    Hello,

We are in the market for a 2017 Accord EX with Sensing. This is the quote I have, wondering if I can get it down to less than 26k OTD

    MSRP $28505

Price quotes I am getting are 23,300-24,000 before destination fees and add ons.
    Tax stays steady at $1550
OTD prices range from $26,600-$26,200 (depending on what ad ons I can get them to discount/remove)

Wondering if I can get this below $26k OTD, since 5 of these quotes in the same city are so tight. Basically asking if its realistic to get another $700 or more off where they are coming from.

I read that some here say 15% off MSRP is a good deal. Is that before destination charges? If so, I'm already under that threshold. I'm just wondering what more is realistic.

Invoice price for this model is $26,151.
Your quoted prices with $875 destination fee: $24,175 - $24,875
Amount below invoice before doc fees: $1976 - $1276

So your best offer is close to $2k below invoice before doc fees. That is a very good deal, IMO.

You are missing some information here. What are the dealer doc fees? (If you do not have that information you need to ask all dealers when asking for a quote). You mentioned dealer add-ons. For now, focus on negotiating the price of the car without any add-ons. Sometimes, dealers have pre-installed accessories that cannot be removed on a car. If that is the case and you do not want certain add-ons, you could try and negotiate. Every dealership is different.

You can certainly use some of the techniques outlined in this forum to try and get the OTD price below $26k.

However, here are some factors to consider:
    • Supply and demand in your area
    • Time of the year you are buying
    • Model/Trim of car being purchased
    • Your area's pricing
    • Type of dealer (low or high volume)
Sometimes dealers tend to have better deals at the end of the month, end of the quarter or when a new model is being released.

There are other factors that affect pricing, but I do not want you to get hanged up on 15% off MSRP price.

    Where are you located?

Post back and provide dealer doc fees and what sale price you finally negotiated.

    Good luck.

    Hi,

I'm looking for Honda Sport Model with Honda sensing in orange count/LA area and was wondering if anybody recently bought one & total OTD price? Im getting quotes right and want to get advise on which dealer is good or easy to work with. Thanks for the help.

I'm in SoCal also and I'm about to start emailing dealerships. I'm based inland so OC/LA wouldn't be preferred. But I am reading SCATHING reviews of many dealerships on Yelp, so you might want to be aware of that and have all your senses alert.

All dealerships are going to have customers complain here and there. But at least two dealerships near me have multiple comments about coming to a price via email only to show up with egregious and un-removeable add-ons or other suspicious maneuvers.

While I can't vouch for the credibility, you should check out some of the Yelp reviews for Spreen Honda in Loma Linda to get an idea of what I am reading. Absolutely shocking.

I agree - if you can, avoid Spreen - there are many much better dealers in the area. I recently leased my Sport at Hardin Honda in Anaheim - got the best deal from them out of about 20 dealers I solicited quotes from. I dealt with Melissa in the Internet Dept. Not sure you'll get a similar deal because of higher incentives for leasing versus conventional purchase but give them a try if you haven't already. Good luck!

Thanks for the response. I contacted Hardin Honda but the internet manager that responded was not so responsive to give me the total OTD quote. I got another quote for OTD price of roughly $24800 for the Sport w/sensing which is higher than what I was hoping for. Not sure if I should wait for memorial day? What do you all think about this price for Sport w/sensing (cloth interior)?

I am contacting many dealers today and the leading contender on price vs. yelp review is Weir Canyon Honda. Before contacting them I saw they had three cars that match what I want on their lot. Their negative reviews are from people who were negotiating a car that the dealer had to trade for from another one.

I got a super super super low price from Rock Honda, but am skeptical at the moment based on what I'm reading about their behavior.

    Good luck!

    Title/Registration $125

1 other dealer refused to match it.  One will match but not go lower.  Haven't heard from the other 3.

FWIW, this one is also closest to my house.  So when it comes to any free oil change, etc... this is where I would go.  My current Odyssey has been serviced here (when needed) even though it was bought an hour away.

Good deal. This is what I would do if I were you.
Tell the other 3 dealers that the first one who beats this offer by $500 gets your business that day. I guarantee you that at least one will pick up the phone and call you soon after.

What would be a good OTD price for a 2017 Accord LX Model (CVT/4-cylinger) with Sensing if we were to purchase today (Saturday, 4/29) in the DMV (DC, MD, VA) area?

What would be a great price?

I don't need it, but are there any incentives for financing through Honda?

    Murrayg,
Ive been getting quotes the past few days. Pohanka of Fredericksburg has given me the best quotes so far. I'm looking at the Accord Sport Sedan 4cyl without the sensing package. Here is the quote I got; and it's actually a great price but I need a good price on my trade.
    Msrp: 26,190.00
    Price: 19,560.00
    md tax:1209.54
    doc fee:599.99

    OTD: 21,675.54
Ive been dealing with Maureen Summerill! She's their internet manager! brian125 gave me a bunch of great advice and dealers to contact! Good luck

Help please. This is my first go around for the 2017 EX L with 15k for 36 months. That said, since I didn't really negotiate, how could I do better?? I want to lease today. Could you please share your expertise and opinions on this lease worksheet? Thanks so much in advance!

If I add the acquisition fee to the selling price, then add in the tax, I get $345/mo - pretty close to the handwritten quote of $349/mo

    Michaell,
Thank you for taking the time to reply, as well as for the info. I really appreciate it. One thing I note though, you are not saying this is a good deal as I see you do with others. :worried: Do you think I work this better for lower payments? Also, this is the first time considering upping my miles to 15k (as I tend to go over always, by a lot). In your opinion, is it better to keep with the 15k (and higher price) or deal with it at the end of the lease (which is considered wiser in your opinion)?
Again, I really am grateful for your super quick reply. I need to commit today (I had extended my lease by a year and need to return it, plus isn't this when the prices are better?
    Regards,

Always better to get the correct number of miles, up front.

The only way to make this deal better is to negotiate a lower selling price.

We don't track selling prices - but, you can read back through the last few pages of this thread to see what others have paid.

Got a quote from Irvine honda with Hybrid EXL , Msrp 33740, after dealer discount the price is $27255 plus $80 document plus 8% tax and $400 registration and Doc fee. Total 29921 OTD, is this a good price?

27K + taxes + governmental fees. I dealt with Alfredo (internet sales manager). Very good salesman!

OK, I purchased the 2017 Accord EX-L on Sunday. I am located in the Inland Empire area in Southern California. I am grateful for this forum's information so I am adding mine.

    Sales Price: $24,700
Included wheel locks and door edge film
    Sales Tax: 1920.45
    Govt/Reg Fees: 280.75
    Doc Charge $80
EVR Charge: $29 (Some pay for some elec filing)
    TOTAL OTD: $27,010.20

After down payment the rest was financed through Honda Financial at promo 0.9% rate.

Buying experience was unpleasant overall. I had some reasons to what a new car on this purchase, but my takeaway is that I recommend saving the money and buying a used car for cash. Saving the time this took me to buy plus the mental energy needed to monitor people in car sales would be worth it.

I learned that getting the graduate promotion in addition to other discounts is not easy and the two dealers I worked did not facilitate this well. The dealer we bought from flat out said not at the price they offered. Don't count on this.

Car buying can be complicated . Pre homework and dealer spread sheet is the best way to avoid problems and make your transition easier . What other discounts could you not get???

The 500 dollar college Grad rebate comes from and is paid by Honda Corp. Not the selling dealer . I would call Honda and report any dealer who said you were not entitled .

Wondering if I got an ok Sale Price for South NJ/Philly Metro Area. Talk me off the ledge:

    2017 Accord Touring

    Sale Price: 30,500

Dealer installed options: Cargo Tray, Mud Flaps, Wheel Locks (included in Price above).

I was unaware of the $1,000 Dealer Cash out there otherwise would have pressed harder on price. The days after the deal are usually darker than most.

At that price above, again in Southern NJ/Philly Metro Area, how much did I reasonably leave on the table?

This was a good deal for the area . Above deal was roughly $2309 below invoice

Minus the dealers doc fee charge and that's your below invoice price .

Dealers invoice on mud guards, cargo tray and locks are about $120

Wow Davis Honda stepping up to the plate for the sale . Definitely not one of my favorite dealers over the years: Davis Honda adds unwanted accessories to many of there lot vehicles and they lie about pricing. Years ago they were pin stripping and adding auto start to there vehicles.

Getting another $300 to 500 dollars off is a slam dunk deal in NJ... You did well considering where you bought Honda. ....... REST WELL Tonight

    Hey Edmunds members.

I just traded in my 2014 Accord Coupe LX-S w/ 8k miles for a new 2017 Accord Sports. Trade in value for my Coupe was $15,500. MSRP on New car was $24,515 (according to the windows Sticker).
So basically I gave them keys for my coupe and paid $7000 for a new 2017 Accord Sports. I did not pay for anything else.

Was this a decent deal or I paid too much for Missouri? I wish I had more time to research. Since I did not finance through Honda, I was not eligible for Military Discount.

    Thank You.

Not a fan myself, but they had color I wanted, less than 5 miles and no pinstripes...So I was game.  Happy to hear your reassuring words...I don't like leaving too much cash on table, but can live with a few hundred.  Any recommendations for a dealer out my way?  Will be buying another Honda before summer is over.

Thanks again for all you do here...A great service to the community.

Was this a decent deal or I paid too much for Missouri? I wish I had more time to research. Since I did not finance through Honda, I was not eligible for Military Discount.

    Thank You.

Based on your MSRP, it looks like you purchased a sports with manual transmission (Correct me if I am wrong). However, you forgot to include the $875 destination fee in the MSRP.

Adjusted MSRP (with $875 destination fee): $25,390
    Invoice price with destination: $23,310
Amount paid below invoice: (Invoice price - sale price)

Before we can tell whether it was a good deal or not, we will need some information from you.
    • Negotiated sale price of new car
    • Dealer doc fees
    • Dealer add-ons (if any)
I am guessing the $7000 included the price difference (sale price - trade-in) + dealer doc fees + registration fees and tax.

You do not always have to finance through Honda to get a good deal. You just have to negotiate the sale price of the car.

If I may ask, any reason why you did not take the time to research pricing and use some of the techniques in this forum? Were you in a time crunch for a new car? Just curious.

You should enjoy the car and be happy with your deal.

Well said.  I get lost in the wake of the deal sometimes and would do well to enjoy the prize rather than lament.  Thank you for your participation here...Useful real world advice.

    Congrats on your purchase!

I just bought a 2017 Accord Touring Sedan too..
Got a VERY similar deal here in NC over the weekend ..
I pressed hard for 2 days to get more off and hit a wall.

But like you said... Enjoy the prize! I got the color I wanted and this car was brand spankin' new with just a few miles on the odometer. Plus I got the .9% which is almost like free financing (making the wife happy)..

Really cool car... It's a lotta car for $30K!

    Hello Bluemkn,

Yes you are correct it has a manual transmission and $875 was the destination fee which was included in sale price of 25,390.

Dealer was asking for $9000 + my 2014 Accord LS-X Coupe (Manual). I negotiated sale prices down to $7000 from $9000.

In Title and License Application they listed new car price of $22,298.50 with Trade in Value of $15,500. Dealer documentation (processing fee) was $199.

Interesting you asked me about Add-on, there is no mention of extra dealer Add-on but there seems to be some sort of Protection Package installed on the vehicle. There are Splash Guards, Door Edge Guards and Door Sills already installed. I am not sure if they are standard with Sports Model.

Because of new born we had to get into sedan asap. But I was already extremely happy with our 2014 Accord Coupe manual and now with sedan we have lot more room in the back. I hope this helps.

Since you already bought the car, the only advice I can give you going forward is to give yourself enough time to do some research, understand some of the terminology (MSRP, Invoice, dealer cash, etc...) and compare pricing among several dealers.

Looking at your numbers, your sale price is below the invoice price of the car so that is good. However, since the price of the accessories (protection package, splash guards, door edge guards) were included in the sale price, you will never know how much you were actually changed for these add-ons. Another good thing is that your doc fees were only $199.

I've used the "Build and Price Your Car" tool here: http://automobiles.honda.com/tools/build-and-price. You can see the MSRP (suggested retail price) of options and accessories. You can always negotiate the price of these accessories if it is included on a car you want to purchase. Hence, going forward, focus on negotiating the price of your car and do not bring up your trade-in into the mix until you are happy with the selling price.

To answer your question, the sport model and most models do not come with any of these accessories from the factory. Some dealers add these to inflate the selling price of a car.

Enjoy your new Accord on congrats on your new baby.

Tax amount on the lease seems way too high, for Ohio. Should be under $1000. I'd check on that.

Thanks for the quick response. How is the sale #? Did I get a good price for buying the car at that price &0.9% APR?

Coming to lease do we usually pay 7.5%(Columbus tax rate) full tax on lease vehicles? it makes sense on paying 7.5 on sales but on lease?

Lease taxes in Ohio are on the sum of pre-tax payments + prepaid taxable items. Collected upfront, which can be rolled into the CAP cost. Should be well under $1000.

You bought the car for $2399 under invoice and with doc fee $2,149 under invoice. Based upon what I have seen in this forum, I would say received a good deal for yourself- and you have a really nice ride for a number of years. Enjoy it.

Thanks. I did quite a bit of pre homework and kept a spreadsheet. The buying experience was unpleasant with dealer behavior even after I had questioned the quotes about dealer installed equipment, dealer uplift, other fees, etc before arriving.

-Dealer #1 and I had a price for the EX-L with no-add ons at approx $24,9. They had good reviews and their sales rep was professional with me in the days prior. I asked for the grad discount on top and he said no problem with diploma or transcripts. However, my spouse's graduation is this week and both diploma and official transcripts take a month. Honda website says "Must have graduated in past two years or will graduate in next six months" So by definition they must have a method to handle a future-date graduation, right?

I supplied copies of graduation letter, graduaton tickets (with graduate name on the ticket) and other documents. Via email sales rep says they'll just ask for a $500 check and hold it, which I said would work with a 30-60 day holding time.

Upon arrival at the dealer, their position changed to "no diploma or transcripts by 5/6, then no discount." So I left.

-Dealer #2 (from where I purchased) had the original too-good-to-be-true best price but with mixed Yelp reviews. So I went in looking for the loophole in the price they had given me. I already knew of the dealer installed equipment and had factored that into the price. So finally we found that their game was that their price required financing at a rate higher than the Honda 0.9% promo. I got rather curt at this maneuver and a sales manager came to me and beat the other offers and gave me a straightforward, written, OTD price with an end to the game, so I concluded the deal. They wouldn't even proceed with discussing the graduate deal. At signing the finance guy said he'd be happy to give it to me to replace the $5k+ discount off MSRP that I already had. So that was their "no."

So my interpretation is that the Graduate discount MUST affect dealer profit somehow. Whether it comes off their finance incentive or other payment, it must come off something. If it truly comes from Honda and has zero impact on a dealer then I shouldn't have seen this attitude.

    @bruineric (and any others interested)

Like Brian stated, the grad/military rebate is a Honda Finance administered program. Personally, I would steer clear of any dealer that would balk at assisting one of their customers with this. Sounds like the dealer is lazy or uneducated on how to include it in the deal. If you still haven't received it, I recommend you contact Honda Finance for assistance and explain what you experienced.

By the way, congrats on the new vehicle!!

Bruneric, as others have suggested, going to Honda is your best recourse. With current paperwork in hand, I would not see why they would not forward you a check for $500. I would call them and ask them for it explaining it exactly the way you have described it. It would be much appreciated if you could share in this forum what transpires.

Thanks to you all. I will try to contact Honda Finance when I get my account number, it should be interesting. I don't plan on going on a social media slam session, but I'll inquire politely and push for an answer.
