Much worse - when the loaner crosses the 5000 mile threshold, the residual drops by 4% and the .25 deduction is taken.

Try to find a loaner with less than 5000 miles on it - these will be much more lease friendly.

Hello. I'm looking into leasing a BMW 330ix retired courtesy vehicle, with over 7k miles on it. I do understand that there is a 4% residual deduction PLUS a .25/mile deduction for every mile over 500. So far so good - the price is great.

What I hadn't heard before is what a sales manager just told me, which is, as he wrote, "if the vehicle has 5000 mi or above, it loses any lease support from BMW, ie. any Lease Rebates. For the 3-SERIES that would mean a loss of a $3000 rebate."

Are you familiar with this policy?

It's supposed to be a $0 down deal. I told sales guy I don't want to put down payment. This is what he sent me.

I ran the #s into 2 different lease calculators and came back with a lower payment. Seems to me the sales guy's version is $1000 more, which translates to a higher payment.

First off, the adjusted cap cost looks off. Looks like the following happened:

$3000 rebate subtracted from Initial Cap Cost
Acquisition Fee then added
Bank Fee of $109, DMV Fees of $23 (loaner special for CA?), and $345.30 for something added to come to an Adjusted Cap Cost of $30,611.70
His deal shows I put $1000 down and he says that's for the drive off fees.

Something definitely off!

To clarify:
MSRP: $37,295
Selling price: $32,900
Rebate: $3,000
Acquisition: $925
MF: 0.00152
RV: 57%
36 months, 12K/year


I am actually getting $336/mo without putting $1000 down!

Any help appreciated!

Dealer is correct. If possible, find a demo with less than 5000 miles on it.

Not for sure... looks like the 3-series might have lease programs for another month or two, but that could always change. Some models probably have lease programs that end this month (4-, 6-, 7-series)

Using $32900 as the selling price, subtracting $3000 rebate, then adding back in the $925 acquisition fee, I get $30,825. Looks like the sales guy subtracted an additional $213, probably from part of the $1000 which I'm supposed to chip in for the drive off fees.

So, drive off fees are $787, looks like that's for 1st month's payment, registration and doc fees, and tax on cap cost reduction.

Getting $335 monthly, $365 with tax...So I guess this is a honest to goodness accurate lease quote!

Yes, MF is marked up the max allowed.

Ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost used for those lease payment quotes; and how they got to them from the selling prices.

Yes, that's true.

If you want a loaner, much better off finding one with under 5000 miles.

The price delta is about $9000 to break even on a loaner with over 5000 miles.
