You don't want to negotiate a payment; you want to negotiate a selling price, just as if you were buying the car.

It's doubtful that TFS will lease a car to be registered in GA, as that is an SET distributorship area.
GA is expensive, because of the tax situation. You can't change that by leasing the car in CA.

Working with a dealer here in So Cal on a deal for a 2016 XLE AWD (12k/36). The residual he quoted me comes closer to 71% and the discount off MSRP is roughly 5% (seems reasonable from what I can tell).

BUT he said the MF would be 0.0021. I told him I though the base was 0.0019... he said nope, it's 0.0021. He said something about maybe he could get it down to 0.002, but not lower than that.

So... two questions:
1) Is he just straight lying to me about the MF? If so I will not work with him. I don't mind a salesperson trying to pad the MF, but if I call him on it and he lies, I'm done.

2) Thoughts on this deal?

I show a 70% residual for this model. While the number you have is closer to 71%, it still isn't 71%, which means some number is off. Either the residual or the MSRP.

We show .00190 for the Standard MF, but there are lots of regions, and I won't call your guy a liar.

Using your numbers and rolling in the $650, I get $423/mo.+tax. So, it's a little high, but not by much.

Just ask them for the adjusted CAP cost. (and verify the MSRP and residual percentage).

I have a deal pending for a 2016 Highlander XLE. MSRP is $40,080. 12k miles and 36 months in NY. The offer is $449/month with nothing down, only first month and dmv up front. They are also taking a leased 2014 Camry off my hands that has 8 months ($1760) left on the lease. Is this a good deal or am I missing something?

.00200 is about right ... we think the standard rate is .00190, but don't know for sure.

Down payment, or up front costs? There is a difference - bank fee, dealer fee, first payment, DMV costs are all due at signing. Does the $2500 cover that, or is the $2500 in addition to those other costs?

Adjusted cap cost 35800. $435 includes $20/mo gap insurance so if I opt out of that it is $415/mo with taxes rolled in. At signing 435- first month and 1000 for fees. Otherwise no other money down.

If the MSRP is correct, then I show the residual at 68% of $27,472.

Some of those numbers don't look right.. I get $352/mo.+tax, if all other costs are paid upfront.

I have what maybe a dumb question, but I have a lease on a 2013 Highlander XLE that expires in Sept 16. Currently the KBB dealer trade in value is higher than my lease payout by about $2500. Should I expect this "equity" to play in a deal on a new lease of a 2016 Highlander. This is my first lease and am not sure how the "trade in" works.

You'll have to find a dealer that will give you more than the payoff. TFS may give a different price to a Toyota dealer than a non-Toyota dealer, which may also be different than your residual.

So, it's possible you can realize some equity, but don't expect them to willingly give it up.

So this was interesting - the quote from one dealer used a higher MSRP, but lower residual percentages. The net effect is a (slightly) higher residual value. That seems like a good thing - am I missing anything?

I guess I pay a little more in the money factor, since residual value is part of the calculation. But with lower depreciation, the net effect is to lower my lease payments.

And if I buy the car, I pay more - but that's money I saved in monthly payments, so it's my option.
