Thoughts on this deal for 2018 Passat SE in GA (30329) 36/12 with $0 down and Tier 2 credit Gross Cap Cost - $27661 Cap Cost Reduction - $1000 Rent Charge - $1849 Total base - $14398.56 Monthly Payment - 399.96 Thanks! S
.00001 MF and 51% residual $1350 lease cash What is the MSRP? I can tell you right away, that the money factor is marked up the maximum amount. If they were using the base money factor, the total rent charge would be about $20, not $1849. (that's over $50/mo., extra!). I would guess they are using .00126 for the money factor VW uses the same money factor for Tiers 1 and 2. Even if you dropped down to Tier 3, the bump is only .00030. With the information we have, so far, this is a terrible deal.

    Good discount from MSRP, but:
    $599 dealer fee
Money factor marked up from .00001 to .00126
The markup alone adds $50+/mo. to the quoted payment.
Adding the markup, plus the dealer fee, means you are paying the equivalent of over MSRP on the vehicle.

That's a ridiculous lease price for a Passat

They revised and offered same payment on a SE with Tech at $30.6k MSRP.   Are you saying the issue is the mark up? And are those determined dealer to dealer? Sorry if these are silly questions, I’m trying to understand where I drop the ball in understanding the process.

Yes... the issue is the markup. VW Credit allows a markup of up to .00125, and this dealer has taken the maximum markup.

Do you have the March numbers for a 2018 RLine, 36 Mo., 12k and 15 per year lease?
Also, could you please look back on your 2017 data and tell me if the lease cash changed from March to April '17?
    Thanks for the ongoing help.

    Hi Michael:
Over the years your posts have been extremely helpful in allowing me to arrive at a lease arrangement in which I was confident that I was doing the best that could be done. I am getting ready to lease another Passat and the one piece of information that eludes me is the dealer discount off the MSRP that could be considered reasonable. I acknowledge that this information may be beyond the scope of your forum. However, I have searched all of Edmunds forums and others that would seemingly provide this information without success. The forums I thought would be helpful merely referred my inquiry to a dealer which were not helpful. I was unable to find a path into Edmunds in which to inquire or inform them of this void in car buying information. Therefore, could you forward my post on this subject to them.
A great example of the information sought is illustrated by season15's post above wherein he provided a copy of the actual paperwork from the dealer showing a dealer discount of 2260. from an MSRP of 27,670 or just over 8 percent.
I saw an example of why this information is so important while seeing a '18 Passat with an MSRP of 27,760 and dealer discount of 4,999. The 1,950 VW Cash Back was buried in the dealer discount and the add ons to complete the deal were in the thousands. The most complimentary word I could use to describe this dealers pricing activity is bogus. The actual cost of this car was near MSRP.

    Hi Michael:
I am close to getting a 2018 RLine and I have been waiting to see if the numbers for April were going to differ from the month of March. I was especially waiting to see if the cash back number had increased from March to April as it did when I leased the VW that I am currently replacing. Is it unusual for the number not to change at all from month to month as seems to be the case in March to April. Also, when you get updated numbers for a new month is it always on or about the first of the month? Thanks.

It's not unusual for numbers to not change with the new month.

Programs don't always start on the 1st. They never start on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday, and rarely start on a Friday.

But, the new program does start on the first, next month.

We haven't seen anything. And, likely, we won't.

Maybe I was wrong. Is that kind of "end of the month push" usually a promotion by a specific individual dealer, or from VW that valid at all dealers?

    Thanks.

Could be an individual dealer promotion.

Base MF is .00001, this month

    53% residual

Assuming the MSRP is around $26,145, I get a payment of $150/mo plus tax.

I'd ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost associated with that payment quote.

What state and tax rate is this?

There's a lot we don't know about this quote.
