Usually deduct .15-.25 per mile from the best price you can negotiate on a new model.

Thanks! Using that money factor, I tried to recreate the lease special that BMW is offering now, to see if I could arrive at the same monthly payment and money down as advertised on BMW's web site (using one of the many lease calculators floating around). I figure if I can do that, then I'll be in a better position to negotiate my lease.

Here's what I pulled from the BMW web site for Feb 2016 for the 428xi Convertible:
MSRP $52,995 (this includes a dealer acquisition fee of $995)
    Cap cost reduction $3000
    Option allowance $1,250
Monthly payment $569 (excluding sales tax, title, license, registration and dealer fees)

Now, with the .00132 MF and the 60% residual, and with the inputs above, the monthly payment comes out to $613 not $569. But by reducing the MSRP by $1,500 ..... the monthly payment becomes $569. Note, for purposes of this calculation, I ignored the $1,250 allowance since the hypothetical car in the BMW advertisement did not mention any options.

So, I think that means the Feb lease special is actually a $1,500 reduction in the MSRP, along with the $1,250 option allowance. Is that correct? If so, does that mean that the first $1,500 I negotiate off of the MSRP does not come out of the dealer's pocket at all? Therefore, I should be able to negotiate an even larger reduction in MSRP since the manufacturer is funding the first $1,500? And, in addition, I should be getting a $1,250 reduction in my options. So, for example if I choose the leather option at $1,550 I should only be charged $300?

Thanks for your patience, this is the first time I'm doing a lease, so I want to make sure I understand all the moving parts before I go back to the dealer.

Generally, you should be able to get 5-7% off the sticker price before applying any incentives.

    Hi-

Are the MF's and residuals the same for 2016's 428i Gran Coupes and regular coupes? Specifically looking for MF and residuals for 2015 and 2016 428i Gran Coupes assuming 10k and 12k miles per year, 24 and 36 months (seems like 36 months are the best program right now).

Are you hearing of huge discounts and/or special incentives on 2015 models?

I loved the dialogue re. the demo car above, as I'm hoping to find a 428i demo.
    - What is the "spec B" discount?
    - I understand the $.25/mile discount but how do you calculate the depreciation? If the car has been in service for six months, for example, would you calculate the depreciation as 41% (residual over 3 years) divided by 36 months (to calculate the monthly depreciation) multiplied by six months? I sorta made that up but it makes sense to me.

Thanks for all of the help...

.00132 MF and 60% residual is correct. $1250 option allowance.

$925 is the BMWFS acquisition fee (markups not allowed).

$1900 off MSRP with a $600 doc fee doesn't look like a good deal. When you consider the $1250 customer incentive, you are basically paying sticker price.

With your numbers, I get $547/mo.+tax., which looks pretty close.

2016 coupes and GC have the same lease numbers, this month.

    .00132 MF and 59% residual for 36mo, 12K/yr.

    2015 coupe: .00132 and 56% residual. $1500 buildout allowance
    2015 GC: .00132 and 58% residual. $1000 buildout allowance

Demo lease programs aren't calculated any differently than a new car. They just have lower residuals, because of the mileage (and, hopefully a lot lower selling price to make up for it). How long they've been in service has no effect on the lease.

You can't calculate depreciation by dividing 41%, unless you are paying sticker for the vehicle. You calculate depreciation as the difference between the CAP cost and the residual (which is a fixed percentage of MSRP).

Thanks for the reply. The TMV is around 43k on edmunds with an invoice around $4k2. Do you think it is reasonable to get it down to that invoice price of 42k quoted on edmunds?

Is there another way I can find the invoice price on the particular vehicle or do I have to ask?

Can the $1250 customer incentive be used regardless of options, etc?

    Can doc fee be negotiated?

    Thank you for the help

Can you tell me if this is a good deal? Looking at a 428i GC

    Includes:
    M Sport
    Track handling
    Premium package
    Tech pack
    Driver assistance package
    HC sound system

    Retail price $55,120
    Selling Price $51,345

    36 mo/12k year

Quoted $690 per month with only first month due at signing. I live in South Carolina

.00132 MF and 59% residual. $1250 option allowance.

$634/mo, if the selling price was the CAP cost.

To get to $690/mo, you need another $1950 added in.
    $925 acq.fee
$300 SC sales tax (is it still that low?)

That leaves about $725 more... title/registration? Dealer fees?

A marked up money factor would add about $35/mo..

    Correction to above
    Acquisition fee $925
    Dealer closing fee $499
    SC title, tag etc $76
    Tax $300

    Total CAP cost $52,220

How does that look for a deal?

The $1250 is a customer incentive, regardless of options.

You can find invoice prices by using the Make/Model/Year tab at the top of the page, but MSRP minus 7% is pretty close.

I'd want 6% off MSRP, then subtract the $1250 incentive from that. It's better to ask for a lower price, than worry about negotiating the doc fee. (oh, you have a $595 doc fee? Then, I lower my offer by $595).

Re. calculating depreciation, I was asking a different question but I know you get asked "What's a money factor and how do you calculate depreciation" every day, all day. I should have been more specific: with a demo car, is there a tried and true way to calculate what the discount should be beyond $.25/mile used? I'm looking at a 2016 428i GC, MSRP of around $50k, with almost 3k miles used.

What is a "spec B" discount another user referenced?

Are the incentives like buildout allowances also eligible for demos?

One would think there'd be a much bigger discount for a 2015 model year demo. Is that what you see and are there standard or average discounts/price reductions I should target?

    Thanks!

Is the residual on the 428i coupe xdrive at 36/10k ~ 60%? My dealer showed me 57% (or maybe 58%) today and said 60 was not correct. He also showed me a line sheet that had the residuals, so I am curious where the discrepancy is here?

Yes.. add 1% to go from 12K/yr to 10k/yr.

There is no formula for valuing demo cars.

No clue what "spec B" means, either.

    36/10 = 60% for a 2016 model.

Maybe he is trying to sell you a 2015 model?

I have the paper here, 164D 428xi Cp S - however he said the residual is not 60%...Any online resources where I can check this?
The dealer can't alter the residual. At some point, this one will wake up and get it right.

    http://www.bmwusa.com/bmw/special-offers/lease/2016-428i-xDrive-Coupe

That's the BMW USA website. Click on the fine print, and you'll see the MSRP and residual amount in dollars for the same 36/10 lease. That will show you the 60%.

What is the breakdown of the $5000 due at signing? If I use .00097 as the MF (base MF less 5 MSD), then I get a payment of $582/mo before tax.

    2016 428i Gran Coupe
    MSRP: $47,495
    Offer Price: $43,000

I was offered 0.00172%, 59% for a 36/12k lease term. I live in the Bay Area SF, CA.

The dealership told me that it's not possible to get the dealership/wholesale MF of 0.00132%

Question: is it true that I can't get the lower MF or should I keep negotiating?

.00132 is the base MF ... try another dealer; it only takes one to meet your numbers.

If the selling price is the cap cost, I get $511/mo + tax. How much cap reduction is there in the $2500?

    around $365

Which would shave about $10 off the payment I calculated.

Why aren't you at the dealer signing the paperwork? :sunglasses:

Haha, yeah I already filled out the credit app and am going to put down the deposit over the phone before I go over to the dealer to finalize the paperwork on Saturday.

i hope this isn't a bait and switch since I am driving 2 hours for the car. But I have an email from the Internet Sales Manager saying $2500 drive off with 7 MSDs for a monthly payment of $440/mo plus tax for a 36/15K lease.
I never got into the specifics of the residual or mf since the numbers were so good lol

This is the first time I am considering using MSD. How much MF reduced for each MSD?

Does anyone have the lease numbers for a 435i Convertible (non-xdrive)? 36/10 unless BMW has something with less miles. Perhaps a 36/7.5???

    Hey there,

I am looking for information on leasing a 435i (non xDrive, GC or convertible).
3yr/36k. I am also going to do the 5 MSD. What would the residual and MF be for the car?
The dealer quoted me over a text: MSRP: $56315, Selling price $51460. $2225 drive off, $548 a month. (no including tax). Does this seem like a reasonable deal?
