$25,500 I think that was an excellent offer. I didn't pay MSRP. I think you got a bargan for your truck. Funny how the dealer was offering me the vehicle you were looking for and didn't have the Sport Package #2 I wanted.
I personally think the hood scoop makes my truck look meaner. And later on I'm looking to supercharge it and take off the scoop to cool my motor.
Man the seats are all worth the cost. LOL. TRD Sports package or X-runners have the best seats. $1000 over invoice doesn't seem bad at all. Dealers have to make a living also. The 2005 Tacoma's are worth the wait so get the one you specifically want because you don't want to regret later on.
I got the same package with a manual and tow (OG - DZ - FE - Z1), for $25,500 +del+tax+conv ($200)+reg. With the auto, $26k is a very reasonable price.
TRD 4x4 Access Cabs ARE NOT going to go near invoice in most locales. Maybe in 6 months, but not now, it's too hot of a vehicle.
I'd buy it, as long as there is no trade involved. If there's a trade, tell us about it, as that affects the value of the new car,
First posting. I am looking for a 2005 Tacoma, double cab, 4x2 prerunner, V6, automatic transmission, with Option Combo C (TRD # 1). Does anyone want to share what they paid or what dealers are offering. I want to find a good dealer and a good price. Thanks
Just an FYI....got a Tacoma 05 Pre-Runner DC V6 with TRD Pack # 1 w/ floor mats/first aid kit/door protector from Charles Barker Toyota....paid $23,500. MSRP was approx. $25,400. They were willing to deal.
That is a good deal for this area and basically the same deal ($XX over invoice) I'm getting on a pre-order from Priority. Glad to see they've changed their tune...when I called them on a truck that interested me, they informed me it was the one the manager was driving and it had near 2000 miles on it. I asked if they would give me deal...at or below invoice, and they said "oh no, these trucks are hot, we won't sell anywhere near invoice"...so, I never went and saw them, turned me off...2000 miles and wanting to treat it like a new truck wasn't going to cut it and they didn't even tell me what I wanted to hear in order to get me to visit them.
Priority simply told me they would beat the best quote I could find...which they did...and they were willing to do 95% of it all over e-mail and faxes.
Don't mess with dealers that are trying to stick near the MSRP. I got about $2300 off of MSRP, and the dealer got me the EXACT truck I wanted within 4 days of giving him the 'go ahead'. And their service after the deal has been fabulous.
If your Toyota dealer won't give you what you want, go somewhere else. There are good dealers out there. Don't settle for less just because these Tacomas are "so hot right now".
For those of you who have purchased the Tacoma, has Toyota responded back to you in any way ? I mean even a letter to say thanks for buying a Toyota ? Its been 6 weeks for me and I haven't seen a thing which is surprising. I have concerns that my dealer had something to do with it. I was asked by them that if I couldn't fill out a survey and give excellents in every category to let them know before the survey arrives. I wrote an email to the finance manager of the dealer indicating that I would have a problem giving excellent on a survey regarding their handling of the financing at Larry Miller Toyota. I caught GAP being sold to me on a lease with GAP built-in. I found the agreed upon sales price being inflated by almost a 1000 and tossed into the lease as if to hide it from me. Then I could only get a better interest rate (.25 better) if I bought the security system from them. I was just curious as to whether other buyers have received anything from Toyota themselves after purchasing.
I bought a 2005 DBL CB, LB, TRD Sport w/ Side Curtain Airbags, 6-CD Changer w/ JBL speaker system. $25,800 (not including tax, tag, title, etc...) from Longo Toyota.
The price you paid is approx. $1,400 over invoice according to KBB. Cars Direct would have gotten for $25,828 but they also mark-up about $400 on price. A good price considering supply and demand right now is between $900 and 1,100 over invoice for your model.
After shopping around for the last month I finally placed a deposit yesterday.
2005 Tacoma Double Cab 4X4 V6 Auto Long Bed (# 7596 thanks deepred300)
TRD Sport # 4 FE (50 State Emissions) C4 (Carpeted Floor Mats) D9 (Door sill protectors) DZ (6 Disc CD with steering wheel controls) EY ( Side curtain airbags) $27,716. plus 8.1% sales tax. $565.00 destination & a $5.00 AZ Tire tax.
The wait is 8-10 weeks & I will drive to Phoenix from San Diego to pick it up. Considering the local dealers couldn't come within $1500 of this price I dont mind the 5 hour drive. Anyone interested contact Camelback Toyota of Phoenix. I found it easier not to speak with them initially, they will quote you over the internet just tell them what you want to pay just be sure to do your homework first. Thanks to everybody who helped me from this site it's been great.
I only recieved a invitation to a dinner and meet the dealer's staff at Karl Malone Toyota. Nothing from Toyota thanking me for continuing to be a loyal customer.
It's been about 3 weeks since I bought my new Taco, and I just recieved a letter from Toyota in the mail. It's a survey and questionaire that you can mail in or do online.
Bought a couple days ago in the Seattle area. Reg Cab, 4x2, 4AT, w/enhancement pkg and floor mats. $15,800. Not sure how much, if any, lower I could have gone. Finance rate of 7.9%. Think I let my guard down on that one; more like I'm sure I did. Gave a down pay of more than 50% and plan on paying off before term, so the damage will be less. Not perfect, but hope the truck itself makes up for that. bearcrkrd..
Yeah, my dealer tried to start me out at 8.1%, without me noticing it on the paperwork. I said Oh no no. Then I got the manager in on it, and before it was over I think we got it down to 4.9%, which saved me over $1000 if I had left it at 8.1%!!! Plus I plan to pay the truck off early as well. You gotta watch those sneaky finance people at the dealer.
I've read that most car dealerships use "rule of 78" financing in which the buyer pays all of the interest in the first year. The dealer still gets all his interest even if you pay it off early.
Dealership finance dept. also called it 'simple interest' when I asked if there was a penalty for paying off early. Same with two loans I had from 2001, from Bank of America and Toyota Financial. No penalty, and you DO save interest by paying off early. Of course, the earlier the better. Thx kcram. bearcrkrd
The simple interest methods spreads the interest over the loan, instead of front-loading like the old 78. With simple interest, your payoff drops pretty evenly with every payment; the 78 loan would take years before you made a significant dent in principal, and it would leave buyers upside-down if they traded before the loan term completed.
Most manufacturer finance divisions (and some banks) have dropped early payoff penalty in an effort to move product and establish relationships. It's better for them if you come back again because you felt you were treated well.
Just put down a deposit on a black 4x4, Dbl Cab, 6-speed manual, Offroad package (OG), 6 cd audio system (DZ) and Floor mats (CF) for $26,714 + tax and license or $850 above invoice. I think I got a good deal.
I was quoted $24,190.05 (invoice $20,098.25) without tax,tag, doc fees ..etc..(with all taxes and the junk fees, it'd be $25368.05) Invoice MSRP Base $20,098.25 --- $22,175.00 Options $2951.80 (see below) --- $3573.00 Del,Pro,&Hndl $595.00 --- $595.00 Admin $545.00 --- --- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total $24,190.05 ---- $26343.00
I bought a 4wd, TRD #1 Double Cab, hood protector, floor mats, and custom exhaust cover for $25900. They are making more money then they are telling you i would offer them even less.
Picked up my '05 Tacoma Dbl Cab 4X4 V6 Long Bed (Silver) at Carson Toyota Fleet/Internet Sales in Irvine.
TRD Sport Package #4 Floor Mats Door Sill Protectors JBL 6-disc with sub-woofer. Side Curtain Airbags 50 State Emissions
Price was a little higher at $29,000 (+ tax/fees) than most I have seen on this board, but they had the color/equipment I wanted. And as you know, they don't hang around the lot long. I had been saving up for quite a few years for a new truck, so what the heck! For SoCal, I think I got a fair deal. Carlsbad Toyota Fleet wanted almost $1000 more for a SR5 Package #7 equipped truck.
The Carson Fleet Dept. was friendly and they had the truck detailed, prepped and waiting for me when I got to the lot. Can't say enough good things about them.
Just ordered my 05 4Dr, 4x4, 5-AT, TRD Off-Road. Packages ordered were FE (Emissions), CF (Floor Mats, should have passed on this one but will help when I go to sell, am going to store them so they are new when I sell it), OG (TRD Off road Package), and DZ (6-Disc Changer).
Edmunds TMV price chart with the packages (FE, OG, DZ)- the floor mats were not on there. The totals $29,210 MSRP with Destination Charge. The Invoice is $26,112, what others are paying was $28,355.
Sent emails to 6 dealers, heard back from 2, told those two I was dealing with six others (Little White Lie). Got a Price from one for $26,478 from one and $27, 256.
Tried to get the one for $27k to budge and would not. Dealt with the one for $26,478 and placed the order today. Got the Silver Truck for a final price of $26,555 ($77 doc fee.)
They tried the old "well your total is $$,$$$ when I went to order it, tried to add another $3XX for the Toyota Dealer Associates Advertising, and $565 for destination.
Looked him square in the eye and said if I get charged one penny over the quote I would walk out and not come back even if the lowered the price back. Said that new price put him behind two others on prices and he was only beating the other by $200.
Needles to say he honored the price, be careful, he even told me in person that was the final and still tried to get me for the Destination charge, something about when he quoted me it was from A-Stock and not B-Stock, basically ones that were not on the lot and had not been shipped yet.
KNOW YOUR FACTS, about cost, and vehicle specs. The best way to let a dealer know you can't be messed with is to correct him on something. I did it several times when discussing the vehicle, also complete his sentences which I am sure annoyed him.
Most of the dealers are Sales People, with out their books on the trucks to look at they wouldn’t know the difference between a Tacoma and Tundra on the street.
Dealer MSRP: $29,398 Edmunds Invoice: $26,112 Paid Total minus Tax/Title: $26,555 (includes Doc Fee and Floor mats which were not in Edmunds Invoice price.)
Figured I paid $366 over Edmunds invoice and basically got $130 floor mats for free since they were not included in the Invoice price I got.
Low Fusz Toyota in St. Louis, just ordered mine today and got it for less than $400 over Edmunds Invoice. Stay firm and they will bend. Did all the work over email, only spent about 2hrs at the dealer total.
Congratulations! It is always nice to hear about dealerships that will work with you via e-mail, which can save a lot of time. I'm sure other owners in our Toyota Tacoma 2005+ discussion would be happy to share ownership experiences with you.

I played three dealers against each other and the lowest offer was Access Cab, V6, 4WD, AT, Off road package #2 (OG). $25654 fleet/internet price quoted.
2nd, $26,000 for the same with the Sport #2, but I don't like the "hood scoop"
Never heard of the "light package". Price seems a little steep for that option. :confuse:
And BTW, you can save 40 to 55% on accessories by buying them from the parts departement after the sale. Many salesmen will give you a deal on accessories after the sale. The dealer let me order any accessories I wanted for 10% over dealer cost. I paid $196 for the bed divider, $56 for the bed mat, $9 for the bed net, $20 for extra bed tie downs, $19 for double cab door sill protectors, and I could have got the chrome tube steps for $325 if I wanted them.
Just found out that with a Costco Membership you get 2% above invoice. Dont even have to haggle. Ends up being a pretty sweet deal. I just ordered a 4x4 Dbl Cab Automatic with offroad package (OG), JBL Audio with 6 Disc (EJ), Mats and sill protectors (Z1), and the auto dimming miror (N1). MSRP at the dealer I am working with was 30,2XX. I ended up getting it for 26,690 (No tax as I live in NH). Ends up being 520 over invoice. I have been looking around wuite a bit and given the demand a lot of the dealers refuse to deal too much. I was only getting to about 1K over invoice (still not too bad). I highly recommend taking advantage of the Costco Membership.
Yeah, don't mention anything until after the sale about wanting some accessories. Then just tell him that you saw where dealers are giving discounts on accessories from the parts department. 10% over dealer cost. You don't have to pay any S&H and the parts will usually arrive at the dealer the next day. You can also talk to the service manager if you have to.
For the bed extender, I think you can get about $100 off of the list price.
My dealer dosen't advertise it, but the parts desk didn't even blink when I asked them to match online prices. I would have had to pay shipping on the online parts, so I came out even farther ahead!
Google the parts, there are plenty of low price dealers of genuine parts out there. I bought a bet mat, sill protectors, running boards, and extra tie downs for waaay less than MSRP.
best price for Pre-runner Access Cab short bed Off-Road Package #1 In-Dash 6-Disc CD Changer Bed mat Floor Mats Door Sill Protectors and the selant package for 720 (unsure of the specific package) 26,000 walk-out
However the salesman was VERY rude when i did not purchase right then and there. It was 1000 over invoice at min. so i decided to wait for incentives or towards the end of the yr/month.
I went to this same dealership a few months earlier to look at the x-runner. I asked the salesman NOT to call me and I made it very clear. Needless to say he called. I wasnt a happy camper.
Update: Thanks for all the replies. I finally put down $500 deposit at a different dealer which beat the previous price, the OTD price is $25,000.00! I was surprised! The only "problem" I have is they do not know when the truck gets there. Most dealers told me 4-8 wks more or less, but this particular one said they were not simply sure when. Any suggestion, especially those who had to order a truck before? I'm in the SE region. Thanks
I ordered my V6 Tacoma prerun dcab w/TRD pkg #2 in late March. I just heard today from the dealer that it's being held up due to the fact that Toyota isn't making the Tacomas with JBL systems on the assembly line right now. Has anyone else had this problem? It just seems silly that I can't receive my truck because of a stereo upgrade.

My local parts desk guy will honor any published price. A bit of Googling got me the same prices on accessories as you.

Thanks for that tip. I think that I will drop some of the accessories off and see how much the salesperson will let me have them for.
