She explained these as some kind of paint protector and etched VIN service, which I believe to be age-old markup tactics for worthless options. Are these typically negotiable?

Interesting observation - the monthly quotes I got for these 2 similarly optioned models were $1 apart. I understand the math behind it, but found it interesting nonetheless given the difference in MSRP.

Those add ons are junk - and, as they are dealer installed, they are not subject to residualization. Therefore, you pay for 100% of that $658 over the lease term.

My dealer confirmed that BMW is no longer participating in the MSD program to lower the MF. Also, my dealer is quoting a MF of .00150 and residual of 61% with $2500 incentives on all 3 series models, 36/12k. This MF is quite high. What strategies would you recommend to try to get the payments down? Thanks.

Not much you can do, other than aggressively negotiate your selling price.

BMW seems to be sticking it to their customers. Guess we'll see if it comes back to haunt them.

i recently picked up a 3 year lease on a BMW 330e. The car wasn't lease from a NJ dealership, however, I live in NAssau county, NY. They charged me 409.00 for initial registration fees for the 3 year lease. IN ny they only do registration 2 years a time a time, so they send a check back to me  for the difference. I received a check back for 31.00 instead of 136 (409/3). Any reason why this might be?  THank you.

No idea. Likely have to call the NY / NJ DMV organizations to get this sorted.

But, given the number of cross border transactions that take place, I'd think the dealers and the DMV would have this all figured out.

We don't recommend a large up front cash amount - just first payment and DMV costs.

12% off sticker is pretty strong.

I do not believe BMW discounts Single pay leases, the markup on the MF is allowed by BMWFS, also BMWFS has changed the credit tier. Question the dealer on why the bump. Also no Conquest Cash, never heard BMWFS ever doing this.

The math is right. The marked up money factor is adding $25/mo. ($664/mo. with base MF).
Texas taxes the full selling price. That adds a lot to a lease payment.

My information shows 0.9% for up to 24 months, then 1.9% for 25-60 month terms.

I had a technical question. I got a quote on a 1-Pay, but something didn't make sense to me and I was hoping you could explain.

I can tell from doing a little spreadsheeting that the implied interest included in the single pay option was based on the sum of Net Cap Cost and Residual, as expected. For a single pay, I would have expected the Net Cap Cost and Residual to be the same (i.e., the whole point for a 1-pay is to pay down the amortized amount at sale). However, in this salesman's quote, the Net Cap Cost did not reflect any component of the single payment (i.e., it just had the $3K 330e rebate), and thus was considerably higher than the Residual. So, this actually results in a higher implied interest payment than the traditional quote he gave me, which makes no sense given the pay down at sale.

The salesman admitted he didn't know the ins and outs of his system, but insists that the finance manager checked it out and was OK with it. I also called BMW Financial this morning, but they won't even talk to you unless you have an existing account.

A 2nd oddity I was hoping you could explain was why the MF on the 1-pay was higher than the comparable traditional loan (0.0021 vs 0.0017). Seems to me that the finance company has much less risk on a 1-pay.

A one-pay lease calculation is the same as any other lease calculation. You should negotiate a discount from sticker, before applying any incentives.

Yes, the MF is often (but not always) discounted.

Might be time to move on and work with another dealer.

You qualify for a fleet discount - $1500 rebate and a .00020 discount in the MF. But, you have some negative equity being rolled into the new deal. And, there is an adjustment in the residual value for the miles on the car.

I agree with the math on your screen shots - $580/mo with tax. My home grown lease calculator agrees.
