MSRP $68345 + $1595 wear and tear service plan Discount $7740 (plus $3000 rebate for total of $10740) Doc fee $80, Acquisition fee $925, License $476 Net cap cost $61596.82
Walk off $8600 includes $3000 rebate which covers (1st payment $758.17, upfront chargers $1638.65, cap reduction $603.18) and 7 MSD's at $5600.
Monthly payment $758.17 incl 8% tax. Without wear & tear service plan, appx $40 less ~$718. (Tier 1 is appx $20 less)
1. I see that they added $603.18 in cap reduction to fully deplete the $3000 rebate upfront. Is this correct? 2. Is the $1595 wear and tear service plan worth purchasing? We will mainly use the car to haul our large dogs, but the warranty only covers "minor scratches" up to 4-6" per the salesperson.

I get the same payment, to the penny.
However, the marked up MF (base MF is .00138, after MSD .00089) is adding over $20/mo to the payment.
Wear and tear package is a good deal .. for the dealer. If you take decent care of your car, there really shouldn't be any end of lease charges.

The marked up MF @ .00158 / MSD .00109 is due to tier 2 "standard" credit. They couldn't bump me up to tier 1, which would, like you said, cost $20 less a month at $698 tax in.
Local dealers are trying their best to clear 40e inventory, I'm guessing to make room for the '17s. The lowest advertised so far was $519+tax for a base 40e with $5k drive off ($3500 cash down + fees).
Hi Moderators - I'm looking at leasing a "CPO Elite" BMW X5 35d and hoping you can explain (or verify) how the lease is calculated. Details:
- 2015 X5 35d (loaded) - 15,000 miles - still on MSO (was a company/exec car) - cap cost would be $52,500 - looking to do a 12K /36 month lease. - MSRP was approx $78,000
My understanding is that, on a CPO Elite lease, the lease is calculated like a new vehicle (since it is still on MSO, with an additional mileage adjustment).
Can you confirm or clarify how the lease would be calculated? Thanks!

I don't know if that unit qualifies for the new car lease program. I would guess that it does.
If it does, then .00138 MF and 51% residual, with a mileage reduction. Most likely, the reduction is $0.25/mi, though it could be higher with that MSRP. ($3750 reduction).
If those are the numbers, then $579/mo.+tax, assuming all other costs are paid upfront.

The numbers are correct, assuming a 9% tax rate applied to the monthly payment.
What state / county / city is this? That will help unravel the tax situation.
I'm pretty sure the dealer will tell you the quote includes the $1K credit.
This is for California. Los Angeles County in particular and city is Monrovia. I have A++ credit. Do you think I have any room to negotiate that MF down? Do you know if July will have a more favorable MF and residual?

Btw, 9% is the tax rate that is being used for calculation.
The total sales tax line is for informational purposes. Just to note the total amount of tax paid. It's not a separate line item that you are paying.
The $925 acquisition fee is part of your drive-off. It's also a taxable item, and that's where the acq.fee tax comes from (also part of your drive-off).
As mentioned, the adjusted CAP cost probably already includes the $1000.
.00138 is the base MF.

.00137 MF and 57% residual for 36/15. The extra 9000 miles would reduce the residual a further $2250-$2700.
Would need to know your state and tax rate to calculate a payment.
Also, wouldn't recommend putting $6K upfront on a lease.

Yes.. 15K/yr instead of 18K/yr would lower the payment by about $75/mo.+tax.
Found a new 2016 X5 40e greatly discounted- MSRP @ $73K - advertised at $64.xxx. Called dealer and they said the listed price includes the $3500 July lease cash if leasing but is also the cash price. Does that make sense? It seems you would save an additional $4600 (Fed Tax credit) if you were to purchase making the cash price crazy low (~18% off MSRP). I asked for more clarification and waiting to hear back....

Nope.. doesn't make much sense to me. I only see the $3500 as a lease credit, but maybe they have a dealer incentive on purchases, that we don't know about.
So - some rough calculation on leasing a 2017 vs 2016 X5 40e. I'm trying to decide on a leftover 2016 or an ordered 2017. If my calculations are correct I need to wait for the 2017's to come way down (residuals up and lease cash added) or skip the CarPlay and find a 16' with the options I want!
Assumptions: - 36/10 - 7 MSD's to get rate at 0.00086 (2.06%) - $60.5K price after discounts but before any lease cash - Tax rate @ 9%
MY 2016 (July 2016 program) - Residual= 60% - Lease cash = $3500. - Monthly lease = $528 before tax ($576 after tax) - MSD total = $3696 - First month, DMV + fees = $2500? - Total Drive off = $6196
MY 2017 (July 2016 program) - Residual= 57% - Lease cash = none (BMW keeps all the $4660 Fed tax credit) - Monthly lease = $685 before tax ($747 after tax) - MSD total = $4795 - First month, DMV + fees = $2500? - Total Drive off = $7295.
Mod - can you check my math? MSD's will be different but since that money is returned and only $1000 it's not a huge factor.

Residual is a percentage of MSRP, and I don't see that number mentioned in the calculations. Money factor after MSDs is .00088, not .00086. Each SD is the post-tax payment rounded up to the next $50 increment. So, if payments are correct, then the MSDs are $4200 or $5250, respectively.
I don't see any details anywhere online about this $3500 lease cash that keeps getting mentioned. Is this something that is a direct discount to buyers or is this a BMW to dealer incentive. I have negotiated my car to invoice and trying to determine if and how i can work in this $3500 but i need to understand it a little better. Also any other incentives or rebates? I can't seem to find anything online so does not look like it. Thanks

BMW is giving back only part of the Federal Tax credit in the past few months ($3500 for July 16). The total credit is ~ $4485. - which is available if you purchase the 40e. My understanding is there is no lease credit at all right now on the 2017 40e's as they are trying to clear them out.
Sorry. Meant to say acquisition fee. Can that be negotiated? Also they are willing to pay my last two payments of $585. Any thoughts if this deal can be improved?
Sorry. Meant to say acquisition fee. Can that be negotiated? Also they are willing to pay my last two payments of $585. Any thoughts if this deal can be improved?
The acquisition fee is $925. Not negotiable. Looks like the upfront fees are definitely title/license/registration.
I'm not sure you can do any better, but I wouldn't want to pay $4600 upfront... Just first payment and the $563.96 of government fees. I'd roll the taxes, dealer fee and acquisition fee all into the lease.
That makes the payment $765/mo., with just $1329 due at signing.
Sorry. Meant to say acquisition fee. Can that be negotiated? Also they are willing to pay my last two payments of $585. Any thoughts if this deal can be improved?
I think you can do better than 63,xxx, but with not too bad with them paying last two payments on current car. That's 8.5% off list - no more 2016's being built and last I checked there were over 1100 40e's on Cars.com.
Definitely get them to go down to the BMWFS advertised MF of .00137 and then use MSD's to get the MF down even more. With an MF of .0088 (after 7 Multiple Security Deposits) you should be at about $595 + tax per month (If my math is correct).
First Month $647 includes tax (8.75%) Down = 0 MSD's = $4550 Registration and fees = $603 Acquisition fee $925. Total Drive off = $6813. (but you get back your MSD's at lease end)
Sorry. Meant to say acquisition fee. Can that be negotiated? Also they are willing to pay my last two payments of $585. Any thoughts if this deal can be improved?
Why don't you work on the MF. If you are tier one, it should be .00137.
After rechecking the tax (which was wrong), the dealer revised it for NYS tax rate of 8.875%. He lowered the monthly to $652.56 but the tax is now $2,512.18 (which equates to $786.28 monthly lease)!
I compared his $652.56 with my calculations breaking down to: $494.08 depreciation & $158.48 lease fee (using MF of .00157).
How sales tax is applied in New York In the Empire State, you pay sales tax up front in cash — or roll it into the financed lease, which means you pay finance charges on top of an already hefty sales tax.
Sales tax is computed on the sum of all lease payments at the usual rate in the county. Additionally, sales tax applies to any down payment, the lease acquisition fee, documentation fees, warranty fees, maintenance fees (if charged), transportation and destinations fees, dealer advertising fees, dealer prep fees — literally everything in the lease contract. Furthermore, taxes are charged on any manufacturer rebates, bonuses, or other incentives.
To add insult to injury, NY sales taxes also apply to any lease-end fees, if any, such as a disposition fee, excessive mileage charges, excessive wear-and-tear fees, purchase option fee, and lease transfer fees.
The only fees not subject to tax in NY are those official fees that are already a form of tax, such as DMV tag, registration, and title fees.
Summary New York has never been a particularly lease-friendly state, even beyond its tax laws. Some may remember the outrageous “vicarious liability” laws of several years ago that caused car leasing companies to charge ridiculously high acquisition fees or simply stop leasing in the state altogether. The law has since been overturned, but some lease companies continued to charge high fees. Anyone planning to lease in New York should take extra care to examine fees and taxes being charged by their dealer.
I'm looking at leasing a 2016 X5 5.0 with an MSRP of $84,695. Would you please let me know the MF and residual for a 36/10 lease and a 48/10 lease? Thanks in advance!

Please chime in on this X5 40e deal, based in SoCal, thanks!
X5 40e @ 10k/36 , 59% residual
MF tier 2 .00109 after 7 MSD's (original .00158)
MSRP $68345 + $1595 wear and tear service plan
Discount $7740 (plus $3000 rebate for total of $10740)
Doc fee $80, Acquisition fee $925, License $476
Net cap cost $61596.82
Thanks in advance!
However, the marked up MF (base MF is .00138, after MSD .00089) is adding over $20/mo to the payment.

Assumptions:
- 36/10
- 7 MSD's to get rate at 0.00086 (2.06%)
- $60.5K price after discounts but before any lease cash
- Tax rate @ 9%
MY 2016 (July 2016 program)
- Residual= 60%
- Lease cash = $3500.
- Monthly lease = $528 before tax ($576 after tax)
- MSD total = $3696
- First month, DMV + fees = $2500?
- Total Drive off = $6196
MY 2017 (July 2016 program)
- Residual= 57%
- Lease cash = none (BMW keeps all the $4660 Fed tax credit)
- Monthly lease = $685 before tax ($747 after tax)
- MSD total = $4795
- First month, DMV + fees = $2500?
- Total Drive off = $7295.
Mod - can you check my math? MSD's will be different but since that money is returned and only $1000 it's not a huge factor.
Money factor after MSDs is .00088, not .00086.
Each SD is the post-tax payment rounded up to the next $50 increment.
So, if payments are correct, then the MSDs are $4200 or $5250, respectively.
Can't check the payments without the MSRPs.

MSRP WAG was $68400. with ~ an 11.5% discount = $60,500.
Seems it's over $6000 more to lease a 2017 - all things the same - definitely some assumptions as you won't get a 11.5% discount on a 2017

Received an offer for an X5 xDrive40e. Details below:
MSRP: $69,295
60% residual - 36 months / 10K
Selling Price: $63,363.97
Net Cap Cost after $3500 lease credit: $59,863.97
MF: .00157 (its a bit high)
Doc Fee: $389
Disposition:$925
Monthly is $667.23 with total of $4563.59 due at signing ($667.23 + $2,018.40 tax + fees).
There is an upfront fee of $563.96. This might be the bank and dmv fee as there are no mention of those fees on the quote.
MF is a bit high. Have attached the quote.
Is this a good deal? Currently leasing a 2013 Infiniti M37x with 2 months left and was wondering if there are any pull ahead deals as well.
And, the bank fee is $925; don't know what the BMW disposition fee is.

Definitely get them to go down to the BMWFS advertised MF of .00137 and then use MSD's to get the MF down even more. With an MF of .0088 (after 7 Multiple Security Deposits) you should be at about $595 + tax per month (If my math is correct).
First Month $647 includes tax (8.75%)
Down = 0
MSD's = $4550
Registration and fees = $603
Acquisition fee $925.
Total Drive off = $6813. (but you get back your MSD's at lease end)
I compared his $652.56 with my calculations breaking down to: $494.08 depreciation & $158.48 lease fee (using MF of .00157).
Is the tax correct?
How sales tax is applied in New York
In the Empire State, you pay sales tax up front in cash — or roll it into the financed lease, which means you pay finance charges on top of an already hefty sales tax.
Summary
New York has never been a particularly lease-friendly state, even beyond its tax laws.
48 month residuals, frankly, aren't worth mentioning.
