I have a 2015 Rav4 lease that I am due to turn in. I am seeing bad reviews about the 2018 model year compared to other SUVs in the class. Does anybody know if there is really a problem with this model year?

Two Topics/Questions:

1. I understand the residual values may have changed as of July 10.

I thought that Toyota Financial sets the RV for model and trim and it was pretty consistent (at least regionally).

However, I have been given 2 different residual values on the same model and trim (and both include the option package "Power Plus EV Package") by dealers who are 10 miles apart (in the same state).

The first dealer gave an RV of .56 for an new 2018 XLE (gas) on July 11. (RV of $17,132 on $30,593 MSRP.)

The second dealer gave me a RV of $16,871 on a MSRP of $31,142 on July 10.
That translates into a RV of .54

What should I use as the current residual value for a XLE gas version in zip code 01460? (The second dealership is in zip code 01523

Both dealers use a .00001 MF
Both dealers use a $1,570 Manufacturer's Incentive
Both cars on are each dealer's lot


2. The dealer with the lower MSRP had some generous discounts BUT they also included a line item called "capitalized cost increase" of $1062 in small print at the bottom of their lease estimate- that is "due on signing" for this "zero down" lease.

Is my assumption correct that is this is just another creative way for the dealer to increase the cost of the lease overall, which means that the monthly payment could increases as wel?. This would a negotiable line item, right?

1. What lease term and how many miles per year? My guess is that you are looking for 36/12, and that the first dealer didn't make the adjustment from 15K to 12K (2%).
2. Yes, looks like the $1062 is a CAP cost reductions - aka, money out of your pocket.
