Im looking at getting a loaded 2017 BMW x3 drive 28i AWD (probably leasing), 2018 Subaru forester 2.0XT touring AWD, or 2017 Toyota RAV4 platinum AWD. What are the residuals on these 3 cars, and how do their costs of ownerships compare over a 3 year span? Would probably be buying in PA.
    Thanks

Please post the Subaru and Toyota questions in their respective threads.

What lease term and how many miles are you looking for?
I don't know much about leasing so I am not sure about the terms, 10,000 for 3 years (I probably drive less than that though)

Anything longer is just not worth it.

    No incentive information for BMW.

    Please help.

Accounting for first payment and tax on CAP reduction and acquisition fee, I think only about $2750 of your $5000 will go to CAP reduction.

So, with an adjusted CAP of $41,140, I get a payment of $395/mo.+tax, which equals $430/mo.

    I wouldn't put $5000 upfront on a lease, though.
The true monthly cost is about $560/mo.

The 2018 model of X3 is going to hit the market in November. Is it easier to get a good deal in a couple of months than now?

It can't be any worse, once they are on the lots. Not likely to be cheap for quite awhile.

Sorry, my last post was confusing. I meant to ask if the 2017 model is going to be cheaper than now once the 2018 X3 hit the market.

Possible, but BMW has been setting the residuals on the 2017 X3 pretty high, to clear out inventory.

    Received the first quote on a 2017 X3 xDrive28i:

    MSRP $45,345.00
    Savings: - $2,450.00
    Sales Price: = $42,895.00

    Weight Fee: + $80.00
    Tag/Registration Fees (estimate): + $360.00
    Flat Add/County Fee: + $22.00
    Electronic Filing: + $29.00
    Smog Abatement Fee: + $20.00
    Documentation Fee: + $80.00

    Monthly Payment for 36 month/ 10000 miles / 0 cash down is $667

The quote is based on MF 0.00191 and RV 61%. According to kyfdx's reply to my previous post, the standard MF should be 0.00151 and RV 64%. Apparently they have marked up them. But even aside from that, the numbers in the quote still seem to be off.

Below is my calculation. Could anyone help me check if my math is correct?
    1. Residual Value: $45345 x 0.61= $27660.45
    2. Adjusted Capitalized Cost: $45345 + $80 + $360 + $22 + $29 + $20 + $80 - $2450 = $43486
    3. Depreciation: $43486 - $27660.45 = $15825.55
    4. Base payment: $15825.55 / 36 = $439.60
    5. Rent Charge: ($43486 + $27660.45) x 0.00191 = $135.89
    6. Pretax Payment: $135.89 + $439.60 = $575.49
    7. After-tax Payment (local sales tax rate: 9.25%): $575.49 x 1.0925 = $628.72

Your math is correct, but you are missing the $925 acquisition fee.
Also, the residual is 64% for 36/10. The dealer can't alter that. Just misquoted it.

As you may have surmised, this isn't a very good deal. Also, pay your non-taxable fees upfront. By rolling them in, you subject them to tax, along with the rest of the payment.

Hello, what is the RV & MF for an xDrive28i on a 24/12 and 36/12 lease?

It's really surprising to me how little one pays for the extra 12 months on these leases, by my calculations on the cars I've been looking at it's only about an extra ~$2000 (over the entire lease) to go from 24 to 36 months.

Yes, 36 months is the sweet spot for BMW leases.

    Thank you Kyfdx!
So if I pay the fees up front, my base payment at Step 3 would be:
    $43486 - $27660.45 - $80 - $360 -$22 -$29 -$20 -$80 = $15825.55 - $591 = $15234.55
    And my Step 4 becomes:
    $15234.55/36 = $423.18
    And my step 5 becomes:
    ($43486 + 27660.45 - $591) x 0.00191 = $134.76
    But I need to pay $591 + $925(acquisition fee) = $1516 first.

    Is that correct?

    Due at signing:
    $601.12 + $591 fees = $1192.12

If you get the base MF of .00151, pretax payment changes to $521.08 and total payment to $569.28

Either way, not a great deal.

    BMWX3 deal:

    .00151 and 64%

If you live in Chicago, the total lease taxes (state + city) are around 17%, which kills your payment.

Almost 7% off sticker, so that's a plus.

As is, I get $562/mo with those prices. Ask the dealer for the adjusted cap cost, and how they got there from the "balance" number.

Hey @Michaell, In Seattle looking to lease an x3 at w/ $0 Down @ 10k or 12k miles. Can you tell me what figures I should expect here? (I've got excellent credit) Also, what my target payments should be for a car such as the one in the screenshot.

    .00151 MF and 64%/63% residual
Shoot for 7% off MSRP. That's another $1200 lower than their price

If you get that, you'd be at $540/mo.+tax, with 1st payment and DMV/doc fees due at signing, for 36/10

    .00151 and 69%

With your prices, I get $546/mo before tax

What is the full breakdown of the $2200 - there might be some cap reduction included
I think I forgot a $1,000 rebate. Here is a screen shot of the dealers computer. Does this make more sense?

Do you think I can get a better reduction off MSRP? I'm interested in your opinion since you see so many of these come through here.

I don't track individual deals; I just confirm what comes my way.

For BMW, we suggest you target 7% off sticker, before applying any incentives.

Acquisition and doc fees are subject to tax, which is why we suggest you roll them into the lease payment and not pay them up front.

    msrp $45345
    sale price $38535
    $6810 off msrp
    pre-tax lease monthly payment $366 after-tax $400
drive-off payment: $2000, no downpay, basically acquisition fee + DMV
fee+ document fee+ first month payment + tax
May I ask if this is a good deal or not?

The dealer said that they have already applied a $1000 BMW lease bonus, so they cannot stack the fleet lease offer of $500 that my company qualifies for. Is this true?

I am living in Atlanta, GA. Please tell me the RV and MF for a 36M/12K lease. Since GA taxes on the whole price, does it still make sense to lease? Thanks,

Given the tax situation, I'd likely not lease in GA
Will the BMW owner's choice help the tax issue a little? What's the catch?

    Thanks,

As we understand it, Owners Choice is meant for states like GA that tax the entire selling price on a lease.

Found this at a GA BMW dealer.

I can't seem to find a definitive answer - final stages of negotiating a deal between 2 dealerships and being told 2 different things -  both want first lease payment due at signing (that's it). One says it will reduce cap and the other says it won't. I'm confused!

Paying the first payment at signing shouldn't affect the adjusted CAP cost.

Thanks, kyfdx. Why would it show it as such on the lease sheet? I guess I just worry that something is missing/hiding...?

You can add everything into the CAP, then subtract the full amount due at signing, but that's not the usual way to do it. Depending on your state, that can cause the first payment to be taxed twice.

Hi, I completed the deal last week. Thanks guys for all your help. When I was going through the lease agreement and cross checking calculation at home, I realized the money factor is used wrong.

I calculated money factor using the formula : (Rent charge /36)/(Adjusted Capitalized Cost + Residual Value)
    = 4919.15/36/(43956.34 + 31118.95) = 0.00182

    Please see the attached screenshot.

Can you please let me know if I am doing something wrong in calculation or dealer has committed some mistake.
If its dealer's fault then how can I claim my money after signing the lease agreement.

    I agree with your formula.

The dealer is allowed to mark up the MF for extra profit - unfortunately, you didn't catch it before signing. I do not believe there is a lot you can do, if you have signed the paperwork and taken delivery.
