Can you break down what I should be asking for in a quote so I can see what kind of deal I am really getting? I am experiencing that the dealers I have worked with simply throw out a total monthly amount and assume that it all I need to go on. Thanks in advance for any tips on how to get more transparency when shopping around.

What you want from the dealer:

    MSRP
    Selling price
Adjusted CAP cost (selling price plus any taxes and fees you are not paying up front, less any incentives or down payment you are making)
    Residual % and value
    MF used for their calculations
    Pre- and post-tax payments

Yes, dealers love to give you the bottom line, without any information as to how they got there. Keep asking questions until you fully understand all the numbers they are sharing with you.

And, engage multiple dealers. The competition between them will get you the best deal.

In regards to the incentive, should that be given to me across all dealerships I work with? And do they use the incentive in lieu of negotiating a lower sales price or in conjunction to negotiating a lower price?

The difference is made up in 1290 in accessories. The followup feedback i received from the dealer was that the discount erased the 1290 plus included other overall discounts. The MSRP without the accessories for both are as follows (Base-45195 (includes 995 destination fee) / Tech: 49575 (includes 995 destination fee).

Thanks. Can anyone come up approx. what a fair monthly payment would be on the following specs? I want to make sure that I am not so far off in thinking I can get a $550 or less monthly payment. I know sales tax in Texas works against me.

    Base FWD, 36/12K, zero down

    MSRP: 45195 (incl. Destination)
Sales price: 40885 (let's say we get 5% off MSRP and then $2050 incentive, seems reasonable)

12K/yr raises the residual by 2%, and lowers the payment by $28-$30 per month.

Ignoring the accessories, the discounts are average..
Adding accessories can kill a good lease deal.. ;)

Ok good to know. We’re getting close to that number.

Still waiting on the adj cap (salesman says hasn’t heard of it but as long as we have a breakdown of all fees and taxes, will that be sufficient?)  Working off this spreadsheet (I verified that they used the .00050 MF and 57% RV), I come up with $2072 in fees. Including that $911 “total financed after markets” fee. What’s is that? How does this deal look so far? Thanks in advance!

That sounds like the accessories. How badly do you want them? You'll pay for 100% of them, even though you'll only have the car for 3 years.

We found this offer on the dealership website for the same MDX base model but with 36/10K.

    $499/mo for 36 months.

    Amount down at signing: $499
MSRP: $45195 (includes destination, tax, license, title fee, registration, documentation fee, options insurance and the like).
    Actual Net Cap Cost: $42932.40
Net Cap Cost includes $595 acquisition fee
Dealer Contribution May vary and may affect actual lease payment.
Total Monthly Payments $19764 (when I add $499x36 =$17964. Typo?)
Option to purchase at lease end $26213.10.
    15 cents/mile over $10K

How does this lease special look? We think we may go over miles, but at 15 cents/mile, we still come out ahead of the first offer - $555-565/mo for 12K, 36 months, zero down. Same MSRP.

Thanks for your continued help! Much appreciated.

That's not really a dealer special, that's a nationally advertised lease payment.

That's all you need to know about that.

How do these numbers look?  From what you are seeing would "balance due" equate to adjusted cap?  This is in Orange county, FL

No.. because that is a purchase quote.
FL taxes the monthly payment on a lease, so the tax number is invalid
And, no mention of the $595 acquisition fee.

Subtract the tax and add the $595, and you might be close, but depending on which "cash upfront" amount you choose, that will change the adjusted CAP, as well.

On the contract where it gives me itemization of gross cap cost it breaks down 493.80 for sales and other taxes.
Just curious- why are you asking?

Because Texas taxes the full selling price of the vehicle, even on a lease.
Without tax credits, your taxes would be $2500 or so..

no down payment and monthly payment 699.

$2950 incentive, but they are only giving your $4145 off MSRP
That's an effective discount of $1200 on a $57K vehicle.

Can someone help me with my calculations. My math says I should be paying about $450 a month for the following vehicle (MDX AWD w/Tech) in Pennsylvania:

    MSRP = $52,600
    Selling price=$44,852
    RV=$28,930
    Gross Cap Cost=$45,852
    Adj Cap Cost = $42,902
    Depreciation=$13,972
    State sales tax=6%
    0 down

Am I wrong or should this only be a $450/month payment? And does this selling price seem too good to be true? Or is this legit? Dealer is quoting me $568/month for 10K lease or $584/month for 12K lease. Is there a calculation I'm missing?

KYFDX (or anyone else). Quick follow-up regarding the earlier Tech deal. I know they say to never put a large down $, but does the revised Tech deal look right (changes from previous deal above ($3k down instead of $1k down, 12k miles per month instead of 15k per year). I would assume i should see a significant change in the payment given the extra $2k down and fewer yearly miles. The previous deal was $599 a month all in for $1k down and 15k miles per month. Both monthly's included all costs, i'm in Southern California.

    MDX Tech
    -MSRP: 50855
    -Discount: 6755
    -Selling Price: 44129
-Net Cap: 45015 (includes dmv fees and bank fees)
    -Tax rate: 7.75
    -MF: .00050
    -RV: 26285
    -Duration: 3YR
    -Mileage: 12k per year
    -Down: 3k
    -Quoted Monthly: 505

    $53500
    -$2950
    +3769
    = 54319
With that as the adjusted CAP cost, I get a payment of $608/mo.
That's assuming first payment due at signing.
With that payment rolled in, $626/mo.

    .00050 MF and 55% residual
    $2950 incentive

I'll guess that your selling price already includes the $2950, as that is a dealer incentive, not consumer incentive.
Also, lease tax in PA is an extra 3% over the base rate, so 9% sales tax, in your case.

Make those two changes, and the numbers will make more sense.
