Im looking to deal on a 2020 MDX SH-AWD tech. Dealer is offering to sell for $42026 out the door (msrp $52525), but is requiring financing through AFS to get the total incentive. I asked if this is a simple interest loan and they said yes, with no prepayment penalty. If i can refinance immediately after i sign the loan, why would AFS require financing through them?

Because, most people aren't going to refinance, even though they may intend to.
Plus, to get that price, you have to take their "standard" rate, which is higher than the promo rate.

They make it confusing on purpose. I wouldn't put anything down, just first month payment when you pick up the vehicle. That would get you around $530 month payment. For 10k miles and if you do indeed qualify for all those incentives, I think you can do better.

Why start a lease with $3500 out of pocket? What does that cover, specifically?

That doesn't answer my question - ask the dealer for an itemization of how the $3500 is used:

first payment
registration costs
fees paid up front (which ones? how much?)
cap cost reduction (down payment)

So, is Acura picking up the first payment, or is it being added into the remaining 35 payments?

Our recommendation is to only pay the first payment and any state required registration fees at signing, and roll everything else into the payment.

You'll lose that up front money if the car is stolen or totaled during the lease.

They "claim"? Ask for a screen shot of their lease worksheet, then we won't be guessing at any of this.

I still stand by my opinion that you want less up front, in exchange for a higher payment.
