That Wolseley Hornet is a convertible and those were done by Crayford Conversions back in the 60's. It looks old enough to be one of the Heinz Hornets, which were a group of identical Hornets converted and given away by Heinz foods as part of a competition.

I think there were 57 of them (57 varieties like the Heinz slogan) and there are a fair few that still exist. They did a similar competition to give away 57 Austin Metros in the 80s and some of those are about too.

I think the wheels are probably not original but may be part of the Crayford Heinz package...

Were you thinking folks would say Cobra? I was in the Ace camp all the way. :)

I could be wrong, but my gut tells me the Cobra mods did not involve keeping the wire knockoff wheels. Also not sure the grilles were ever kept in tact.

yes - the Wolseley Hornet and the related Riley Imp were both posh Minis with a boot.

In both cases they revived names used by their respective marques in the thirties on sporty little cars.

Small block Shelby Cobras all came with similar but wider (Dunlop?) wires with the same knock-off hubs you see on the Ace.

If you really wanna fool someone in to thinking an Ace is a Cobra, show them this one:

The red car is nearly identical to a Shelby, same windshield, same grille same wheels, it's even got a Ford motor (not aV8) just one small difference (can you spot it?) :

Anyone have a clue what make/model this could possibly be? This is a local case - the guy is vandalizing funeral homes. It's not a great video, so it might be hard to even take a guess, but figured it wouldn't hurt to check.

The badge reads Powered by Ford and indicates a small block Cobra but the red car is also powered by Ford...know what it is?

1962 small-blocks with the 260CID motor lacked the fender side vents that the later 289CID
    cars had:

This is a late 289 Cobra ('63/64) with the improved rack and pinion steering and Halibrand racing wheels (the original "mags" since they really used a magnesium/steel alloy). I'm not sure if they're factory options or aftermarket. I suspect the latter.

Since I'm a lot older than 8 my memory isn't as good as a kid's but you're correct smartass, :D
the Ford has the much copied "Hofmeister Kink", which a long with the crease on the upper side is a lift from BMW styling which brings up another comparison>

I never noticed the crease before, now I can't unsee it, although it probably isn't alone in the line going through door handles. I know the new E has a crease going through the handles too, but it is more subtle.

The Sonata and Fusion have very similar A-pillars too, with the same DLO fail/black plastic triangle.

Speaking of Sonata, the prior oversyled model is looking kind of dated already. I think we might be hitting the zenith of styling applied with a dump truck and trowel.

    andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,392
Well, now that you've mentioned it, the crease on the Sonata doesn't go thru the door handles.

The crease thru the handles on the Fusion may be another lift from BMW styling. The Five Series introduced it in 1988 with the E34.>

Meanwhile at MB in 1988, this was a new model:

Neat pic. I think it might predate 1950, unless that was an especially car-starved area. I see nothing of the "new" 48-50 designs on the road. I suspect that pic is from just after the war.

I'll pick off some For cars park on the street, to the left of the parade, I see a 41 Ford at the 3rd car from the corner, and what looks like a 42 Olds in front of it. In front of the Olds might be a 46 Plymouth, and a 40 Chevy in front of that, and maybe a 46-47 Olds in front of it. Car parked on the street at far left is a 37 Chevy coupe, with a 40 Chevy behind it. The cars parked at right would require more study. Car at right nearest the camera looks like a 37-38-ish Mopar coupe, with a 39-40 Ford Tudor 3 cars up from it.

Headlights went into fenders circa 1936--1938. So, if the photo was taken right after WW II, it could be late 40s for sure, because new cars were hard to come by until about 1948. So I'd guess it's earlier than 1950, maybe just pre-war or just post-war.

Yes, that is a 1954 Hudson Super Wasp. IIRC '54 was the last year for real Hudsons. After that they were rebadged Nashes.

It's a Ferrari 400 Superamerica or 500 Superfast - I don't recall how to tell them apart. I think the 400 is more common, I will say it is that. Very rare and valuable model, this was top of the line. Very understated and elegant in an early 60s way.

I got this--took me a minute to study it. Very rare Ferrari--only 36 made, and if you saw 3 of them together they'd all be a little different. You're looking at maybe $4 million bucks there.

and it is......? A 400 Superamerica coupe. No idea of the year but let's throw out 1964.

I thought I would give it a go with these more ancient cars and have found one which looks post war - third car back on the left hand side next to the lamp post is an Oldsmobile and I would say 1946-8 judging by the grille.

However the two in front of it are older - I'm guessing a Ford from 1941 and a Chevrolet from 1937. And behind it a 41 Chevrolet a while coupe which looks too new to be pre-war and then I thought another Oldsmobile (next to the second lamp post) but a wartime one - that heavy double deck grille..
Behind that just a guess but that car looks like an upright Hudson ?

Yup, like most '58s the Caddys were a bit overwrought but oddly less so than most. I think the Eldo's designers did a great job of making it look like a two-door although I suspect access to the rear wasn't great.

All the restraint that went into this design went out the window in 1959 as Caddy came out with the most outrageous design of that (or any) year.

There was also an Eldo Brougham in 59, very understated for the time, showing where Caddy would be in a few years:

I think the Eldo Broughams might have been the first cars with narrow band whitewalls.
