Are those tires still on there? :)

The new Vredestein tires have about 3k miles on them, so yeah, I'm holding onto those a little longer. lol

The old oem Hankook tires still had about 5-7k miles of legal tread left. Probably 85-90% highway driving. The dealership tried to get me to buy a new set from them. Average tires.

So far you are the closest to winning that free backrub from jmonroe. I'll anounce the winner tomorrow morning.

I only listed my car on my hoa website... thus far. A mechanic asked about the cars "issues", when told said the motor mount part was hard to find. Said he'd check with his wife and get back with me. A lady texted and asked for more details. When I gave her more details, she said the price sounded fair, and she'd like to come test drive the car and buy it Friday or Saturday. Has to wait to get a ride from a friend. Sounds like a payment buyer? There is no "First National Bank of Jipster" though. Cash or certified check for that lovely beater.

Edit: The lady just texted she'd like to come see the car tomorrow at 1 or 2p.m. So, it's possible I may have underpriced the car a bit." alt="" height="20" />

Luckily, my 2024 G90 came with 21” Michelin Primacy Tour A/S tires. Unfortunately they are staggered sizes - fronts/rears are different sizes. I had them installed on the 2021 G90 and they were the best tires I have ever driven on in terms of stability, cornering and great performance on slick rain soaked road surfaces.

Those are excellent premium touring tires. I worried over picking them or the Defender2 touring tires.
The Primacy Tourings came on DIL's MachE Ford that she got recently.

@abacomike - If you want to, you should be able to have the staggered tires rotated side to side on the same axle, if they aren't directional treads.

Yes, Corvette. That’s what my service department did last month when I had my oil and filter changed. Definitely helps with wear and tear. They also did a 4 wheel alignment - I have rear wheel steering as well as AWD.

Watched one of those J&S Auto Haus YouTube vids last night. I had to shake my head.

The guy who does most of the vids announced they wanted to help people who are struggling financially to get into a car. Sounds like BHPH, but whatever. He said he wanted to help anyone who has been turned down for credit get into a NEW Mitsubishi Outlander. Must be a lot of manufacturer money on those to buy down the interest rate for bad credit, or maybe very long term loan.

Either way, he made it clear to his sales force he wanted to talk to those in need.

What did he get? One guy had a Civic that had 3 blown engines and the "kid" was upside down on it. Instead of trying to dig himself out, he said he wanted a BMW M340 instead.

Either I'm getting persnickety, or just tired of the people who "want to make a bad situation worse"!

One guy who was really upside down on his trade said he wouldn't even look at a Mitsubishi. Beggars can't be choosers.

    Cheesh.

We had a few nitwits at BMW who would mile up a lease and then roll it into another lease. A fool and his money...

Well, surprise, I'm only asking $1,450 for the 2007 Kia Optima LX. Quite a bit lower than the figures suggested yesterday. Looks like @stickguy wins the big prize with a guess of $2,000. Congratulations... or condolences depending on how you look at it. Given market conditions, and the overall condition of the car, seems fair. Price is negotiable, but I've packed a rather large lunch.

My wife goes to a hospital facility that has a gym and pool, etc... 5 days a week.
There are a bunch of women from the neighborhood that also go there pretty much every day.
If we go away for a few days she gets questions like "Is everything OK, we haven't seen you for a few days".
Today my wife said someone asked her do you live at xx649? She said "Yes".
That's the house with the red truck? "Yes it's a recent addition."
You have a white dog? "Not really, it's a granddog that comes over regularly."
It feels like the KGB is on a fishing expedition.
I guess a red truck stands out in a sea of black/gray/white and the dog is pretty.

Maybe it was the KGB. I told you to always use cash.😂

Assuming (I use the term with extreme caution) the cost of an imported car/SUV increases by a specific tariff imposition, would that result in an increase in the value of preowned vehicles of the same model and manufacturer?

As an example, would a Mercedes Benz manufactured in Germany and then exported to the US increase the value of the same imported “used” vehicle for sale here in the US? If so, by how much of an increase?

    Just curious!

In general, if new car prices go up, it will definitely push up used car values, as well. Figuring which specific used make/models that will affect is a harder job.

It’s obvious that increased pricing on vehicles not produced in the US will drive (no pun intended) buyers toward US manufactured vehicles for obvious reasons. However, there are many foreign branded vehicles produced in the US now such as some BMW SUV’s, Mercedes SUV’s, various Honda, Toyota and Korean models, to name a few.

Increased prices on new imported vehicles are expected to begin sometime next month. It’s going to be interesting to watch and see how long this will continue with pressures on foreign manufacturers. If anything, US manufactured vehicles could see increased sales for a time, depending on a myriad of variables.

I don't think you can find even a US-assembled domestic nameplate model that doesn't have at least 20% imported parts.

Also, if the competition has to raise their prices, then you can be sure that even a vehicle that isn't subject to tariffs will have their price go up, as well.

    Excellent point!

Regarding used car prices, all of this turmoil is happening just as 3 year old leases are starting to be returned.

But, if you remember, 2022 was the year where not as many cars were sold, and an even fewer percentage of sales were leases. Meaning there are going to be a LOT fewer lease returns, which will make the value of them go up.

    Swell.

Depends on the codes. In NY you couldn’t get it inspected with a CEL lit up. I had a CEL evap code on my PT Cruiser that I just couldn’t fix. Turned out to be a rusted out fuel tank. Expensive repair relative to the value of the car. Even a $1000 repair on Jipster’s hooptie might be too much.

At least dad is a mechanic, that should help with repair costs.

EDIT: I see the code was only for O2 sensor. Hopefully that doesn’t mean a bad catalytic converter.

I have read conflicting accounts as to how they will be calculated since for a lot of vehicles some components are domestically produced and attract zero tariff while others are tariffed just on the cost of that component (I.e. an imported engine) which increases its cost and hence the cost of the vehicle. That figure would normally be marked up by the manufacturer when it is sold to the dealer and then marked up when sold to a customer. It seems a different thing to me than an excise tax, being more of an input cost.

You are going to start seeing a lot more former rentals on dealer lots. We have been pulling a ton of cars out of service to sell. Some only have low 20k mileage. The company must keep a close eye on developing trends and figures the time is right to shed inventory. We also are bringing in a lot of new cars. Perhaps they are getting a good deal on cars now and are loading up for the future.

The E400 is 8 years old (50k miles) and MrsD100s GLK is 10 years old (30000 miles).
I was thinking they just need an oil change this year so I might try an indie garage which worked quite well with the Florida car. Then I thought, the MB dealer is closer, they want me as a customer so they get me in asap if I have a problem, maybe they will give me more for them as trade-ins one day if we have all our servicing done by the dealer. Their service has always been reasonable, and the coffee, soup and sandwiches are good...plus wi-fi etc.
I made the appointments, and they mentioned they would need the car for most of the day because there was a free major software update they wanted to do on the E400.
So, my question is....if I had gone to the indie garage, would they have told me about the update, and would they have done the update or would I miss getting it done? Also, it is nice that since it is a long visit they will shuttle me home and back.

Unless the indie shop has the proprietary Mercedes diagnostic equipment and software (Xentry) it is doubtful that they would even know an update is available- never mind being able to install it.
