Actually I don't know what it is for sure (I have my suspicions however, based on the cove in the body). Note the rather complex rear glass treatment. The rear glass is curved I think.

Stever, I'm gonna guess around a '50 Olds. IIRC that rear door ventipane look on some senior GM vehicles was a rather short lived design. Personally, wasn't my favorite Harley Earl effort.

Going through the photo albums. This is a snap from 1953, my in-laws car a few years before they had kids.
The 50s were great, they made styling changes every damn year! That's an Oldsmobile from 1953-54. As near as I can tell the under headlight and side trim makes it a '53.
Andys you generally know much more than I do about old car styling, but I though in 53/54 the senior Olds picked up the more rounded rear door ventipane style and also some front fender design work that led to the 55. But I'll admit I'm not all that up on Oldsmobile back then.
My bad. You and Berri are right; after looking at some photos I see the under headlight trim on the ** 1950 Olds** is the same as in the B&W. Perhaps my memory is faulty and styling changes were not as dramatic as I recall, particularly in the early '50s
Nice pic of that 50 Olds. After some big developments like the Rocket V8 in the prior decade, for whatever reason Olds seemed to lose attention in the 50's. A lot of people seem up on Chevy, Cadillac, or even Buick in that decade, but Olds not so much. I only shot a guess because of that rear door ventipane style that was also used on some Buick and Caddy's during that very short period, and I mostly recall it because I don't personally like it
Thanks for the help pinning down the Olds everyone. The photo was taken in Phoenix. My wife's family switched to VWs when the kids came along. A Bug was purchased when she was 3 and they kept it for 8 or 9 years - license LSL-513 (note that she can never remember the license plate on our current cars, lol). Then they got a '68ish Chevy Impala - the one they totaled in Texas (Grandma always said it was a good thing they weren't in the little car). Then a Vega for a year, then back to VWs, but the hatchbacks.
My wife disliked my SuperBeetle I had when we met; too many years in their Bug.
I couldn't find a single pic of a Jowett Jupiter w that chrome grille surround but the vents on either side of the grille are identical. OTOH headlights and trafficators are in different locations....Me confused...

Jag should be an XK120. Love those early disc wheels (not so much the white walls), because all you see nowadays is gaudy, over-chromed wires, which is very un-British.

Yup, the Chevy is an early-mid-60s Chevrolet 3100 and I think Shifty's right about the Jaguar XK-120 from the same vintage. The Colony Park is the odd one in that photo (a still from Mad Men ).
I agree w Shiftright on the disc wheels but I like the WWs just fine. They were common on sports cars until the mid-60s.
Pugeot 405 (or was it 505)? Simply styled, handsome little devil.

Dang it Shifty, it's hard enough to tell those early postwar Brits apart (they all look like prewar Brits!) but without reference to a grille, wheels or even a windshield it's impossible. My first thought was a Ford Popular but I couldn't find a picture of any w 4 doors.
I have no idea what it is. That's why I'm asking you guys! I just fine 'em and shoot 'em. I don't carry all my books around with me. But let me get out my British car book and see if I can find a match.
How about this? A Humber Hawk? Super Snipe?

LW--I think both the car and the container have been there a long long time. These wrecks are part of an art colony in Sebastopol California. Certainly some of the weirdest cars I've ever seen "in the wild". Someone had an eye for the eccentric. Don't know if you can see it or not, but the (possibly) Humber has semophores, which would definitely date it prior to about 1955 or so.

That works for me but I think the Sebastopol car is smaller than the Super Snipe in your smaller pic so perhaps the old junker is the smaller (?) Humber Hawk.

1971 or so Toyota Celica.
Two of those at last week's local Cars N Coffee.. Both of them were later models of that body style, that had the small bumpers retrofitted..

The big clue on its being a 1950 is that the horizontal bar between the bumper's verticals does not extend beyond the verticals.
