pls know, you will end up paying DMV registration for entire year (though u will use vehicle for last 3 months (month 37,38,39). there is probably only state that prorates the fees and give you refund. You can run numbers both way but my guess is 36 months is going to comes out better. hope this is helpful

Dear Moderators,

I signed a lease yesterday on 2019 Q5 Premium PLUS with 20’ wheels, black optics and warm weather package.
12K/36 months with AUDI CARE included.
MSRP- 54100
Selling price- 45093
Gross capital – 46987.06 (=45093+999 (Audicare)+ 895
Cap. Reduction-1126.11 (its weird how they did it, its coming from my $2500 cash total I put towards drive off cost,1st month).
Net cap- 45860.95
Monthly base- 512.47
Tax- 52.53 (9.5%)
Total- 565/month
Then I decided to add 9x MSD of 4950 which brought down MF to 0.00002 and final payment included taxes is 529/month.

Balance items that were listed in drive off cost
Title registration- 591
Tire- 8.75
Some tax-115.54
1st month
Doc /tire fees-102.4
Total-1374
$$ went towards cap reduction- 1126= 2500-1374

My question-
a) Do you get the same original $565/month they did is right?
b) If yes, then does $529/month make senses after 9x MSDs
c) Biggest question I have is, why do you think dealership added acquisition cost of $895 in my gross cap and then offered cap reduction of 1126 while calculating net CAP. They could have simply reduced taken 895 from my cash and cash cap reduction could have been just 231. (231=2500-(1374+895). would that have made any difference may be pay less taxes on cap cost?.

Sorry for the long post, I spent so much time learning/researching this and I felt like I had all my ducks in the row when i will get to a deal. I wonder if dealership still got me in the end to pay more by pushing me to negotiate monthly payment instead. And I did agree to i.e. 565/month before diving into understanding the calculation. I had another offer which was $530/month for same car (MSRP being just 355 less)but I ended up going with this offer anyways since my spouse really liked the color/optic pkg on it. My assumption was, they are not offering the same discount as other dealership in selling price , now i think they just structured it differently for same selling price.. Hoping you can help me clear this in my head little bit. Thanks again for your help, your forum has saved me 1000s of dollars through this process as it helps understand real value of the car u should pay Vs the perception that dealership creates for you .

a) Yes, to the penny, but the tax is 10.25%, not 9.50%
b) Yes, with 10.25% sales tax rate
c) Remember "some tax"? That is upfront tax on the CAP reduction. Acquisition fees are taxable, as well, so it doesn't matter if it went in the Gross CAP, and then you had more CAP reduction, or they took it out of the $2500 and you had less CAP reduction, the "some tax" is the same, either way. Now, if they had done that with non-taxable fees, then you'd have an issue (but, they didn't).
