Ended up going with one of the batteries from AutoZone for the 1961 Ford Thunderbird. Turns out they had multiple different levels to choose from what I kind of figured. The guy on the phone I guess was lazy and only told me about the cheapest $70 one, which the girl even told me I wouldn’t buy that their garbage, I told her I wouldn’t of bought it either myself, when the when the guy told me about it on the phone I thought to myself afterwards too cheap, but buy the cheapest of anything somewhere in the middle. But it’s not to be the most expensive when it comes to batteries or anything in life.

What kind of credit score are they looking for? If you can find out, just tell people up front, "You must have a FICO score of 750 to assume this lease". Most people these days do know their credit score.

But, those who don't know their credit score will probably think it's adequate for a lease assumption and forge ahead because they have nothing to lose, even if they have a history of missed payments, repos, foreclosures, etc...

So me and my dad put it in, got the car started in a minute, you know it’s not a new car that starts right up. Especially after sitting for two months without being started at all which is my bad I’m very good with that.   Normally, was slacking the past two months ha ha Ha. Now to get out in it with my cousin this weekend and drive it. And clean it up. Going Thursday morning with a guy that takes me to shows with him all the time, who I met through an ex coworker where I work, it’s her husband, she’s totally blind and can’t see a little like me, and she has no interest in cars like my self, but her husband does, and he’s a nice cool guy who takes me and never wants money for gas or anything. He’s even willing to drive my car sometimes to Shaws and not take his.
  • marcogallo1986marcogallo1986 Member Posts: 1,164
He’s going to take me Thursday morning to bring the car for the inspection, he knows a guy that he brings his old Chevy truck too. And I have 10 days from the issuing of the plates and registration in New York to get it inspected. Or the temporary registration sticker will be expired I mean the temporary inspection sticker is only good for 10 days. So will have that squared away Thursday morning. The registration is only good for one year though. Not like the new cars two years but it is what it is.

The other issue is that once you take a test drive, the dealers keep bothering you with phone calls and texts which is quite annoying to be honest.

Never had a serious issue there, at worst I've had a single follow up phone call and told them I decided not to buy at the time. (Of course, I can always change my mind on that, an hour later!) The creepiest one I ever had was an email from Honda asking how my test drive was, when I'd never given them my email. I assumed they had used some sort of stalker-ish database to match my driver's license (which the dealer copied) to my email, but it was still as creepy as heck, and I ended up not buying a Honda.

Is it only a six hour flight from the west coast? I'll have to check that out. Hawaii is one of those places I thought I'd like to elope someday, but I'd also be willing to consider a solo trip. Enjoy!

Wow -- this is almost as good as when I was driving down a highway in PA a couple of years ago and went by the Zippo lighter plant.

Those hi-lift jacks are on every serious off-road vehicle here in AZ, and there are a lot of them. Good to know where they come from.

The hi-lift jack is probably one of the few accessories on the 'bro-ed out' Jeeps that would actually get some use. If you have a lift 3 inches or over all the factory jack is useless. On my 07 I had slightly over sized tires and a mild 1.5 in lift and could get by with the factory jack on 2 pieces of 2x4. Anything higher and I would have had to get a bigger jack.

I will miss the Frank Sinatra station when I give up XM. I like some of the other stations, too, but it seems like they’ve replaced commercials with stupid chatter from the DJs. It used to be that XM didn’t do the “morning radio” gimmicks that the terrestrial stations did, but that’s no longer the case.

Have a friend who is a HUGE RUSH fan. He would travel 800 miles and use vacation just to see them play.

Me? Couldn’t quite understand it, and even though one time he offered to buy my ticket if I helped him drive to one of their concerts, I still turned him down.

Something about driving all night to see a band I really didn’t care about, regardless of my misspent youth, just didn’t appeal.

First Rush concert was in 1996 for their Test for Echo tour. From then until their farewell tour I probably went to close to a dozen shows, a few outside of Pittsburgh but none farther than Philadelphia.
Twice in Columbus, once in Cincinnati.
I'm 48 but was a late bloomer to true Rush fandom. Didn't see them for the first time until the R30 tour in '04 (at Radio City Music Hall, with a friend who jetted in from Arizona). Would end up seeing them 4 more times (including once closer to home in NC, with said friend from AZ... she was the real intense Rush fan!), the last time on the R40 tour at the former Kiel Center in St Louis.

Definitely never picked up the "oldies act" vibe from them even on R30 when they had very little new music.
