Any thoughts on this deal: 239 / month 2k down (including all fees listed below) for an '15 WRK 6sp base. After tax the monthly fee would be $288 a month. Lease terms are 42 months and 10k a year. I know 42 months is not ideal, however it seems like the implicit purchase price (25.1k) on this is pretty good. Also the breakdown on the fees seemed high at $595 acquisition & $399 document. The option to buy at the end is $16,222.5. I'm new to leasing and am a little aprehensive; but it seems like this is a good deal.

The 42/10 numbers on the WRX base 6MT are 61% and .00176.

What is the full breakdown of the $2000 due at signing? $595 acquisition fee is mandated by the bank; the $399 doc fee is high, but might be normal based on where you live.

What is the MSRP, if $25,100 is the selling price?

What state is this? $49/mo seems high for sales tax.

On the surface, it looks good, but the devil is in the details.

Thanks for that; I am in CA yes that tax seems high. After making a spreadsheet of the numbers you provided I am becoming less interested in this "deal." I thought the purchase price would look better, all I have been quoted thus far is the payment, buyout price, down payment & fees. As such I have backed into the following numbers:

    Payment Calculation
    MSRP $27,250.00
    Purchase Price $26,253.64
    Down $1,999.00
    Fees $998.00
    Cap Reduction $1,001.00
    Buyout Price $16,622.50

    Total Depreciation $8,630.14
    Monthly $205.48

    Finance fee $33.52

    Lease Base $239.00

If I use $25,255 as the net cap cost with all the other numbers, I get a pre-tax payment of $279.24/mo.

We don't recommend making a cap reduction on a lease - if the car is stolen or totaled, you lose that money.

Ask the dealer for the net capitalized cost, after the cap reduction ... the offer seems too good to be true.

Yes; it is starting to look to good to be true. It was a printed advertisement indicating the special price; they can't seem to hit it. Now we are looking at:

    Payment Calculation
    MSRP $27,250.00
    Purchase Price $25,400.
    Cap Reduction $1,150
    Buyout Price $16,622.50

    Base Monthly $268
    tax $20

    Payment $288

Still a good deal, should I expect to see the base monthly equal the advertised price? Again, new to leases so maybe the advertised price isn't on a quote anywhere.

Now it's going the other way ... with a $27,250 MSRP and a net cap cost of $24,250, I get a pre-tax payment of $230.84/mo for 42 months.

The dealer either needs to sharpen their pencil or put new batteries into their calculator.

Lease payment calculations are not difficult .. the math involved can be done by any 5th grader.

Hello, I know absolutely nothing about leasing, or any of these numbers you guys are talking about, any kind soul wanna kinda do a break down of what Lease Factor 0.0023800 and MF and all this means? I am currently in Salt Lake City trying to lease a 2015 WRX STi, and all the dealerships give me different numbers on the exact same car with the exact same lease term. I just dont wanna get jerked around, can anyone please help me out? I am trying to get a Base model STi with upgraded SPT exhaust (1000$ upgrade). Most say that will be 36k msrp, but one guy will say 368 a month, the next guy says 446 a month, I just dont know what numbers to look at to see if they are jerking me around. Thanks so much,

want either a 36 mo lease 12.5k miles a year or 10k a year mileage

There are four numbers in a lease -

MSRP - this is the bottom number on the factory window sticker
Net cap cost - negotiated selling price plus any fees or taxes added in less any rebates or down payment
Residual - percentage of the MSRP the bank thinks the car will be worth at the end of the lease
Money Factor (MF) - used to calculate the rent charge (similar to an interest rate) for the lease

For the WRX STi, the 36/12 numbers are 65% residual and .00170 MF (multiply the MF by 2400 to get a rough interest rate).

Negotiate the best selling price you can; that will ensure that you are getting the best payment. MSRP and residual are fixed values; only the selling price and the MF can vary. You want to ensure that the dealer is using the base MF and not inflating it for extra profit - that may account for the different payment quotes you are getting.

So after multiplying .00170 x 2400. You get 4.08, so this number is the interest rate? How do I find a monthly payment amount using this number?  Do most dealerships internally inflate these numbers?  most are wanting me to do a 10000 mile a year lease.

Yes, multiplying the MF by 2400 gives you an approximate interest rate.

There are many calculators available on the internet that will help you determine the monthly payment.

Dealers can mark up the MF for extra profit.

So is it typical for people to ask the salesman for MF numbers? how do you approach that situation with the dealership?  just flat out ask them? Thanks for the help!

When the present you an offer, ask them what MF they used to calculate the payment. Be polite about it.

Hello, in initial negotiations for a 2015 WRX Limited, 6-spd man, Nav+Harmon, STI Short Throw Shifter. My build shows MSRP $33,685.
Dealer's 1st shot is the following for a 10k/36mo 0 down lease in Nevada:
Sales Price = $31,999 (think there's maybe some movement here, Truecar shows $31,835 for same build)
Acquisition = $595 (is this marked up or set by Subaru?)
    Total Finance = $32,594
    Residual = 62%
    MF = .002 (marked up?)
    Base Monthly = $432.22
    Monthly Tax = $33.39 (7.725% of monthly)
    Total Monthly Payment = $465.61
Total Annual Fees = $28.25(don't know what this is?)
Total Initial Fees = $399 (same as doc fee maybe?)
Amt Due At sign = $923.68 (Not sure how they came up with this, I get 892.68 with 1stmo+annfee+initial fee).

Can someone confirm the base MF for 10k/36mo WRX Limited with 6spd (credit score is mid 700's)? Also, if you could provide the numbers for 10k/24mo that would great. Any comments on the pricing would be appreciated as well.

    Thanks

    62% and .00155 for WRX Limited, 36/10.

    72% and .00267 for 24/10.

As it stands, my numbers work out the same as the dealer quote. If I reduce the MF to the base of .00155, the payment (after tax) drops to $439.68.

Quick question for you Michaell, if you have a minute.

I am attempting to find the best way to go about leasing a 2015 wrx (m6) base. I know I will be driving more than 10000 miles a year.

My question then becomes, what are the numbers looking like for 36/10 and for 36/15? If it is far cheaper to lease at 36/10, then I will probably do that, and bite the bullet on miles, assuming I will for sure be buying the car at the end of the lease.

I still have to get a quote on the car itself from my dealership, but I am estimating the purchase price I will be looking at is around 26,000 give or take a couple hundred.

    Thanks,

    Mitch

Always cheaper to buy the miles up front.

    63% and .00180 for 36/15.

Hi, can you break down the current offer on Subaru's website for 2015 WRX base with a manual (36/12)? They offer $309/month with $2,009 down, which would amount to $13,133 total spent over the term of the lease. MSRP listed as $26,295, so let's assume after negotiating a price would drop to $$25,500. If I take the residual of 63%, I get the total cost $9,435 vs $13,133. Now I understand that in the $2,009 down there's probably $1k or so of bank fees, but to me based on the residuals listed here and MF of 0.00188, their advertised deal seems awful!?

You've pretty much summed it up. National lease deals are just ok most of the time. We don't recommend making a down payment on a lease - if the car is stolen or totaled, you lose that money.

Better to negotiate your best selling price and ensure that the base MF is used.

Found this forum page when looking for reasonable lease rates for a WRX. I'm wondering if I can get the lease info on a 2015 WRX limited, manual, with nav/HK speakers/keyless start package, all-weather floor mats, and auto-dimming mirror w/compass. I'm not sure how much of that matters for lease rates, but I'll include it all anyway. I'm looking for 36 mo. and 12k miles/yr. I'd really appreciate info for both Minnesota and Colorado, as I'm flexible on which I'm leasing in.

Also, any information on what the "best" rate I could get would also be appreciated! From my understanding of this thread, that'd be the base MF, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Even so, their 36 month rates are pretty miserable. I guess they don't have much trouble selling these cars. Thanks.

I see they released the new lease numbers for May already. WRX monthly payment went from $309 to $289 with the same amount at signing.

Can you tell me what the money factor and residual is for 36 months at 10,000 miles on a Limited manual? I factory ordered mine in March and it's about a week from arrival, I'm planning to lease for 3 years and follow up with a purchase after the lease runs out (balloon financing basically).

I calculate the MF is something like .00114?
  • srt4evahsrt4evah Member Posts: 5
BTW this is in Texas, so I know we have to pay the tax on the full MSRP. I'm considering putting a few thousand down to offset the big sales tax hit and to reduce the monthly payment.
