Seems like a pretty good deal to me (in NY) - any thoughts? Maybe I can try to roll the acq fee into the payment.

Thank you. Sorry for some of these questions. So i should be getting a MF of .00152 for this month? The dealer is marking up the MF? Is this something I can ask to reduce on there end from what they gave me to the .00152?

Politely tell them you won't sign a deal where the MF has been inflated; they know what the base rate is.

That's pretty good. I would roll the acquistion fee in.
And, ask for a bigger discount... just to see what happens.

Also, the tax is calculated and paid upfront, then added to the CAP cost. That will slightly change the calculations, though not by much.

Thanks! Based on what you're saying, it seems the math would work more like the following (as you said, minor difference):

Also, I used the MSRP that reflects MSRP + addons ("net total"), even though there is a "total suggested price" that is $1k higher ($46,545). I figured the former is the more accurate view.

The MSRP to use for the lease calculations is the bottom line number of the factory window sticker.

Thanks, so if I have a pricing sheet as follows:

The MSRP would be the $46.5k, not the $45.5k?

$46,545.. That's the number including the destination fee. Not sure why they wouldn't just list it.

15,000 miles is the highest mileage allowance - extra miles would be deducted on a per mile basis.

Check with your dealer for details.

The residual is reduced by the extra mileage charge. If it's $0.20/mile, then an extra 7500 miles would reduce the residual by $1500. So, basically, you are paying as you go, as the lower residual will increase the payment by a similar amount.

If you live in Chicago proper, you are paying double sales tax - once for the state, and again for the city. About 17% total.

How many miles does the car have on it? The residual value depends on that. The base 36/10 residual is 64%.

You may be able to get a bigger discount from sticker, because of the miles.

    Residual will be 64% - 4% - (8900 * .25)

    With an MSRP of $45,995, that works out to (27,597 - (8900 * .25)) = 25,372

So, I did my best to replicate the breakdown sheet used above. I hope I did it correctly.

    Here's my calculations on a new black X3 (Option 1 of 2)

    MSRP 51,145.00
    Miles/yr 12k
    Residual 63%
    Residual Total 32,221.35

    Cap Cost 44,933.00
    Discount from MSRP 6,212.00
    Percentage Discount 12.15%

    Monthly Payment
    Cap Cost 44,933.00
    Residual 32,221.35
    Depreciation 12,711.65
    Term 36
    Depr per month 353.10

    Net cap + residual 77,154.35
Money Factor 0.00162 (dealer provided me this)
    Money Factor payment portion 124.99
Dep + money factor (monthly payment) 478.09
Sales tax 1.07275 (NJ .6875 plus .4 lux, which the dealer offer sheet notes)
    Monthly Payment including tax $512.87

I have 5 payments left on my current lease, 3 of which will be waived, 2 of which I am still on the hook for, and that totals $1021. If you divide that by 36 months, it's $28.36 per month, which brings the adjusted total to $541.23.

The offer sheet from the dealer (which I pulled some info from for the calculatiions) shows:
    MSRP: 51145
    Dealer discount and rebate: 6212
    Vehicle Price: 44933

    1700 down - 569.48
    2700 down - 539.13

So all in, total all in cost is $21632 at $1700 down. I assume the $1700 is the tags, acquisition, and whatever other random BS they build into that.
    -----
    (Option 2 of 2)

Having said all that, another dealer is offering me the option to lease a demo silver X3 with a higher original MSRP (more options). I did not get the money factor from them, but I assumed they are both using .00162.

    MSRP 53,995.00
    Miles/yr 12k
    Residual 63%
    Residual Value 34,016.85

    Cap Cost 47,700.00
    Discount from MSRP 6,295.00
Percentage Discount 11.66% (interestingly enough, the discount percentage is smaller on the 3300 mile demo than it is on the new one)

    Monthly Payment
    Cap Cost 47,700.00
    Residual 34,016.85
    Depreciation 13,683.15
    Term 36
    Depr per month 380.09
    Net cap + residual 81,716.85
    Money Factor 0.00162
    Money Factor payment portion 132.38
Dep + money factor (monthly payment) 512.47
    Sales tax 1.07275
    Monthly Payment including tax 549.75

In this case, the dealer sheet shows me 2000 down, 548.45 a month. Total cost of $21195.75

    -----

What do you think? Do these numbers look good or am I getting taken for a ride? Should I be saving more on the 3300 mile demo? Which deal looks better? Interestingly, the dealer with the new black X3 showing a 2500 rebate, while the dealer with the demo silver X3 showing 1000 rebate. Trickery?

All your help is very much appreciated. Probably making a decision this week. Thank you!

The calculations in your first example are correct. However, the base MF is actually .00152. The bump adds about $8/mo. to the payment.

On the demo, the residual has to be reduced to account for the current mileage. 3300 miles X $0.25/mi. = $825 lower residual. So, you'll have to re-calculate using that number.

But, don't guess on the adjusted CAP and the money due upfront. Ask for the exact adjusted CAP and an itemization of all amounts.

I bought a 2017 service loaner last month.. MSRP $54,295, 4400 miles, and my selling price was 15% off MSRP. So, bargain hard. (this was 15% off, the subtract another $2500 in rebates)

Rebates? There is definitely $1000 on every X3 purchase or lease. I got another $1500 in "X3 loyalty" because we owned an X3, for $2500 total. But, that was September.. no idea what it is for October.

I think what I'll do is go back to the original deal, the black X3, make sure my MF is down to .00152 (my credit is more than sufficient), and try to get it for 1700 down, $549/mo. Right now, the quote is 1700 down, $569.48/mo. If they bring my MF down to that, there's $8 right there, and they can kick in the other $12, and out the door I go.

Do you think that's a good deal? 12% off of MSRP (incentives I am sure are part of it), but there is $1021 rolled in from my current lease too to account for in this whole thing.

I this a good deal? I still have not mentioned to dealer that they need to apply $1500 loyalty rebate. The money down will be just 1st month, tax, title, acquisition fee. It will be around $1200 (falls between his $1,000 and $2,000 figure). Also, how much should $1500 off form loyalty drop the lease?

We suggest you add the acquisition fee into the lease payment.

    .00152 and 64% for 36/10

Get the adjusted cap cost from the dealer; this should clarify things.

    Is this an AutoNation dealer?
I will ask them, and I am not sure what an AutoNation dealer is but I do not think so.

I will ask about acquisition fee into lease payment and also about adjusted capital cost. How much should the $1500 Loyalty rebate take off any lease payment on avg?

With your numbers, I get $670/mo, assuming 6.35% sales tax. That's about $500 difference in the cap cost.

I will ask them how they are getting to the monthly payment.

Do you think I could do better % off msrp on the selling price?

That's 5% off MSRP. I would shoot for 7%-8%, this late in the model year.

They do, but the terms are extremely unfavorable.

Can you hold off and reduce or eliminate the negative equity?

I could but I would think that the longer I have the car the less the dealer would pay and I would still have the large gap. I’m selling a 2012 GLK in fair conditin but the neg equity is quite high.

Eventually, the rate of depreciation will slow, while the loan balance will steadily decrease, which will close the gap on the negative equity.

Looking at a 2017 BMW X3 Xdrive lease 36/10. Car was a loaner and has 4800 miles - Quoting $37,900 - Original base sticker $43,900. Dealer is quoting $1500 down and $435/mo including taxes. Located in 94520.

We would be turning in a 2015 X1 lease 5 months early.

I'm new to this so looking for help if this is a good deal or what questions I should ask the dealer at this point to get more information. Thanks in advance.

    1. What is happening with the 5 remaining payments?
    2. .00152 and 64%, less $1200 for the loaner miles
    3. Ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost

    1. BMW has indicated that they will cover 3 of the remaining 5 payments, but I believe I can get them to cover all 5 during upcoming negotiations at the dealership.
    2. How is the $1200 for the loaner miles applied? (is that reduced from the residual value?)
    3. The adjusted cap cost was provided at $36,895.

    1. Good luck
    2. Yes, the $1200 is reduced from the calculated residual.

What is the breakdown of the $1500 due at signing?

Is this a good deal? This is a loaner with about 4000 miles on it.

    MSRP: 54295
    Discount: 5995
    Selling Price: 48300
    Doc Fee 199
    Acquisition: 925
    Cap Cost 49425.25
    MF .00152
    RV 62%
    7% taxes

they gave me a payment plus taxes of 630 but when I calculate this i am getting closer to 600

Also, should I be asking for a bigger discount on this?

    Thanks!
