Please share your thoughts on the following deal:

    2017 BMW 540i

    $71,810 MSRP
    $64,558 Sell price

    $2500 due at signing
    $2000 holiday cash

$683 per month plus tax @ $736 inc tax

    Thanks!

Do you mind sharing more details on your deal? I am negotiating on a similarly equipped 540i in Washington and the dealer is not being as gracious. Is your MSRP to Sell Price inclusive of loyalty rebates or anything like that? What MF are they giving you. I am seeing both BMW and Audi dealers in my area are marking up MF quite a bit...

    The residual isn't 58%.

It should be 61% for 36/10, then minus $825 for mileage..
    Or about 59.7%

Using 59.7% as the residual, and $53,500 as the adjusted CAP, I get the same payment.

It's a good deal, but I wouldn't pay tax and acquisition fee upfront.
Roll that $3000 into the lease payment.
You'll be around $669/mo, but with less than $1000 due at signing.

Do dealers ever mess w the residual. I have a deal for a demo 535i GT with 7k miles on it. They are only giving me 61% residual on a 24/10 lease before mileage penalty. Are GTs lower residual? They are also marking up MF to .00192 and unwilling to negotiate. Overall it’s not a bad deal but feel like I can do better.

Demos with over 5000 miles have the residual reduced (by 4%), in addition to the mileage reduction.
You have to get a really, really low price to make them competitive. Of course, getting a money factor bump doesn't help that cause.

2017 530i. Looking at the deal sheet, I came up with $689.41 plus tax (7%). Residual and MF look correct. The dealer told me it would be about $690 + tax. Any suggestions or other areas that I need to be concerned with? It appeared I was being taxed monthly on the acquisition fee, but it was hard to tell. Any assistance would be great. I am looking to get this closer to $650. Thanks!

That isn't a very big discount from sticker (less than 4%) - I'd ask for 8-9% off sticker - that is likely the quickest route to get the payment you want

    Hi there,

Can you please help me assess these two deals and tell me which is better or how I can improve either. They are both 36 months/10k miles

Deal 1: 2017 BMW 540i Sedan Rear-wheel Drive (loaner with less than 1k miles)
    MSRP $68,275
    Sale price: $59,998
    Rebates: $2,000
    RV: 41,647.75
    Tax: 3,880.74
    Other fees: $396
Total downpayment(including all fees and 1st month payment): $8,000
    Monthly: $564.55

Deal 2: 2017 BMW 530i Sedan (brand new)
    MSRP $63,310
    Sale price: $55,310
    Rebates: $2,000
    RV: 38,619.1
    Tax: Unsure
    Other fees: Unsure
Total downpayment(including all fees and 1st month payment): $7,000
    Monthly: $550

You can make it $0 downpayment to make it apples to apples. What I want to know is, which deal is better? Do you think these are great deals or can I find more ways to reduce cost?

A few general questions and comments:

    1. What state and tax rate is this?
    2. We are not fans of large down payments for a lease - just the first payment and any registrations costs should be paid when you sign the paperwork

Deal 1 is just over 12% off sticker; deal 2 is closer to 13% off sticker. But, given the $5K difference in MSRP, I'm guessing the car in deal 1 has more options. Which will you prefer driving for the next three years, and might you regret not getting the options with deal 1?

Ask the dealers for the adjusted cap cost and payment with only $1000 out of pocket at signing - that might be a better comparison of the deals.

On the surface, deal one is better, as it's more car for about the same amount of money.

The deduct from the residual should be .25/mile (looks like you are getting .20/mile, which is good for you).

Texas taxes the entire selling price, even for a lease. This makes your lease payments more expensive than in other states.

I agree with the math on the worksheet. Pretty good deal, overall.

Are there any obvious downsides to leasing an "executive" 5 series? (Those that have been driven by executives at the dealer for several months). 2017 530i with approximately 5500 miles. Would be entering into lease with miles and warranty extended. Other than potential wear/tear that has already been done. Anything else to be concerned with?

Additionally, how do the calculations change? It's my understanding the residual may drop by 4% and the lease incentives are lost. Am I correct? Any other lease calculation changes?

Most "executive" models are no different than leasing a demo or service loaner. But, the numbers really move against you, once they have over 5000 miles. Under 5000, they qualify for the incentives.

If they can make the numbers work, and the monthly payment is substantially less than on a new unit, then there are few issues. With the extra mileage upfront, you may be more likely to need tires or brakes before lease end.

Doesn't seem like a big enough discount to make it cheap to lease. Have they given you a lease quote?

    In California?

Sales tax number is irrelevant for a lease.
No mention of the $925 acquisition fee
Residual will be reduced to account for the current mileage on the vehicle.
Money factor is marked up from the .00152 base.
Discount is okay... might be some more room, there.

Just leased a m550. If anyone in southern California is looking for a deal, send me a message. The manager/dealer I used states they will give the same deal I received to anyone I refer. FYI, I was asked not to publish specific details on the final deal I received, but it was at least 10% off MSRP on an m550 which I was told by multiple dealers in the area that they would not do. I'm also told that bigger discounts can be had on other 5 series models as they have more allocation vs m550s.

Can you provide numbers on a 530i x drive?
Terms are 12k/24 months. I already have numbers for 36 months. BTW, I am located in MA.

    Any lease incentives?

A Wall Street Journal reporter is hoping to find a recent buyer that would be willing to talk about their experience at the dealership, specifically about how/if the salesperson explained car safety systems during the purchase process. She's hoping to ask a few questions about how the dealer explained the ADAS package, tried to sell it to them, demonstrated how it worked, etc. Please send a note to pr@edmunds.com by next Friday 2/23/18
