Hi - super confused about some lease pricing I just received and would love your help.
2017 GTI SE 36/12 with $0 down was $498/month here in Colorado. That feels stupid high.
MSRP was $33,230 selling price 27,650 +$399 and $498. Total was $28,547.
My Questions:
1. Feels super high, agree?
2. Dlr would not give me MF or Residual, can you let me know what they should be?

Yes, that payment looks crazy high for a $33K car.

No reference to the $625 bank fee for VW; that's likely added to the selling price as well.

What tax rate?

What dealer are you working with? I had no problems when I worked with McDonald on Broadway in Denver last year for my Jetta lease.

I'm working with Gebhardt VW, I had previously leased a 2012 GTI from them many years ago and was pretty happy with the deal.

My tax rate is 7.4%.

When I plug all the numbers into Leasehackr I get very different figures at $376/mth all in, including tax, doc fee and the $625 acquisition fee.

Any suggestions? I love the car and would lease it in a heartbeat if the Leasehackr numbers were accurate.

You need to get the adjusted cap cost from the dealer - this is the selling price plus any fees you aren't paying up front.

Well...I got my answer. The MF is .00289 which is 3x (give or take) what you advised. In his email to me this morning he mentioned the following:

"For the money factor, we have a choice on incentives, take the standard rate (which we did) and get an additional $2,000 off or take the special rate and lose $2,000 in discount. The payment is pretty much identical whichever incentive you take."

I've attached the numbers here

I suspect I should follow your previous advice by walking away from any dealer that triples the national MF rate.

Yeah, plenty of VW dealers to choose from. Only takes one to meet your numbers.

Just keep in mind.. you aren't going to get a discount from MSRP like that, using the base rates. The dealer was being honest with you about how it works.

Dealers has to make money, somewhere. Trying to offset the big discount from sticker.

Find another dealer, more willing to accommodate you.

New programs scheduled for release on Friday.

If VW Credit includes GAP insurance, then does that mean it is ok to do a single-pay lease with VW?

Yes... but, it would be, even without GAP.

Single-pay leases aren't the same as making a big CAP cost reduction. The payments are calculated using a reduced money factor, and then added together. Even though you pay them upfront, the payments are considered as being paid sequentially. If the lease ends early, involuntarily, then unused payments are refunded, before calculating payoff, insurance, GAP, etc.

Almost every bank, other than Toyota Financial Services includes GAP, at no extra charge.

But, residual is down 1% from last month
and lease cash is down from $1200 last month.
