What is the selling price?
What lease term and how many miles per year?
.00134 and 64% for 36/10.
How are you getting $17,000 off the sticker price?
I asked you for the selling price and you responded $30k.
I get $423/mo plus tax with those prices, assuming the MF was reduced to .00085.

I've been trying to work with the dealership that both my husband and I have leased from for many years, but we are becoming increasingly frustrated - I'm hoping this group can help us. I've posted the quote they gave me for a 2017 x3 x28i - they keep sending the exact same numbers - the first time saying the money factor was .00169, now they say its .00134 but the results are the same. Their calculations say we have to put down $2500 for a %561 payment, when I calculate I get a slightly higher payment, but with NO money down. I need to know what are they doing with the numbers so I can come back to them with a knowledgeable rebuttal.

Remind us what state this is? Most states don't tax the entire selling price, which is what the paperwork shows.
Next, 36 months is the best term, so ignore everything else.
Then, I don't see the acquisition fee of $925 mentioned anywhere.
If I subtract the tax amount from the "Balance" amount, and use the base MF of .00134 and 64% residual for 36/10, I get $505/mo plus tax, with $0 cap reduction.
Ask the dealer for the "adjusted cap cost", and how they get that number from the "total purchase" price.
This has gotta be an AutoNation dealer - I'm starting to recognize the form they use for lease quotes. Very misleading.
Thank you for responding - I really appreciate and need your feedback to make any sense of this!! My answers below with ** before them:
In answer to your questions: Remind us what state this is? **Maryland. The taxes are correct, I went to the MD website and figured it out so its accurate, and its due for full value of car.
Next, 36 months is the best term, so ignore everything else. **I intend to lease for 36 months.
Then, I don't see the acquisition fee of $925 mentioned anywhere. **It is incorporated into the $53,170 number from the vehicle locator sheet they sent me (no vin - won't give it to us)
If I subtract the tax amount from the "Balance" amount, and use the base MF of .00134 and 64% residual for 36/10, I get $505/mo plus tax, with $0 cap reduction. **I got the same number using your residual and MF - so I'm understanding this process a little better !! Is it possible to pay the taxes over the life of the lease - roll the $2933.95 into the lease payment?
Ask the dealer for the "adjusted cap cost", and how they get that number from the "total purchase" price. ** That is exactly what I need to ask them - thank you! I have been trying to figure out what information I need that they are not providing us...I will ask tomorrow - I have a feeling it will enlighten us - is something 'not quite right' with their numbers?
This has gotta be an AutoNation dealer - I'm starting to recognize the form they use for lease quotes. Very misleading. ** they also keep telling me that if I bring in my current lease they can determine if they can use it as a trade in to get a credit toward a part of the taxes I owe on this lease - not sure how that works??

That's right - MD is one of those states that taxes the entire selling price (boo!).
Yes, you can add the tax obligation to the cap cost and increase the monthly payment. In fact, that's our preference - if the car is stolen or totaled before the lease is up, you think the state of Maryland will refund you the taxes you paid up front when you signed the contract?
(my guess is no)
If I add back the sales tax, the payment is $590/mo. Getting the adjusted cap cost should expose the $45/mo delta to the dealer quote (about $1600 total).
"Then, I don't see the acquisition fee of $925 mentioned anywhere. **It is incorporated into the $53,170 number from the vehicle locator sheet they sent me (no vin - won't give it to us)"
$53,170 is the MSRP. The acquisition fee isn't in that number. The $925 will be in the adjusted CAP cost, though.
Is the acquisition fee the same as the destination charge? On the vehicle locator printout it shows a net total of $52,175 and a total suggested price of $53,170 - a difference of $995. I thought that was the fee referenced in one of the answers.

That's destination. Always use the total MSRP to calculate the residual. ($53,170, in this case).
The acquisition fee is a lease-specific fee that goes to the bank.
Does everything else look correct - before these pages were posted you had said "If I add back the sales tax, the payment is $590/mo. Getting the adjusted cap cost should expose the $45/mo delta to the dealer quote (about $1600 total)." Now that we have all the numbers, is this still the case?
Hi, I have booked a bmw sdrive 2017 for a lease with following numbers. MSRP: 51,645 Discount: 3,100 Rebate:2,000
Cap cost: 46,545 acquisition fee : 925 dealer(doc) fee: 598 DMV : 80 Tax : 95 Total price : 48,243
My final quote says the Final Selling price is 48,499 ( I couldn't understand the 250$ difference)if I am missing anything here.
Residual : 63% Money factor : .00114 (fleet MF, otherwise it is .00134) After 7 MSDs it : .00065
First down payment: 2000$ (includes first month payment) + 3500(7 MSDs) Monthly (now) : 460.68$ Monthly(without MSD) : 506$
This is North carolina State, Sales tax is 3% Please tell me
Are the numbers for monthly payment correct? Is this a good deal? How do i calculate the exact rates?
What does the $2000 cover? ((1000$ for fleet discount, 1000$ for Recent college graduate)) Using your numbers, as is, I get $496/mo before tax.(( you mean, you are getting more than what the dealer is offering? i am getting 460 per month, you say 496. when i calculated i am getting 449$ per month) this is what i got in edmunds calculator.please see the attachment.
Confirm the adjusted cap cost with the dealer, and make sure you understand how they arrived at that number.

I agree with the prices and payment, but I had to bump the MF to .00154 to get the $561/mo payment in the quote.
So, nothing hidden in the price, just the MF bump is costing you a bit extra each month.

I checked their numbers and from what I can tell they are charging me over 5.4% interest - please correct me if i am wrong!? Rent charge=net cap cost ($49589.14) + residual ($34028.8) x mf (.00134/3.2%) is $2675.77. The figure on their paperwork is $4635.66. Am I doing something wrong or are they overcharging the interest?

You add the cap cost and residual value together first, then multiply by the MF to get the *monthly* rent charge, which I show as $112.05/mo, or about $4034 for the lease term.
EDIT - my calculation is for the base MF of .00134, their $4635 number is for the inflated MF of .00154.

Your math is wrong
($49589 + 34028) = $83617 $83617 X .00134 = $112.05 per month $112.05 X 36 mo = $4033.80
Substitute .00154 for .00134, and the rent charge agrees with their number.
I am in North CA, bayarea. Here is the X3 lease details from dealer, it is a little bit different from what I calculate. Please take a look. Especially the MSD part, which is 4200 from dealer, but 3500 from calculator.
BTW, I dont think it is a very good deal, since there is $1500 incentives from corporate and $1000 from blackfriday lease incentive. With that been said, I expect at least 14% off MSRP instead of 11.4% off

I don't have the incentive information that you do. But, if there are indeed $2500 in incentives, you are still 6.75% off MSRP, before applying them. That seems like a good deal to me.
Your leasehackr inputs are wrong. You show the acquisition fee being paid upfront in that example, but the screenshot from the dealer has the acquisition fee added into the lease payment. (which likely accounts for most of the variance in payment)
Getting ahead of the curve ..what's the MF/Residual/Incentives for December on the 35i xDrive 36/10k. Just curious since mine is in but i haven't signed the paperwork yet if December is going to be a better deal. And btw i ordered mine on November 10 and it arrived yesterday. Quite unbelievable how quickly a car can be built and shipped across the country.

Thanks. Any additional incentives? I think right now I'm getting $1k but in October I believe there was an additional $1k for option credit.

I want to thank everyone that helped me obtain a GREAT new lease on a 2017 X3 - the knowlege I received from this website saved me well over $5,000! Long story short - I was working with a dealership that our family had leased over 5 cars from in the past and expected to get a 'good deal'. I met with the finance guy on November 29 and he would not budge from his proposed $2500 down +$560 first payment for a MSRP $53,000 X3. Frustrated, the next morning, 11/30 I called another local dealer. By 5pm they called me back and offered me a loaded 2017 X3, MSRP $56,720, NO money down, and they would make the last payment on my prior lease. All I had to pay was the first payment of $561. The two key factors to my great deal (IMO) were 1. the knowledge I gained from this discussion to know the first dealership was ripping me off; and 2. waiting until the last day of the month - perhaps the second dealership needed my sale to make their monthly numbers! I'm so glad I found this discussion - thank you!!

Hi, I am taking a x3 delivery soon. I decided to pay 7 MSDs of 500$ each. I would like to know a few things 1)If i were to turn in the car much/before my lease term, what happens to my MSDs? Do i get them back? 2)My dealer was telling me that, they would not charge me if i am little over my agreed miles for my lease term,(mine is 3yr/12000 miles) is that true/possible

Please reply soon
1) You can't really "turn in" your car early. You can trade it in, and if that's the case, the payoff of the lease will be reduced by the MSD amount. 2) That's wrong. If you are over, you'll be charged.

This is why we suggest you build your own spreadsheet.
And, my question isn't where it comes from, but what fees does it cover.
Yes, my calculated payment is higher than the dealer quote.
The math is the math - it's all about getting the same numbers the dealer is using. Often, they hide something.
Yes, it's rare for my calculations to come out higher than the dealer quote - but that sometimes means there is money down that we don't recommend.

($49589 + 34028) = $83617
$83617 X .00134 = $112.05 per month
$112.05 X 36 mo = $4033.80
Substitute .00154 for .00134, and the rent charge agrees with their number.

BTW, I dont think it is a very good deal, since there is $1500 incentives from corporate and $1000 from blackfriday lease incentive. With that been said, I expect at least 14% off MSRP instead of 11.4% off

Your leasehackr inputs are wrong. You show the acquisition fee being paid upfront in that example, but the screenshot from the dealer has the acquisition fee added into the lease payment. (which likely accounts for most of the variance in payment)
I agree... .MSDs should be 7 X $500 = $3500.
