Hi! Not sure if I'm offered a good deal or not - seems high to me so I just wanted to feel it out. I feel like people are getting nicer models like the S and Dynamic for similar payments but maybe I'm nuts.

Can someone please confirm the current incentives? Is it just $2k off total regardless of how you buy? Or is it $2k for cash purchase and an additional $2k if you lease or finance? I only ask because a local dealer had prices list on their website (and on individual signs on their showroom) quoting a vehicle's MSRP, a discounted Cash Price (that was around from $5k-$6k off) and another additional discounted (another $2k off) Price if you lease or finance. The aforementioned vehicle had an MSRP of $67k. The Cash price was just under $61k and the finance/lease price was just under $59k.

Yeah the dealer said this is with tax credits and the $2000 bonus, and he ~graciously~ took an extra $1000 off the purchase price but I feel there’s more wiggle room! I’m not great at negotiating these types of things.

Money factor marked up. Double the .00132 MF base rate.
Money factor markup adds $122/mo. to the payment.

They gave you a tax credit, worth nearly $3000 (actually, that comes from Land Rover Finance)
But, they marked up the money factor that adds $4750 to the total lease cost.

Without the money factor markup, this would be a reasonable deal (for a Land Rover).
$789/mo, with just first payment due at signing. Even then, that is with only a $2000 discount from MSRP.

So..If I were going to get them to discount the purchase price more than they have and cut the money factor in half, what do you think is the best way to make that happen? I was thinking of trying for a bigger MSRP discount, then point out the money factor markup. Thoughts?

Just tell them you want the base MF of .00132, and they have a deal.

You know what the payment should be, if that is the case, so now, worry about that.

@kyfdx again, awesome thank you! If I get pushback on the MF reduction, not sure how I should handle it. Also, do you know if residual value is negotiable at all? Sometimes I see small discrepancies from dealer to dealer and wasn't sure if that's an area I could also see a tiny improvement.

No.. residuals are fixed.

It's like any other car negotiation. You may not get what you want from that dealer.

How can anyone consider paying upwards of $900/month for a $60K vehicle? I am paying $499/month for a $61K MSRP Lexus with $0 cap reduction and MSDs. I know, I know...Lexus is boring, I'm on my 8th or 9th one. Every time I start looking at other brands but no other luxury brand leases nearly as well. In general, I would never pay more than $10/1000 with no cap reduction. If you can't lease a $60K car for $600/month look elsewhere.

When did you lease your last Lexus? You may find it difficult to repeat - leasing costs are going up, all over.

Is it true that leasing a 2018 brand new velar cost more than leasing a 2019? I went to the dealer today to see a 2018 Range Rover Velar 250S MSRP $64,199 and selling price of $56,037 (that’s 12.71% off MSRP) plus another 2,000 rebate. They gave me a MF of 0.0037 which I complained cause that translate to 7.68% interest and they ended up quoting me for 740 a month with a downpayment of $10,000. Fees are only $539 to drive off the lot. They told me that leasing 19’ had better MF and Residual than the 18’. Sounds Incorrect to me. Is that true?

It's true. At some point, the manufacturer stops supporting leases of the previous model year, and that has happened for the 2018 Velar.

However, even given that, it looks like your dealer is marking up the money factor (by a lot). No doubt, they area also marking up the 2019 money factor, as that is typical for a Land Rover dealer.

If you want to compare terms, you have to keep the same mileage allowance, so it's apples to apples.
