    36/10.5 on the 2017 Sport is 55% and .25

Using the MSRP and calculate the adjusted cap cost as: selling price + tax + capped fee, I get a payment of $495/mo.

Ask the dealer what cap cost they are using to get the $539/mo payment. Might be something hidden in there - acquisition fee, perhaps?

Thanks Michael. Just to clarify this a true 0 down lease. It's possible the dealer is hiding something or calculated the taxes wrong. I have sent a follow up email(apart from the worksheet that I pasted above). Can you clarify if the 2250 lease cash applies to the sport? here is what he sent in the email

    Vehicle Price: $46,000.00
    Dealer Savings: - $2,845.00
    Customer Rebate: - $2,000.00
    Dealer Price: $41,155.00

    Sales Tax (estimate): + $2,696.64
    Tag/Registration Fees (estimate): + $575.75
    Electronic Filing: + $24.00
    Documentation Fee: + $75.00
    Balance Due (estimate): $44,526.39

The $2250 lease cash is available for all trims.

What state is this? There are different ways of calculating the tax obligation on a lease.

The dealer provided the quote for purchase and included the full state tax, which was an error. I'm in Minnesota so I should only be paying tax on the total of the lease payments. THe adjusted cap cost is 44009 and with a residual of 25340, I believe the dealer's number are correct for 35 payments.

Yeah, dealers are fond of doing that. It confuses the numbers to the point where the consumer doesn't know which way is up, therefore giving the dealer an advantage.

  • Thanks. Follow up question bc I can't seem to figure out the math. I've been quoted the following:

    XLT 4WD with 202A Package:

    MSRP: $41,145
    Cap Cost: $38,145
    Residual Value: $23,150
    Money Factor: .25%
    Acquisition Fee: $645

Monthly Payment: $435 with $695 down

Is that a fair price? I get completely different numbers. Thanks!

    What term/miles is this for?

That residual amount is about 56% of the MSRP, which does not match the information we gave you above.

However, using those numbers, I get $426/mo before tax.

54% residual for 36/10.5 on the XLT 4WD.

Dealer can mark up the APR for extra profit. Be polite and tell them you won't sign a deal if they do that.

Lots of Ford dealers in NE Ohio - only takes one to meet your numbers.

Thanks Michael. He was actually quoted me a higher residual than 54%. He states the residual was actually $500 dollars less. In addition to that, they told me that I have to pay tax on the Ford incentive cash.

The $301 circled number is one payment that I still owe on my current lease with Ford and they're willing to waive it

Comes down to $489 mostly with  $0 down

    Thanks guys !

As best as I can tell, the MF is marked up. Base rate is .25%.

I agree with the math on the depreciation portion of the payment - $428.57. The .25% APR results in $5.62/mo in rent charge.

Politely tell the dealer that you won't sign a deal with an inflated MF - they know what the base rate is.

    .25% and 54%.

I get $584/mo with those numbers - pretty close to your quote, so I assume that the negative equity is already factored into the deal.

What is the breakdown of the $2750 due at signing?

You should be negotiating a lower selling price over and above the incentives - use the "make / model / year" pull downs at the top of the screen to link to the price tools.

Hi Can I please have residual and MF for a 3 year 15k/yr lease on XLT and Sport models? Located in Northern Virginia (DC area). Also is the 2250 lease cash still going on? Also in Virginia do I pay tax on the full sale price or leased portion?

Yes, $2250 lease cash is still available.

I believe VA assesses sales tax against the entire selling price - 4.1%, IIRC.

    MSRP 46,100
Sales price including lease rebates $38,455
taxes, tags, title, fees up front $1894
    $542/month

Hi, I'm looking to lease a 2017 ford explorer sport with 401A package and twin moonroof in California. MSRP of 52750. What can I expect a reasonable monthly lease payment with tax included for $2000 down for 36month/15k miles?

  • Hi, I'm looking at leasing a 2017 ford explorer XLT with the 202A bundle, Tech Bundle, Moonroof, Sport Appearance, and Trailer Hitch. MSRP is 45650. What would the residuals and MF be in Western PA for a 36month/15K lease

Hi, selling price is $48,600, I was given a quote for $3100 down, 12k miles 36 month for $590(tax included)
  • So if my Sales Price is 38000 after incentives, and I have 4000 equity on my trade, by my calculations, I get a payment of 450 - 460. Does that sound right to you?

Using those prices, I get $596/mo before tax.

What is the full breakdown of the $3100 up front cash?

Using the MSRP and selling price provided, I get a payment of $415/mo before tax.

    A few observations:

    1. Don't use trade equity as down payment - only up front costs should be the first payment and DMV costs. Have the dealer cut you a check for the remaining equity.
    2. I would confirm with the dealer that the $38,000 price is valid for a lease; often, there are incentives that only work if you are buying.
