How about a brand new Bronco?

Restorers Gateway Broncos have got the official rights from Ford to build brand-new recreations of 1966 through 1977 Ford Broncos, completely under license and out of fresh sheet metal.

Gateway Broncos started out as a Bronco restoration company, but has now secured an agreement with Ford to reproduce the classic truck, even offering five-year bumper-to-bumper warranties on the things.

The Bronco will be offered in three different trim models: the Fuelie, the Coyote Edition, and the Modern Day Warrior.

Instead of using old technology like the anemic six-cylinder many Broncos came with, these recreations will be using brand-new engines, and hopefully modern rust prevention as well.

The Fuelie will feature a 347-cubic-inch stroker V8; and the Coyote Edition and Modern Day Warrior will get the 5.0-litre V8 from the Mustang. Wilwood disc brakes are now standard all around.

Here ya go. Looks pretty well put together. I'd do away with that steering wheel, and I'd prefer they had put EFI in it. But those are relatively minor when comparing $200k to $50k.

A Mustang 5.0 in an original Bronco sounds like a great way to kill yourself.

More login follies this morning, this time on my laptop. Generally the same thing, the new Vanilla login prompt does not recognize your credentials, and when you try to log in using the Insider link at the top of the page, you get a popup window that accepts your credentials but which then just gives you a spinning circle forever. Best way I found to avoid it now is to open a new window, go to Edmunds.com, get to the site map, click on the automotive forums link, and then click the Howdy Stranger login button. Quite ridiculous.

My father bought a new 1973 Bronco V8; "loaded" with power steering and A/C. I fail to see the allure of that vehicle. Abysmal handling, slow, poor fuel economy, susceptibility to rust that would rival a '60s Fiat, and a virtually ineffective HVAC system. Yes, it was extremely good off road, but I can't say that it performed any better than my Wrangler TJ- which is a much more competent vehicle in every way.
I've driven more than a few cars from the '60s and early '70s that I really like, and would be happy to drive on a regular basis- such as my 2002 and Bavaria, as well as a couple of 1970 Mustangs and a Z/28, just to name a few, but I consider the Bronco to be a dog's breakfast, as the Brits say. I sold it for $1,000 in the early '90s- a decision I'll never regret.

A few years back I had best luck on signal strength with a UHF type loop on a powered base that boosted the strength based on the boost via a knob adjustment.

You might be right with more women in the sales office but I can't say the same for F&I.

Take for example my wife's experience with a Volvo sales woman. She promptly greeted, offered coffee and croissants and then taken for a guest drive. There was no pressure, no haggling back and forth about her trade. All of this was done in short time.

The next day when she went to pick up her S60 it was shiny and ready wrapped like a Christmas present with a huge wreath (bow) on top of it. When I sold cars at the Lexus dealership from 2000-2005, I used to get a tremendous number of male customers who would come in and buy an SC430 or LS430 or ES300 or RX300 for their wives or girlfriends and requested that it be delivered to the home on Christmas Day early in the morning with a big red or white bow on the hood. The dealership provided the big bow and drivers who would deliver the surprise Christmas gift in their driveway. I would personally deliver up to 5 cars and SUV’s early Christmas morning and 5-6 vehicles Christmas Eve.

Remember, this was back in the early 2000’s when money was loose - well before the “crash” of 2007-2008. One December during that time (2004 IIRC) I sold 48 vehicles - an average of almost 2 per day. The week of Christmas I sold 5 vehicles one day - I could barely catch my breath.

Those were the good old days. I don’t know how business is right now in the car sales game, but I doubt it is as good as it was in the early/mid 2000’s.

Just wondering, how was New Year’s Eve when it came to giving discounts? Were sales people unusually willing to take a skinny deal or was that only if they were one unit away from a year end bonus?

That website has changed since I last used it 4 or 5 years back to help a friend in Plymouth MI get over the air TV. Station's towers were all over the place and her apartment was oriented that getting straight signal from some was through many walls. Had to place the antenna near a glass patio door to get bounced signals.

Site used to give good suggestions for antennas either on the roof or under the roof.

I was looking at a site that was advising a guy whether it was a good gig working as a Lowes installer. Seems it is the bottom of the barrel, they control the installers life, and they don't pay them enough for the work done. It seems that if there is anything extra that has to be done they will have to absorb the cost, and they aren't making much to begin with. According to these guys all the big box stores want is to offer the lowest price, since they control the installer they pay as little as possible and load them with as much work as possible.

Nope. It required major rust repair by 1979, and by 1986 it was time for round two. Pouring money into it would have almost certainly nixed my 535is and M6 ownership. Probably the Club Sport as well. Not worth it, I might have come out $20k ahead. Not even remotely worth the aggravation...

The folks from whom I bought my C20 had an early Bronco. It was set up with a snow plow, which is actually quite effective on these tiny vehicles... very maneuverable! At first sight, I thought, "Ooooo!" Then, after a closer look, I thought, "Ew......!" It was more rust than metal!

Salespeople have no voice or decision making authority over the final price of a vehicle - it’s management that decides.

Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are the two best days to get a truly miraculous deal. In my experiences, often management would take a “loser” deal to make their numbers for the month and for the year. I literally gave cars away during the last week of the month on orders from the dealership principal (owner). But the buyer had to take a car or SUV on our lot to get a great deal - sometimes thousands below invoice!

Your standard auto insurance would not cover it. But there are companies that specialize in insuring vehicles for when they are on the track, but it can be expensive. I definitely would get that insurance if was going to race.

Restorers Gateway Broncos have got the official rights from Ford to build brand-new recreations of 1966 through 1977 Ford Broncos, completely under license and out of fresh sheet metal.

Gateway Broncos started out as a Bronco restoration company, but has now secured an agreement with Ford to reproduce the classic truck, even offering five-year bumper-to-bumper warranties on the things.

The Bronco will be offered in three different trim models: the Fuelie, the Coyote Edition, and the Modern Day Warrior.

Instead of using old technology like the anemic six-cylinder many Broncos came with, these recreations will be using brand-new engines, and hopefully modern rust prevention as well.

The Fuelie will feature a 347-cubic-inch stroker V8; and the Coyote Edition and Modern Day Warrior will get the 5.0-litre V8 from the Mustang. Wilwood disc brakes are now standard all around.

You can get insurance for track events, but not if competition is involved. Mustang Guy is SOL.

It isn't all that expensive; the premium to insure my 2er(with a agreed value of $36,000) was only $220 for a three day event. A three day event for my Club Sport was just $76 based on a $10,000 agreed value.
