    Hi michael/Ky,

Do you guys help with leasing of a loaner vehicle?

I am leasing service loaner in zip code 90703

    C300 36/10k or 36/12k

    any incentives?
  • joshliujoshliu Member Posts: 5
    Another question about the mileage.

In previous post you guys provide residual for C300 10k miles at 57% and 12k miles at 55%

now, 2% difference in cap cost on a $40k car is about $800

the difference between paying for mileage up front and at the end of lease is $0.20 versus $0.25 per mile. (this is paid extra in the monthly payment)

If I am not crazy, $800 (the different between cap cost) divided by the difference of $0.05 means I can technically drive 16k miles more total and would result in the same out of pocket money paid.

Now why would anyone not go with the lowest miles possible initially on the lease?

There is only 1% difference between 10K and 12K per year. You may have been mixing up RWD and AWD quotes.

    RWD C300: 55%/57%/58% residual for 15K/12K/10K, for 36 months

    So, you may be crazy...

Yes I must have gotten them mixed up, but even with a 1% difference, thats $400, and $400 divided by $0.05 is 8000 miles, technically I would still come up 2000 miles at the end of the lease?

If this is the case, what would be the residual for 36 month / 7500 miles and 5000 miles?

    1) You can't buy extra miles upfront, unless you take the 15K/yr allowance.

It's at least $0.20 per mile for extra miles.... The cost is never $0.05 per mile. Using that number will never give you a true break even point.

So here was my understanding talking to the dealership.

    Lets say I lease a $40000 C300 and negotiated a 36/10000 lease term for $400 / month (bad deal I know)

if I were to change the lease term to 36/12000, my payment would go up to $433.33 because the extra 6000 miles is charged at $0.20 per mile. This is an extra $1200 in the payments over 3 years

Now if I decided to keep the 36/10000 term, but at the end of the lease I actually drove 36000 miles, I would have to pay for those extra 6000 miles at $0.25 per mile, an extra $1500 in payment.

Taking the 36/10000 seems like a bad idea, BUT, its only because we did not factor into the residual drop. The residual dropped by 1%, which is $400, the difference between the mileage payment is $300, to technically I saved $100 in terms of mileage cost. (ok i know all these analysis for $100 over 3 years...) but you get the point.

so from the sounds of it, its probably better to take the lesser mileage option, gain the payment reduction and residual increase, and pay for those miles at the end of the lease. Please point out if my theory has some major flaws that I did not take into consideration.

    @joshliu

Let's assume the car is $40K MSRP, and you drive 12K/yr
With a 36/12 lease, you make your payments and turn your car in. No mileage penalty.

If you lease for 36/10, you save $400 over the life of the lease (1% of MSRP)
At the end of the lease, you have driven 36000 miles, but your allowance is only 30000 miles
6000 miles over at $0.25 mile is a $1500 penalty. You've lost $1100 by not taking the higher mileage.

Where your assumption is wrong is the increase in payment for 12K/yr
$400 less depreciation divided by 36 months is an increase of $11.11 per month, not $33.33 per month.
For a total of: $400 (funny how that works).

    36/10: $400/mo
    36/12: $411.11/mo.

    36/12: $411.11/mo.

From your explanation, then I can say the salesperson is flat out lying to my face then, because the payment increase he calculated for me under 12k miles versus 10k miles was definitely not just $10 a month, and his reasoning was because extra mileage cost $.20 a mile versus $.25 to pay at the end of lease.

    Back to my original question,

for a C300 loaner vehicle lease with 5-10k miles on the odometer already, is the residual still the same as new car purchase?

No, the residual will have to be reduced to account for the existing mileage.

To go from 10K to 15K/yr would be around $33.33 per month + tax. (assuming $40K MSRP).

It really is simple math.. Multiply the percent by the MSRP, then divide by the term. Then add sales tax.

    Dear Michael,
New to this forum and already learning a lot! My zip code is 60035 - I'm looking to lease an ex-loaner C300 AWD for 36 months / 15K miles/year. Can you provide me with the MF and RV (and any other incentives/rebates/information you think would be helpful). I got one quote from a local dealer with a MF of 0.00125 which seems high (another dealer offered 0.00084).
    Thanks.

I have a question on the money factor. The areas I'm looking in all have a MF of .00077, dealer is stating .00127. Can people actually achieve the lower MF when doing a lease, or is a markup expected?

You want the base rate of .00077. Anything higher is either for less than top tier credit or greed.

Lots of folks get the base rate. You just have to walk away from dealers that try to mark it up on you.

Hi Michael, New to this forum and I’m learning a lot about leasing. I reside in Chicago (zip code 60634). I’ve been negotiated with 4 different dealers and just looking for the best deal on either a 2018 demo E class or a new 2018 C 300. I’m looking for a 36 month lease and would be willing to put down 2000. What MF and RV should I know when negotiating for either of the vehicles. Any information you could provide would be great! Thanks

To get to $559/mo, the adjusted CAP cost would have to be $2000 higher than the sale price.

    So..
    $2000 + $2160 - $559 = $3600 of unaccounted for charges.

    $795 acq.fee
    $300 NJ DMV (est)
    $400 dealer fee (est)
    $1450 tax (est)

    That's $2950... About $650 short..
    Possibilities:
Marked up acquisition fee ($300 max)
    Marked up money factor
    Garbage fees
Tax, DMV, dealer fee estimates are off.

    The discount seems good.

Hey.. I'm a pretty good guesser!
Doc and government fees were a little higher than my estimate, taxes were a little lower.
Acquisition fee was indeed marked up.

It's a fair deal for both sides. They aren't going to change their doc fee, or drop the acquisition fee markup. You could ask for a price reduction to counteract those fees. Doesn't mean they'll bite, though.

CA taxes the monthly payment on a lease; that looks like a purchase quote.

Ask the dealer for the adjusted CAP cost associated with that payment, and how they got there from the selling price.

    RWD or AWD?

Can I get the mf and residual for a loaner? 24/15 36/15 please.

    Zip: 91792
    Model: C300 Sedan RW
    Mileage: 8469

That is a lot of miles for a loaner. Not sure how that will affect the numbers.

    New:
    .00060 MF
    61%/55% residual
    $1250 dealer incentive

Thanks kyfdx. Is there a formula to calculate residual based off mileage? Also based off what you're saying MF and residual are the same regardless of 24 months or 36 months?

The money factor is the same..
Gave you two residuals, for the two different terms.

No, we don't know how Mercedes adjusts their residuals for demos.
