What happened to your son reminds me of what happened to my Izuzu Opel back on my first day of work at the post office. Had orientation in West Palm Beach as I was living in Boca Raton and the carrier position was also in Boca. Getting onto I-95 at Palm Beach Lakes Blvd., accelerate but car starts to lurch and then I hear pieces of metal fall off the engine, all the while I'm losing speed. Pull over to the side of the road and the car stops dead! Turns out the auto tranny imploded and cost me, or the bank of dad, $500 at Aamco to fix. As if I wasn't stressed out enough, it was the first day of orientation!
This happened on December 27th of 1980 and in early February, a front axle died so after that repair, again with a loan through the bank of dad, got rid of that death trap! Since the bank of dad closed it's doors right about then, took out a $2500 bank loan on a slightly used 1979 Datsun B-210 hatchback, an ex-rental it turned out. But had no choice as I needed reliable wheels and since I had a steady paycheck by then, all was good. And the funny part is, that steady paycheck is still coming in monthly in the form of my civil service pension.
Bank of Dad always had the best of rates but when we built our house we had to combine BOD loans with some from the GI (Generous In-law) program.😂

@nyccarguy, It's bad to not drive any car but I don't think this one will ever get driven other than onto the car carrier and back off. Auction closes after 5pm tomorrow. I'll be watching.

That's just it.. it will never be driven.
Give me a 75K mile example for $125K (or, just give it to me)
24/7.5 - 47K MSRP - $354 effective not counting $599 broker fee (12k in incentives and 8.5% discount)
Would I be a bad son if I threw my mother in one of these (her Murano is ending in April)? I haven’t researched them much but assuming they are selling at all.

It’s not completely unattractive but yes, my understanding is they are not moving. At all.
Hybrid so good mpgs, CUV so she’d have the higher seating positions she’s probably used to. It would be the frugal choice.

Is this an east coast broker? I ask because my brother is wanting to get a CUV/SUV/truck to replace his Elantra. He's also trying to save for a house so he's prioritizing payment over pretty much everything else. Mileage might not even be an issue once his company completes their relocation next month.

I was shocked that our city vehicles are Hornets. They look like a much more expensive vehicle. No idea about handling, noise etc but they look like a European vehicle
The hornet deals look great IF you qualify for all the incentives. I am pretty sure my last Jeep was more than a year ago, so I would not get the $2k loyalty, even though I currently own 2 Dodges and a Fiat.

They are not selling at all. Overpriced and I also hear they are problematic. Perhaps on a cheap and relatively short lease they would not be bad. They seem rather small just from looking at them from a distance.
I wouldn’t expect anything with Alfa DNA not to be problematic. If memory serves, we had two members here who leased Stelvios and unceremoniously dumped them in short order.
Was it Car and Driver who reviewed the Hornet R/T and, when looking at the MSRP, wondered if that included $20k cash in the trunk? Not a bad SUV, but the extra $$$ for the PHEV over the GT trim was deemed not worth it.
From a British car (former) owner, I'm still leery of Italian (Alfa, although I've heard rumor that the QC has well improved since ~2020. Was thinking of a Giulia to replace the A7, but struggling (no dealers within 50-60 miles) to really consider it, given the Stelvio experiences here.

So, helping a coworker buy a BMW i5. Closest BMW dealer is relatively newly opened and I’ve opened a dialogue with them. Immediately the sales manager responds and, me being me, I recognized the name. Had a terrible experience with this person about 10 years ago when they were selling Mazda - lied, wasted my time, etc.
Do I give them the benefit of the doubt that they’ve grown up and learned? Or steer my friend to another store?

weird that I don't recall this at all. What was your color combo? How long did you have it? I assume, if we got them so close, you took advantage of the great lease deal at the time. How did you unload yours? Mine went to Vroom, IIRC.

The 993 was cool, but was it that much better than it’s competitors from the day? How does that not make this look like a bargain-

Road test reviews have not been kind to the hornet. After a rav she might find it noisy and rough.
I have never driven one but if I needed a cheaper beater/winter/spare car that would be a deal worth looking at

Yes - east cost broker. I’ve used them twice
Miles aren’t an issue 7500 would be fine if she was nervous going to 10k wouldn’t be too much of a jump in payment
She is coming from a Murano with the V6. This may feel like a downgrade despite having a higher MSRP and equipment.
